When signing up for an affiliate on commission factory are we considered a business or not?
Hi there,
Thanks for your question.
This depends on your individual circumstances for tax information, which it is best to refer to the ATO beforehand.
If you select that you are operating as a business, the sign-up form will prompt you to answer whether or not your business is registered with the ATO. If yes, you will then have to enter your ABN details and then asked whether your business is registered for GST (by saying yes to this, invoices will include GST).
Hope this helps answer your question!

When getting into an affiliate program are we considered a business?
When your website is affiliated with another company, it is considered a business, yes.
Essentially, as an affiliate you are a marketing business entity. Your website is your "company" so to speak.
You can register as an affiliate under your personal income tax identification; this is your identity as a sole proprietor; earnings/expenses would be reported under self-employment taxes unless you choose to incorporate and use a separate tax ID.
The products you market can be products available through an affiliated seller, say for example, Amazon or eBay; your commissions from sales generated from your website represent the profit of your business.
If you have an eCommerce store and ship products or if your website sells your own digital products, those sales also represent profit, less what you spent to produce them. The distinction is that those are direct sales rather than affiliate sales, even if you are also selling affiliated products on the same site.
Anything you spend to manage and run your website are the expenses for your business. Examples of expenses would be your Wealthy Affiliate Premium membership, which includes hosting. Domain purchases or upgrades to themes are also examples.
Hope that helps!
If it’s not a business, it’s a hobby. The best answer is in this link from IRS:
