Into the Unknown - The Feeling of Unfamiliar Freedom

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by millions of acres of forest land. Paved roads navigated the mountainsides and gave access to the beauty of the natural scenery. Many tourists would travel by, stopping at the well-marked pull offs. Many locals would keep to the familiar trails, cautious not to stray from the beaten path. This safety lead to their enjoyment of the same sites they grew to expect.

The paths my brothers and I would explore, were created by the animals of the forest. It can be a scary feeling for those who do not know how to read, or understand the methods of games trails, to branch off and follow them. However, after spending years among the trees and ferns, we grew to embrace this activity, and enjoyed the rush of a new adventure! We knew how to stay calm in moments of uncertainty. If a storm came, we knew where to find safety. Most importantly, we learned to be aware of our surroundings and keep our bearings; where we came from and where we were going.

Our journey with creating, establishing and growing our own businesses is much like the process of gaining our bearings in the unknown wilderness. We must learn how to navigate this new and foreign terrain. Having the proper guides to teach and lead are of the utmost importance. Yet, once we understand the landscape, we can start to run the trails ahead, to new and uncharted horizons. This type of freedom is worth start pursued, cherished and embraced.
