Words - there’s power in them!
Choose them carefully!
- Our words have power!
- Words may have different meanings.
- Think before you write.
Watch sentence structure.
- It is possible to use the correct words in the wrong context!
- If you are not sure of a word's meaning, LOOK IT UP!
- Unfortunately, English is one of the most complicated languages!
- So many words have several meanings... careful does it.
True, English is the main language of communication at WA.
- For obvious reasons.
- This puts tremendous pressure on our non-English speaking members.
- Some are afraid to blog or write for fear of getting it wrong.
- DON'T BE AFRAID! There are many ways to get it right.
- Many resources are available... use them and start writing.
I close with an anonymous quote:
"The six most important words: I admit I made a mistake.
The five most important words: You did a good job.
The four most important words: What is your opinion?
The three most important words: If you please.
The two most important words: Thank you.
The one least important word: I."
So, choose your words carefully, but choose them!

Thank you for this, Joe. I have a BA in journalism so I know the power of words which, I believe, is why it is so hard for me to put my words out there. One of the best creations, I believe, for people who want to ensure their words are correct, is Grammarly. I use that all the time and I don't have a paid account. It tells me if I am using the wrong word or the right word with the wrong context.
Three monks in a monastery allowed one only to speak only one sentence each year.
Year one the first monk says,"It is too cold in here."
Year two the second monk says "it is too hot in here."
Year three the third monk says, " We must cease this perpetual bickering."

An interesting choice of words, there, Joe. You're right, of course. I've seen, and been guilty of mistakes in what we write in our posts or our internal blogs. I guess we could blame it on the day job, but there really is no excuse, which means writing less and editing more.
