Kicked to the Curb Again, You Stubborn Critter!

Just when I thought things were looking up and I was beginning to feel better and was making my way out of the woods earlier in the week…..

THUMP!!

I get Kicked to the Curb AGAIN by this stubborn critter!

Yep, Mr. Flu Bug!

It has now been a total of 17 days since I caught “whatever this is”, by Day 6 I was on Dr. recommended meds and feeling somewhat better when suddenly it turned an “about face” and once again regressed.

Believe me, I didn’t even have the energy to turn on my computer. That’s why you didn’t see me.

This is definitely not like me, I usually don’t get sick. And believe me, I don’t believe in taking antibiotics unless it’s a last resort, and wouldn’t be taking them otherwise.

Too Low a Dosage

Apparently, the first time I went to see the Dr. on Nov 30 she prescribed a dosage that was too low. Hence, it only had a temporary effect, and then it worsened again.

Four days ago, I went back to see a different Dr. and he increased the dosages three-fold while weening me off the meds slowly over a period of a 6 days. He also prescribed a different antibiotic.

Thankfully for the first time today, with the increased dosages and LOTS of bed rest (I did not go out of the house for 3 days) I am feeling much better.

Antibiotics vs. Probiotics

Your body needs to keep a balanced ecosystem to remain healthy, and much of this orignates from a healthy gut.

Imbalances to the digestive system wreak havoc on our entire body.

Antibiotics are not good, I know. The problem is in addition to killing the bad bacteria they kill off the good bacteria in your gut as well, so I knew I had to counter-balance this by also taking probiotics after a meal. That good bacteria you re-introduce through probiotics is what fights off all of that bad bacteria.

If you are only taking antibiotics, you are essentially killing off your OWN army, navy, air force, and marines!

There is an even better preventive daily supplement I’ve learned through my research which I don’t (but should be taking) that will fend off future “bugs”, and that is a prebiotic.

It’s amazing I somehow summoned up enough energy to write 7 blog posts here in that period plus some new content on my website.

Two more days on the meds to go.

I will continue not to push things too hard, but so far, so good.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Until the next post, let’s knock on wood and hope my “military” remains intact!

Cheers,

Kaju

If you don't yet, I will happily return the favor when yours is up.:)

Thanks for sharing, Kaju.

My pleasure Rog. Stay well.

Kaju

Hi Kaju,

I'm so sorry you are ill. I feel for you. I am in the middle of a bout with diverticulitis.

Taking antibiotics is not good. Are you on them? They don't usually prescribe them for the flu, if that's what you have. I am on those pills unfortunately. I had this attack 3 months ago, now again. Because they kill the good bacteria, too, your resistance has nothing to fit off anything that comes your way. I'm on the mend, thank goodness.

Hope you start to feel better. It's the pits not feeling like yourself. Keep that military fighting for you especially the army. (My grandson's coming home for Christmas from army. Can't wait to see him.)

Marion

Oh ouch Marion.... feel better soon. That's a tough, nasty thing...
Shaunna

I'm sorry to hear about your situation Marion, and that's rough, I hope you will get better soon. Thanks for your concern.

I know antibiotics are not good, but in some cases they are a necessary evil. TRUE they kill all the good bacteria in your gut (as well as the bad bacteria we need to rid ourselves of), and that is why I counteract it everyday with a Probiotic - to replenish the good protective bacteria in my body (that the antibiotic killed off).

Now I should also be taking Prebiotics, which is the food that the Probiotics thrive on. That should help even more. You should consult with your Doctor about taking Prebiotics and Probiotics, if you are on an antibiotic.

Hoping for your steady recovery, and that you feel better soon:)

Kaju

Diverticulitis is a serious issue, and can be very painful. However, a friend of mine had t and recovered completely.

Thanks, Shaunna.

I'm at the tale end (lol) of this journey. Hope it doesn't happen again.

\Marion

LOL (smarty pants).

:):)

Happy to hear you are almost out of the woods, Marion:)

Thanks,
Marion

We both need luck:)!

Hope you get better soon and take a flu shot it will help you keep from getting the flu to start with. I take one every year it does help. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Sruffey

Thanks so much Sfuffey - Welcome to the Tribe!

Flu shots ONLY help against flu strains that have existed in the past. Every year is a new strain, so a flu shot is worthless pretty much.
Mark

What you say is very true Mark:)

If "Oprah" said it on national tv, then it must be the truth.
Americans are the most un-educated gullible people on the earth. You will love some of my coming blogs as all will be going on my permanent website.

2 am here, I am out!
Mark

Last year it was only 10% effective...

I have never had the flu since I started taking the shots. Maybe it is just me but I usually get the flu one time each year have not had the flu in four years.
Sruffey

Good for you Sruffey, you have been very lucky:)

Looking forward to reading those blog posts!

Yep true, if its a different strain this season, it won't matter.

I have never had a flu shot(never will) and I have never had the flu.
Mark

Must be the Jack Daniels!!

