Thanks for a great post Kaju,

I totally agree with your "selective is best" approach to using plugins like Yoast. I find the same is true when using other plugins such as Grammarly (which monitors your writing for typos, plus spelling, grammatical, and sentence structure errors).

These plugins use algorithms that sometimes conflict with common sense plus the overall 'look and flow' of the content.

While I consider them to be useful tools, I don't ever have a problem with overruling their 'suggestions' when it makes sense to do so.

Rock on,
Dave

Great insights Dave, Thank You!
I have not used Grammerly, but can see how you would monitor it in a similar way.

I say follow the rules, but in the end common sense should trump all in given situations:)

All the Best,
Kaju

One of my favorite Albert Brooks line's is " I say it here, and it comes out there." Broadcast News ;^> Excellent instruction.

Lol Ted! I love that line too!

Hi Kaju,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding yoast.

Hope you have a great week,
Donna:)

Yoast is great Donna, Although I had a "Love-Hate" relationship wit it at first, the more I use it, the more I Like It.
Try it!

Thank you for an insightful article. I am using yoast and have just begun to learn it. I agree with your approach, as that is how I like to write too.

Yoast is a great plugin, and you learn alt from it. I know I do Deelilah. Thanks!

I’ve never used Yoast. I still use All in One SEO. I think I may take a look at it:). Thank you for sharing, Kaju!
Blessings:)
Suzi

Take a good look at Yoast, Suzzi. It is much more detailed than AIOSEO. but it's a n unparalleled SEO education when you are using it!

Very helpful article over Yoast. I loved using Yoast myself, I liked when the lights turned green basically letting me know that I had a good chance of getting ranked. Yoast is a great plugin to use.

Yoast is great. no doubt I learn so much using it!
Just don't go too crazy trying to turn the "Readability" lights all Green!

Great tips, thanks Kaju
Sandy

Anytime Sandy, Yoast is an education!

Writing natural is the best way to go about it.

I've only recently been using Yoast, and I LOVE it! MUCH better than All In One SEO plugin which gives you very little insights into SEO.

Plus Yoast let's you create a Sitemap, which has allowed me to ditch the XML Sitemap plugin. One less plugin to worry about :)

As for Yoasts features, I don't set the focus keyword, nor do I pay attention to how many times my keyword is in the post or how many links because I like to keep things free flowing.

I'll only use a keyword 4 times at most within my posts/reviews.

Twice in content and once or twice in headings.

The essential part is ensuring your meta title, slug and description are on point with the keyword and in the green - not too short and not too long.

SEO really isn't that complex. As long as our content is high quality containing some interlinked content and optimized properly with a low competition keyword, Google takes care of the rest.

One thing's for sure though, I won't be returning to the AIOS plugin lol.

Thanks Neil, yeah I really Love Yoast, it is a real great SEO tool and an education in itself!

Excellent comment, I agree the essential part is ensuring your meta title, slug and description are on point with the keyword and in the green - not too short and not too long.

I do try to go further with the SEO and satisfy as many "traffic lights" as possible while still keeping the natural flow of my content. That's why I write the article freely at first.

However, I learned to not go too crazy with "Readability" Traffic Lights, since they can be at times unchangeable no matter what you do. And for me, clicking on that "Eye" doesn't show me where the error is occurring.

Staying with Yoast, overall happy with it!

No problem, man!

Yeah, I guess you can always go that one step further :)

Although Yoast isn't 100% perfect, it can give you the edge over non-Yoast users, in my opinion.

No doubt it can give you an edge, Neil:)
I'e learned many fine details about SEO simply by using it!

Hi Kaju, good article. When I first started to use Yoast it pissed me off LOL. But after spending the time required to fix the article i found my writing getting better.
So now I rely on yoast.
Thanks for the post

Murray

Yes Murray, I like Yoast for SEO. Readability is a bit more of a pain, but I've found I don't have to satisfy all the readability "traffic lights" to have a great article that ranks!.

Thankd for your comment.

Hi Kaju,
If there is something that appeals to me about Yoast, it shows you which parts of your content must be improved. Over time you will notice that your writing is improving thanks to the incredible Yoast
Claudio

Yes, I like Yoast very much Claudio; I listen to "its advice" whenever I can which is most of the time.

All I say here is there are instances where it is better to use your own judgment where you should use discretion how far you should go with it.

Yes Kaju according to you 100%

Lol! That's true for any of us:)
