GROWING UP AND GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL

In 1953 Murray finally got electricity in his home, he heard his neighbors got a new television set and over to see what it was. This is the first time Murray ever saw a television set and on the screen was a horse, I guess there must have been a Western on television at that time, well Murray walked around that TV and around that TV, he could not figure out how they got that big horse squeezed inside that little box. He never asked anyone least he embarrasses himself, but it is quite a humorous story in today’s world to think about it.

While stories like this we may find a bit humorous, we can not allow embarrassment to get in our way when we are stumped with a lesson or question about our WA sites. No question is too minor or major to ask or too embarrassing.

Murray went to a school that had about a total of 200 students, he graduated from high school in May 1955. After high school he went to a gentleman in Chillicothe TX. who had three combines and was hired on, he went to work for him on May 20th near the town of Panhandle in the Panhandle of Texas, later he changed employers and went to Holy oak Colorado, stayed there 10 days then went up to Scotts Bluff Colorado, went from there to Hettinger South Dakota and worked there for 10 days, and from there he went to Stanley North Dakota, they cut lots of maize, Oats, wheat, barley and, flax, flax was a crop he was totally unfamiliar with, never being around it before in his life.

It was also dangerous grain because when they filled the granaries up with it, if a man were to slip and fall into it he would literally drown because there was no way for him to get out, being of such thick consistency, slick, and watery he could not swim in it, he would sink as if in quicksand. He worked the combine job for a year, the rest of the time he worked on his father’s farm where his dad gave him 10 acres to farm wheat or anything else she wanted to grow on his own, but a young man could not make any decent money this way.

Good jobs required that you had some time in the service, when Murray was 20 years old he decided to go down to the draft board and told them to put his name at the top of the list, that was something you could do in those days, well they did it and hello goodbye, Murray was drafted in August 1957.

Please remember to keep Florentino and his daughter in your hearts and prayers, we can only hope for the very best until we hear from him.

I would request that you critique and give me your constructive criticism on my writing. This is but a second minor part of an autobiography I am writing on Murray Bennett and your help would greatly be appreciated.

Hi there is a big jump here...

From 1936 to 1954

Did he go to school?
If so where?
Did he have activities ...
How did he grow up
Did he ha e brothers and sisters, siblings
How did his parents survive the war...?

Well you see... i am curious indeed

Hope this helps a little
🤩

I have already begun work on part 1 which explains those early years, on this platform, it is labeled part i.

I noticed there was gender mix-up in the 4th paragraph:

"He worked the combine job for a year, the rest of the time he worked on his father’s farm where his dad gave him 10 acres to farm wheat or anything else [she] wanted to grow on his own, but a young man could not make any decent money this way."

But I'm enjoying the story...
And praying for Florentino's daughter...

Yes, that was corrected long ago thank you.

Still doing well, Joe! You are quite the storyteller, my friend! 🙏🙏🙏🙏 for both you and Florentinon and his daughter!

Jeff

Jeff, thank you for your prayers, and thank you for your comments.

Joe

You're very welcome, Joe! I really believe that you are onto something with this writing! Keep at it!

Jeff

interesting life- and life is interesting- my dad had combines and worked his way from The panhandle of Texas to Circle Montania each year for about 5 years.

Making great progress.
Sami

Sami, I am so glad you are enjoying my writing, any more thought about me writing in the first person. I have been thinking about it but I really don't know how I would work it in, well that's not totally true, but I would not enjoy jumping in and out of first-person. Being a new writer I would not know how to stage it properly if you know what I mean.

Joe

I too, am just learning how to think about structure and person and all the character archs of a story- even an autobiography.
The whole idea is to get the mans story down, then you can edit.
Keep going. These are lessons we learn as we go. Remember the the 80/20 rule. Lots to learn. Keep your story going. Right now that is the 80%
Maybe we will both learn.
Sami

Thank you for sharing this story. Now, you are really pulling us in the key character. Ready for the third saga.

I really appreciate your comments they always make me feel so good about my writings. I have so much more this to publish it, it will keep you reading for a long time to come.
