Be Careful - Unwarranted Private Message
Hey guys,
Just wanted to highlight something that happened earlier and wanted to point it out, in case anyone else has received it or is going to receive it in the future.
I find that predominantly the members on here are all very like-minded and are here to support others, much like I try to.
But I received a private message this morning, stating that "they have something important to share with you, but not in a public site like this...Could you contact me directly on "given email address".
Now, if that had been a member I had known for a while, then it might be different. But this member isn't even in my network... Has only just joined WA and their profile is non existent.
It seems like people are trying to tarnish all the hard work that WA prides itself on and I didn't want anyone else to fall into the trap.
It seems ironic that I have just finished an article on my website about scams and this happens.
Be vigilant and ensure that you mark anything that is not right as spam, so the guys at WA can review it.

Same thing on my side. I felt like this person was a scam from the start. This confirm that. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Right on. I had it out with a member who used PM to give away products but then there was an upgrade. He tried to say he wasn't selling anything he was giving it away LOL
N I didn't know him from anywhere ???? back n forth and I don't think he understood that that is a marketing technique that we use with the public not on a private site like this.
I have cultivated some great relationships here which have pilled over into great relationships! It was respectable like minded networking action not trying to promote a thing.

Hi John, I got the same message yesterday and reported it to Kyle. It appeared that the person joined yesterday. If you copy the first name in that email address and search Facebook you will find their scamming ad....strange...same message is listed on Facebook too.
Yeah, I smelled a rat as soon as I saw it. They didn't do a very good job making it look real.
I saw it and then check out her profile... it was one line. straightaway it looked dodgy. but it could draw new people in and that is what worries me, it would discredit everything WA stands for.
Thank you for the warning John, I haven't had this happen as yet and I would actually ignore it unless it was someone I actually knew.

I got that message a couple of days ago and reported it as SPAM. Definitely keep on guard when something like that come across your in box.

hey Vicki, I read it earlier on my phone, I liked it...didn't get chance to comment on it. But it was a great post.
There do seem to be a few bad eggs coming through lately...
This has been reported and something will be done about it.
Quite a few members have had the same type of msg you received.

There are no real requirements for joining WA, so all we can really do when issues like that arise is to report them. Sadly there will always be scammers, no matter where you are, so we always have to be vigilant. Thanks for sharing!
it does seem like there have been a few more cases recently, but maybe we are noticing them more when your rank increases inside WA. But either way, yes we must expect some of it - but as long as everyone knows what to look for and we share it with new guys to be on the look out. No one will fall for it... hopefully
