Hey, there aint no road here!
Then make one!"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."Ralph Waldo Emerson. (It is thought he wrote that).
I had the rare privilege of traveling in Sierra Leone, in search for a school in the jungle. We took the road until it became a path, then the Land Rover took us as far as it could go, We walked about 2 miles in the jungle and found a small school with about 40 local students, none who spoke English.
What a treat that was! None of these kids had never seen an American. What a beautiful experience to hug those kids and communicate with smiles and hand signals!
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails."
Mark Twain
There may not even be a road where there is a fork to take, so you may have to make a road.
You may be facing an impossible situation, one that you've never faced. A decision has to be made, but you don't know what to do.
Blaze a new trail! Make new footprints in the snow.

I certainly feel as a baby boomer who doesn't want a traditional "retirement"...in a small way it's creating my own path though I hadn't thought of it that way before. Thank you for the encouragement Joe.

Most of the time we take the easy road and follow in another person's footsteps. Sometimes we are required to lead.
