Hi Wealthy Affiliate community, quick question on refining a niche -

If I had a niche web site that covered "kitchen appliances" with articles on various appliances, revie

Yes, I agree one has to keep the focus on the main task: building one site. It happens to me also now I would like to open another site, but it's better to keep concentrated on one.

I recently had the same issue with my WA site which was developing into a site which included work at home, kind of 50/50. Discussed this with Kyle and straight answer was keep going with the one site. If you start to develop a second site you will most probably dilute the effort overall, whereas if you keep to one site as I am you will have a better focus,
Hudson.

Thanks for sharing your recent experience and discussion with Kyle. It was very helpful and I appreciate the feedback. I checked out your main web site too - great topics and content. Keep up the great work!

I don`t see any reason why you should need to buy any new domains. Don`t waste your time trying to start all over with ranking a new website. You made a mistake in buying a second domain, you really don`t need it. Put all your fresh content onto the one(assuming it`s related) and work towards becoming an authority.

Thanks for the reply -

It's content that ranks, not domain names. The days of EMDs or keyword rich domains adding value or ranking regardless are over. I'd rather have a memorable brand such as http://www.boohoo.com than http://www.buycheapwomensdesignerclothesonline.com which is incredibly limiting if you want to cover say men's or children's clothing. It doesn't even have to be relevant, otherwise http://www.apple.com would sell fruit and http://www.amazon.com would sell river trips. It can even be personal, ie. http://www.craigslist.org I would strongly advise against interlinking between same owned sites, Google has long stated they consider this a "content violation" and many believe they use it as a spam metric in regards to ranking. :) Rich.

Thanks for the feedback Rich, I really appreciate it.

No probs. The only time I recommend subdomains is where you're creating language-specific versions of the same site, ie. http://us.fotolia.com or http://fr.fotolia.com If you're creating subdomains for most other reasons, you may as well just make it a siterubix site, that's exactly the same thing. :) Rich.

Okay, thanks for the follow-up Rich.

Why don't you just incorporate the kitchen appliances as a subdomain to your dish washer review site? put them all together. Beverly is right though it is the content that brings them in

Thanks for the input, I'll definitely look more into the subdomain option.

Hey---Remember that any good keyword on your niche can with the website you have make a great post and will rank for it from your keywords as your site is seen as an site that gives what the searcher is looking for.,

You dont necessarily to set up other websites. If we do the lessons the WA way and get it right , the site will at some point get ranking for many post for the keywords it is wrote about. ---I have a site that ranks 1st,2nd and 3rd in the organic returns right now. --anyways do it right the lessons --ask Kyle or Carson to look at it and make the adjustments . --you will get it there i think !!!!

All of the advice sounds good as well !!!

Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated.

you welcome --hope it helped ?

I agree with BIS, purchasing your EMD wasn´t necessary, but now you already have it so, why not use it? If you can find other good KW to the diswasher subject, there is enough material to write content about and you like it, then I would say go for it and build a seperate web about it. All depends a little bit on how far you are building your original website. But hey, at the end you probably willhave more then one site, so no money is wasted! If you need anything else, just ask. Good luck.

Great feedback, thank you.

Hi Jeff

My question would be - why are you bothering with the exact match domain at all, Develop your original site and it can have the reviews for dishwashers on it - or just concentrate on a site with dishwashers. That's my personal view - but others may think very differently.

Beverley

Hi Beverly, thanks for your reply.

My answer to your question is that the exact match domain has a high monthly search volume with little competition so I'm thinking that increased search volume of the exact match domain will help bring more traffic to the site.

I thought that might be it., Personally I still wouldn't bother because it's ultimately content that drives visitors not domain names - but lots would disagree so if you want to go for it - go for it.

Thanks Beverley, I appreciate your input!
