YOUR IN THE ARMY NOW MURRAY

Well Murray ended up in basic training and the first memorable moment that occurred was when he was on a hill with his sergeant and 50 other recruits and the Sgt. decided to have a forced march but waited until late, almost dark to start them back to the camp, the Sgt. got them lost, and marched them into an area where it was a target range for 105 howitzers.

They could see the area where the howitzers were firing from because of the tracers, they would hear the loud noise of the howitzer to their left, Kaboom, Kaboom as they went off and hear the shells and see the tracers as they burned out, as they went right over their heads and exploded to their right with a bright flash and a loud noise BOOM, BOOM, just beyond them. Murray does not know just how the Sgt. got them out of that mess but he did, and all the men were never so happy to return to camp save and sound.

The next crazy occasion was when they asked for volunteers to go to Nevada for three days for nuclear testing, Murray was willing to go because it meant three days out of basic training and he had no clue what nuclear testing was about he just wanted three days out of basic training, while he was sitting on the busload of men ready to go, a Sgt. pulled him off the bus to do KP. While Murray did not get out of three days of basic training, that Sgt. probably saved his life when the men returned they told him that they all were close enough to where material from the explosion rained down on their heads.

Nowadays we all know that if anyone is close enough to a nuclear explosion that material falls on your head that you are close enough to get radiation poisoning which later in life gives you cancer. Those men had likely taken part in one of the nuclear tests being conducted between May 28 and October 7, 1957, called Operation Plumbbob. Following Project 57 and preceding Project 58/58A, it was the biggest, longest, and most provocative test series in the mainland United States.

Murray was in the 42nd anti-aircraft battalion stationed at Fort Carson Colorado in Colorado Springs, at the same time Fort Carson was hit with an epidemic of the Asiatic flu, of the 2400 men stationed there predominantly everyone got it. Murray or Tex as so many people called him there had a light case, and while he was sitting on a cot smoking a medic came up to him and asked him if he ever gave anyone a shot. Tex told him he had given shots to plenty of cattle and the medic started him giving shots of penicillin to fellow recruits, he said he gave over 500 shots by the time he was done.

This is an example of how you bring outside skills into a situation to benefit others, much like many of us in WA have done so. From our writing skills to our computer skills we share this knowledge among ourselves on this wonderful platform that WA has made available for us via questions and posts. Often our motivational skills come into play and help other members from giving up.

Murray did have one bummer of a time when he first got into basic training, that is when he had his shots. Back in those days they gave you a slew of shots, 19 to be exact, today any enlistee would shudder at the thought of that, of course, they did not notify them in advance because they would probably all runaway, just joking.

Anyway, after Murray had taken all his 19 shots a few days later they rounded him up again with five other GIs and notified them that they had lost their shot records, typical of the U.S. Army. So what occurred was that our poor Murray and those other five GIs had to go through the grueling task of retaking all 19 shots and these shots were all taken in the arm, I think we would all agree folks that were one tough task, those GIs should be called heroes just for that.

Please continue to pray for Florentino and his daughter, no one has heard anything yet, all we can do is continue to pray for the best and hope for the best and continue to pray.

As always I ask you to please critique my writing, any and all constructive criticism is welcome, thank you so much in advance for your help.

Amazing attention to detail. May I inquire if Murray is a fictional character or not?

Senior protective services put me in a group home and my roommate is Murray, he has great stories so I decided to write his autobiography. That is why I'm asking for comments at the end this is my very first book.

Murray sounds like one heck of an interesting person!

Absolutely, that is why I decided to try my hand at an autobiography.

I sure would have ran away from 19 shots, lol. It's amazing that getting all 19 again in such a short amount of time would be safe. I'm guessing though that it was safer than going to the nuclear testing site.

Love the cartoon, I got a kick out of that.😁

Willow, bless you for your insight, I absolutely agree with you, and thanks for your comment on the cartoon.

PS. Will continue to pray Florentino and their daughter. May God bless them.

Bless you and thank you.
