Time in a bottle?

Sorry, that was a song by Jim Croce!

  • Time is sand in an hour glass and it's running!
  • You cannot bottle time.
  • It is impossible to slow it down.
  • We all have the same amount of it every day.
  • 24 hours, each with 60 minutes and 60 seconds in each minute, 86,400 in each day.
  • Every human on the face of the earth has the same amount...no favorites!

What do you do with your time?

  • You will either manage it, or it will manage you.
  • There are many great time management programs.
  • My favorite of all time is David Allen and his "Getting things done".
  • If you want answers to time management, check him out.

I get questions all the time, "how do you find time to do what you do on WA? Well, it's not complicated. As of July 1, at age of 81 I am semi-retired from managing over 100 sales people and 5 area managers, plus my own 20 or so private accounts, which I still have.

I get up at 5 am, walk the dog, feed the cats, enjoy a cuppa and some breakfast. I answer my emails (about 50 each morning), then I get dressed and begin my day.

I use "Copper" CRM (Customer Relation Management) to manage my correspondence with my clients. I use "Google Calendar" for my time management and "Google Assistant" for my getting things done. I am not a fan of Google, but unfortunately, haven't found anything that I like better for the time being.

I use a laptop, IPhone and IPad, sit on my front porch in my office chair, my laptop on my lap with a lap desk and just listen to the birds and write away.

I refuse to let negative people bother me.

  • I mimick one of my college professors: I write on a take it or leave it basis!
  • At my age, I am past caring what people think or say.
  • Am I living in a dream world of make believe?
  • Please don't wake me up if I am!
  • So, time is what you make it. You can have as much or as little success as you want here.
  • You can take advantage of all the tools here and on the internet, or you can do it the hard way. Your choice.

My advice for you here at WA?

  • Take your time. Do EVERY Lesson, and do them twice if you need to.
  • Watch Jay's videos. Read the blogs that other members post to see how they do it.
  • Write your own blogs and posts here as you can. Don't let that be your priority.
  • Produce great quantities of content for your website as you build it.
  • Build your website slowly and keep tweaking it until it just sings!
  • Use some kind of time management tool - whatever works for you.
  • Get out of bed! Do it earlier than you have been.
  • Plan for disruptions and distractions - they will come.

My granddaddy used to say: "Put your shoulder to the wheel, your nose to the grindstone, your eye on the road, now try to work in that position"!

While you're at it, enjoy the journey.

Joe
