The Biggest Reason Why Affiliate Marketers Fail… Our Expectations

I have seen a number of questions recently like, Why am I not getting much traffic (but they are only in month 2 of a website) or how to get through the training quicker.

It made me stop and think about the reasons why people are failing.

It seems to come down to the fact that we are chasing monetisation too early.

Everything I have seen in WA is honest about the fact that it will take time and effort to build an online business, so why are we trying to rush it… The reasons, we have been led to believe there is always a quicker way of earning money online – so our expectations are the problem.

My First Website Flopped – I Tried to Rush Through the Training

I’ll be honest, my first domain didn’t go the way it was supposed to have, but I did learn a lot from the experience.

It was nothing WA did, or anything in the training but I thought that rushing through the training would help me earn money quicker or doing things that weren’t in the training, thinking it would yield results.

It turns out, looking back at some of my early content, it was low quality. I was focusing on all these other things and forgetting to do the basics… like writing regular content.

I focused too much on the analytics, when i should have really been focusing on keyword research and content creation.

Following the Training Works – Wealthy Affiliate Training Rocks

I recently started the super affiliate challenge training, and I changed my tactics – I followed the training Kyle set out to the letter, I also went back over the Affiliate Bootcamp training.

I have just come to the end of Month 2, and I am starting to see results. Not in conversions, the training is quite clear that your website is only really noticed by the search engines until months 3-6. But I have noticed that by just concentrating on 2 things – writing content and following the training, my average google ranking is dropping daily, I am using the Site Comments platform to get engagement on every post. Following the Training works.

But I need to keep that in my head, as it isn't yielding sales YET!

Manage Your Expectations

Many scammy products online have led people to believe there is a quick way to earning money… So, naturally we are looking for that in any product online. But think of it as a bricks and mortar business model for a minute, most businesses will not turn a profit in its first year. So why would affiliate marketing yield monetary results in a matter of weeks?

I went into this super affiliate challenge due to it being a year-long project. I am managing to post about 3-4 posts a week. Using the Site Comments platform daily and trying to help as many people as I can each day.

That is how you turn this into a profitable business, this website isn’t yield financial results yet – but I am totally dedicated to it and I know it will get there in time. My average position in Search Console is averaging around the low 80’s, which isn’t bad for an 8-week-old website and that is dropping with every post I write.

If you believe in something (and follow the WA Training to the Letter) You will see the results, not as soon as you would ideally like but either way it will work.

I go back to when I first started with Wealthy Affiliate, I set some financial goals, but I also set some non-financial goals – which was spending more time with my family.

I have found (personally) that if I focus on that non-financial goal it is easier to stay focused than thinking about the money.

My Final Piece of Advice

If you find you are not getting the traction with your site or are every getting stuck – go back through the training and look at what you might have missed. You may have to get out of your comfort zone with some of it, but the training does work. Don’t skip ahead and remember the key to your website is high-quality content.

There is no other magic button that will earn you money.

I would love to hear about your experiences, or any pieces of advice you would have for new or struggling members in the comments below.

Thanks

John

Thanks John good advise. If I can't do it for myself there is no point in being in business. Yes the training will stretch me, but I will learn to do so much that I knew the theory for, but not the how to and put it into practice. I will also ask for help at times as it's all a learning curve for me.

the training will definitely help you, even though it might stretch you. If you ever need help just ask. Everyone was at a point where they didn't know how to do something, but that is how we learn.

I've been in WA for about two months and have learnt that there is no point rushing this training for any reason. To gain a solid knowledge for me is more important than rushing to grab some dollars and the key word should be patient, patient and patient plus working hard in following Kyle's teachings and instructions. Following these I know that with time I will surely make it.

Great mindset!

I like your thinking John, and would add my experience to this, because we seem to have come across the same types of people

The other factors to build into your brilliant post are this

People need to build a list that pays with an autoresponder and drive traffic to that list

Those tasks take time, but we are business owners and so should factor that in

We can attach an autoresponder to our blog and build out list that way or as I do, I use proven traffic sources, have done for years and then financial freedom becomes a reality

great points Dave

Thanks John

Plan your work and work your plan and become friends with Success- Good post thank you John

thanks Vicki

I really like that Vickic3,Plan your work and work your plan. Great words of wisdom!!☺

Yes, there is no magic button, but physical button which means one have to really take action on what was being taught through the training, although Kyle doesn't sound sexy with his voice, still the information given is part of the path anyone had to go through, problem is sometime our devil behind our head always say "Ya... I know what you mean, can we get to the point." and we miss the part either pushing forward too fast or skipping it.

so right, we miss the vital point by not fully engaging with the training

John,
You have very good points here and yes I feel 99% of
first websites can fail if we have the mindset of just
the money end on our minds :)
Great content is what it takes with tons of patience :)

focusing on your content will yield much better results than any other method
