Forgot my Cellphone
I want to share with you an interesting true story:
Today, I had an all-day appointment in Lexington KY, about an hour and half from our Pewee Valley House. After breakfast, I jumped in the car and hit the road and by the time I got to the end of our driveway, I realized I did not have my cell phone. My first thought was to return home to get it, but I was already a little late so, I thought it would be interesting to know how difficult it would be to not be attached to it for the day, I went on to my meeting without my cell phone. It wasn’t long until I reached to my pocket for my phone to call a friend who had lost a loved one the night before, but…..NO PHONE. In about 30 minutes, I was thinking about a Christmas gift we received from a friend and wanted to thank him for the gift…..NO PHONE. As I drove down the road, the time was getting close, so I went for my phone to call and tell them I would be a few minutes late…...NO PHONE. Made the meeting on time and during the day, I tried to check my texts no less than 4 or 5 times…...NO PHONE. Shortly after 2pm, I got to thinking about the stock market and wanted to know how we were doing but, you got it…...NO PHONE.
And on my way back home, I wanted to call my wife to let her know I was on my way home and to ask if she wanted me to stop to get anything as I do every time I come home, but…..NO PHONE.
However, I made it through the day but I must say, it is a lot easier and more fulfilling to have the phone with me. It seems I am more productive when I can reach in my pocket for the phone, dictionary, computer, map and calendar all in one.
It wasn’t that long ago that we didn’t have these smart phones that we have become to rely on for everything and I remember when we wanted to make a phone call, we had to find a pay phone or borrow someone’s land line. If we wanted to look something up, we had to consult an encyclopedia. The Smart Phones have become an extension of our body and mind, we can hardly do without them.

- 85 of United States adults own a smartphone
- The average American spends 5 hours, 24 minute per day device
- The average American checks their phone every 10 minutes
- There are 6.65 billion smartphone USERS across the world (86% of the global population)
- 62.06% of website traffic comes from mobile devices

Yes, I’m on my phone all day and night.
I control my whole life from it. Medical records, software to adjust sound and video parameters for our home theater, you name it.. I even have a 64-track digital recording studio on it that I plug a guitar into.
I remember when I had an “dumb” analog cell phone. It was so bulky I could barely stuff it in my pocket,
We still have a land line phone because the more elderly family members refuse to call me on my cell phone. The land line is also a backup for our wireless alarm system.
Never go anywhere without your phone. If you break down on the road you’ll never find a pay phone.

What an interesting day you had Jim. Counting all those lost cellphone uses! I would have been the same way. Did your wife need anything for dinner that you had to go back to the store for? I truly hope you had a blessed day.

Barbara, YES in fact, I had to turn right around and go to the store, but....AFTER I GOT MY PHONE! Lol
