Keyword, Niche and Market Research
Updated

So I've completed Course 1, finally decided on a niche and have added pages, worked on keywords, some limited content and buzzing with ideas... but, have just discovered that so

As you have heard there is plenty of room for you in your niche and you own unique perspective of your niche!

There is no such thing as a niche that only one person is doing
If no one else is doing your niche then its a bad sign
The fact that other people are in your niche suggests that its profitable
If there were no others in your niche I would drop it if I were you
competition suggest profitably

No competition suggest no profitability

The more competition the better

Barry

May the best man or woman win. :-) From a simplistic point of view. There's 2 billion people out there. Even .01 % of that market would more than a nice little earner. If you feel comfortable with your niche then back yourself Jo and go for it. It's the quality that mattes. Riches will flow from that :-) My 2 cents.

No, that's not simplistic. That's getting straight to the point. "May the best person win."

One way to beat the competition is to look at their site. Often times sites will have "Popular Posts". Takes those posts, you already know it's good Niche Topics, and expand on it.

Use and build on top of their knowledge.

Here is something else about competition. It's a bit off topic, another member in the niche, but it's important when it comes to competition.

You want competition. Competition is a great thing. Why? Because it tells you people are making money in that niche.

In other word more competition the better. But then that creates a whole other sets of problems.

i don't agree if more competition the better. Yes, if you an advance user, but no, if you just a beginner. Use keyword tool here to find the low competition keyword and write the content.

Hi CraigOs,
I heard that the publishers of the "For Dummies" series of guides are very thorough when it comes to market research, so if they have a guide on a niche, you now it must be profitable.
I hope this helps,
All the best,
Brandon

Hmmm.. "For dummies" and "thorough"... isn't that a contradiction. But I do understand what you're saying. Yeah, it's probably a viable market.

Personally, I wouldn't bet my financial future, and my life, on a book. I'd much rather learn how to do my own Market Research.

It's an indicator. Another would be Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Magazines/zgbs/magazines/ref=zg_bs_unv_mag_1_602346_1

I don't know what your niche is but you can tackle your niche from a different "angle" This training deals with WA but this might give you ideas on the niche you have in mind.

Niches are like a pot luck dinner, you might get two pans of baked beans but the are seasoned differently, cooked longer etc..
Or maybe music, the notes on the page are the same but you put your little twist on them.
You will do well if you put your heart into it, your passion to teach, help and let the other person see the light will by far make you the best, trust your heart. If I can help just ask.

Phew, thanks guys! Your comments certainly make a lot of sense, I just didn't want to tread on another WA'ers toes - but I will certainly steer mine in a bit different direction and that way we could also compliment each other down the track, cheers Jo.

Everyone is unique and so is your niche . It's quite alright to indulge in a niche someone else has or similar to yours. The way you deliver your content however will differ. That's what makes your niche eloquently different. Keep your niche but deliver awesome content.

I would be very very worried if I was starting in a niche that someone has n't thought of - it would mean there is not going to be sales or commercial intent. You will make your site your own with its own stamp and brand

Hi Jo. I wouldn't let that stop me from doing the same niche. You are going to make it your own and it will have your own personal touch to it.

I have come across the same thing with my niche, but it really doesn't matter. We are going to have competition, we just need to do our best and stand out from the others. :)

This morning my brain is feeling a bit hazy and I think I may have misunderstood so just want to clarify. In Jaaxy, the QSR numbers I'm seeing, e.g. 30 - is that 30 pages or 30

Ok, after some digging around, I believe that QSR is actual websites ranked in Google for the exact keyword searched. So to clarify, in case anyone else has the same query, the QSR number is individual websites, NOT pages. Cheers, Jo

Yes, QSR is the number or web results/pages that google has indexed that contain the exact phrase, either in the URL title or content.

But on another note, it's not all about QSR, so if you find a keyword phrase with a low QSR of 40 let's say for example, it doesn't mean you can easily rank for it.

An example would be:

How to tie a tie - QSR = 233
How do you tie a tie - QSR = 129

If I search "how do you tie a tie" without quotes, the exact phrase doesn't occur until result #36 in http://goolge.ca that's half way down page number 3, the next result wasn't until #144 page 14.

This is likely because Google knows what you really want to know is "How to tie a tie" so these are the results it's going to display.

Is the actual competition that you are going to get from using that particular keyword.

Thanks guys, appreciate the super quick response, cheers! OOh, hang on - now you have told me two separate things - maybe I'm not the only one confused ;) So which is it?

The QSR is the number of competing pages in Google on that particular keyword. :)

Web results, not pages.

Hi Michelle, It was late when I replied I must have misread your comment. I thought you meant Google result pages. Sorry about that.
