What comes first, when it comes to marketing? Do the marketer find the product first or do they find prospects first? Think about it, there is something positive to be said about both sides of this coin. Marketers, affiliate marketers in particular need traffic right? So we can agree the first thing overall is traffic.

Therefore, we need to generate this traffic to our websites in the best way possible. Will have a business model, find a niche and build a website around a concept. It seems to me that the majority of affiliate marketers will look at trends, and at products that are relative to their niche.

What Comes First

First the Product

With product in hand, they join forums, write quality content, promote on social media and other streams to interact with in search of the right audience. Marketers also make use of analytical data, big data, and relative software when searching for the right audience.

Depending on where most of the traffic generated comes from in each arena, marketers will focus their efforts in that direction to implement their marketing strategy.

Then there is the affiliate marketer that research what product people are buying in a specific market. This type of marketer will find an audience based on certain criteria before choosing a product. This type of marketer will research to find where an audience problem stems from.

First the audience

Find what is best-paying products and what people need help within a specific niche. Targetting an audience in this manner involves audience use of the five level hierarchy of people actual needs according to Abraham Maslow the now deceaded psychologist. Maslow defines human needs in his five level heirarchy.

And by choosing an audience from one of Maslow's 5 levels of human needs is how marketers choose an audience and not until then do they find their niche, product, service, and marketing strategy. I can not write which is best for you. I just wanted you see both sides of this coin.

Many marketers have been told to work with passion. Furthermore, working within the confines of ones passion proves to be a good source for continued motivation. However, marketing with motivation alone will not bring the results you want. I thought finding your target audience was a trial and error process.

But with Maslow Heirarchy of human needs, a marketer can get to the root of what matters to people based on which level they fall under. Never before have people been able to communcate globably. There are millions of markets to promote from.

Conclusion

The key to promoting is finding the people that want what you offer to create more traffic to your website. Furthermore, how you choose to do this will determine your level of success. I trust yo will make a sound decision after researching both of the marketing processes I wrote about here more on your own.

Great post!

Generally I believe that both come together. What product you choose will draw your audience and what audience you choose will define your product.

Like Lee's comment, without the chicken the egg disappears. Without the egg, no more chickens.

That is true but there still a choice you have to make

Hi I guess I've chosen the audience first model in my niche, gaited horses. I'm trying to help the riders with any problems, pertaining to gait training.

I'm slowly getting a hang of what the most common problems are and am adapting my content accordingly.

These problems may be related to the breed, or the tack mainly, but also to finding the right instructor.

I think you made the right marketing choice personally I like the audience first approach

Very interesting!!! Never thought about that before!!

Tried and true

Elaine

Yes, that was my intention to give you something to think about and become solid and whichever way you choose
