Do they have meaning?

  • Are you saying something, or just writing to see what comes out?
  • Will what you say have meaning?
  • Can you help someone with your post?
  • Does it answer peoples questions?

Does your blog/post mean something?

  • Are you vague in what you are trying to say?
  • Does it have a clear message?
  • While I may be interested in what you did today, how does it affect me?
  • Did you answer a question that I had?

Are you answering questions no one is asking?

  • Be clear... what is your message?
  • Grab my attention with action words.
  • Be specific... use words I understand... not everyone speaks English.

I leave you a powerful quote from Winnie the Poo:

"Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?"

Great post, Joe. I love this picture so much. Wish that was me in that field of green writing my blogs. Only, I wouldn't be wearing a suit. This is precious.

You are so right about editing, and editing, and making your voice active instead of passive. Succint sentences are the bes. People don't like to read long trails of words. The best advice someone once gave me was to read the piece out loud. If you can't get through certain passages, change them. Thank you, Joe. Have a beautiful Sunday afternoon. This weekend is a holiday for us.

You too.
Joe

Well, Joe, at this point, my posts certainly don't seem to be working. It possibly might be because I am not posting much. I certainly agree with all your reminders here, and I am studying how to write more effectively, and contemplating a new test website on electronics & technology, since my desire to conquer the computer/internet is one of my main driving forces. Just wondering if you might want to suggest how to narrow the field down so it will not be too broad. Thanks, as usual, for an excellent blog.

No worries, Earl! You will get there, my friend!

Jeff

Writing often and good are necessary, but does require research. Look at other websites in that niche and see what everyone else is doing.

Classic Joe, it can be a bit of a lolly scramble at times or how did Forest, say it, posts are like boxes of chocolates you just never know what will pop up next or how they will be received sometimes.

One thing for sure definitely helps to be speaking the same language as the folks you are reaching out to do.

Alex.

Thanks Alex.

This is so true. I wrote posts but will they help others? Is it writing something for the sake of writing something? Maybe quality is better than quantity. Some good pints here to think about.

Writing to help people is the point. I believe that's what you were saying. I'd rather write 700 words of helpful content tan to write an extra 30 words of fluff just to get to some magic number. Because those 300 words of junk will likely bore the reader, disengage them and lose them. But I'm amazed how often I go to write what I think will be a short post since I don't have much to say and don't want to ramble on juts to reach the magic word count, and I end up with 1500 words of quality, flowing content that will engage the reader. So, that's my take. I hope it's helpful.

that's so helpful - thanks
I dont always have 1000 of great stuff to say

Hi Joe

Winnie the Poo quotes - love it!

Something I have been doing more and more, with posts I write that answer specific questions, I run down the list of

- People also ask - in Google and just copy the first 5 or 6 quesitons and at the end of my post I will just list the questions and write answers.

Usually in the post I have set up the whole context which makes writing succinct on-point answers a breeze,

Now all we need is a Mighty Mouse quote

- Here I come to save the day! -

Best regards
Andy