Some good things do come from Tennessee. That may be the best. Lynchburg Lemonade as we call it.

Never knew the LL moniker!!

Do you know what they call the worst student in American Medical School?

Doctor!

Stay away from Western doctors. Most barely passed their classes. They just want to give drugs, drugs, drugs. I have a Pakistani and Indian doctor(just in case). Guarantee they made straight A's. And I have been to the doctor once in the last 48 years. My Dad went 50 years, so trying to break his record.

Get well my friend!
Mark

Yes Mark, I knew you say this, and generally I do agree. I usually don't get sick, and as you know from my blogs, I mostly focus on Eastern medicine.
That's Amazing that you are on 48 years, (and your Dad 50 years) - there must be some great genetics involved!

Thanks my friend, I will:)
Kaju

28 aunts, uncles, and 6 parents/grandparents pretty much ate a high fat- low carb diet theie whole lives. Many smoked, many drank. But they ate eggs, bacon, sausage, lard, full fat cheese, butter and milk, veggies seasoned with bacon grease. Lots of fried foods in lard(not vegetable oils or any of the polyunsaturated processed seed oils like safflower, canola, etc.... they say are healthy. They are full of omega 6's and they promote inflammation.
Their average age of death around 91 for ALL of them. The youngest of the 34 died at 88. So yes, great genes, but they pretty much ate a keto/Paleo type diet.

You see why I promote Keto.

Get well, go eat a stack of bacon.
Mark

I agree with that, there are lots of misconceptions about fat and lard, and bacon grease - but they are natural and Keto/ Paleo.

This is the way we were meant to eat.

Good, you recovered. Don't overwork again, have enough sleep because that is the only immune booster which is free.

I've been sleeping...sleeping...and sleeping Jimmy. And I'm going to get more. No overworking until after Christmas! Thanks Jimmmy:)!

🤒😷🤧 Poor Kaju!
For all the “biotics” (anti, pro, pre) to do their jobs you must stay quiet and let your internal armies fight their battles.
Once the war is over only then can you go back out and play...Mom said so!
KyleAnn

Oh, another Mother lecture, ayyy!
Well. I deserve it KA!

Better let me internal armies fight their battles, rather than run out and play too hard. Thanks I needed that!:)

Sheeze, Kaju-u! ... Rest, rest, and a lil' more Rest! ...

sure the doc's can prescribe medications and did they prescribe 'R E S T' ....

Listen -- you've been running hard all year so it's bound to catch up with you .......

.... now with the holiday season here -- take your break and give yourself enough "self-care" to rid the 'virus' (which has probably now gone bacterial as well with antibiotics) .... and not only rid the virus completely but re-gain S T R E N G T H as well and how strong are you feelin' , energy-wise that is? .... (no need to answer here-- answer to yourself) ...

... sorry but consider yourself on 'forced rest' (which is what your body has been telling you) until January 1, new year ---

and re-assess then.... 😊

... you may need a prescription for a 'sun vacation!' to really be in great shape again! ... :)

ok -- enuff -- lecturing ... lol ... not me! ...

dear, dear Kaju -- plee-eeze ! ... R E S T ... not just yo-yo up & down ... complete jammies ..... kinda like in 'quarantine' that way you won't be exposed to others (snfflin'/hackin'/coughin') to give you a second-coating! ... which you really don't need ... well, neither do those out there in the world, on the street ...

sure sounds like a re-lapse -- you don't want it to get any worse, do ya? ...

funny thing, people think that the flu (real flu) can be gotten over quickly -- well, it varies of course, however, seriously, it is a very grave contagion that weakens all the body's systems ... so it is vital that it be 'finito'd' promptly and completely ... when you start to perk up is not the time to go all 'wild' yet ... get completely rested and over it before 'acting up' again ....

Keyword is: R E T R E N C H (special for you!) 🎁

sure that sounds soo-o boo-orr-inng!

well, sorry -- it's gotta be boring for awhile ... sleep it all off! zzz-zzz-zs are good!

and a remember take plenty of fluids i.e. hot water with lemon, clear juices, hot broths, clear soups, .... all to chase the chllies away ... ☕️

keep well & rest ... lecture over ... (chuckles) ...

all the best for perfect health ... 🧡

Thank You "Mother" Keisha, I will listen to your words of divine wisdom and put myself on additional "forced rest", and promise not to go wild and" act up again" before getting more proper rest!! You are so right, I've been running pretty hard all year....

Retrenching takes on a different meaning with me, as boring as this all is, I BETTER get over this 'finito'd' promptly and completely. So for the next few (other than when I decide to blog), it's gonna be more zzzzzzzzzz-zz's, hot water and lemon, and chicken soup!

I really needed that lecture (Lol!!), Thanks for setting me straight!!

K

... good to learn you're still kickn' ... and hey what are good e-buds for anyway ... we're all here to give each other a needed boost with the right nod now and then ... and you got one today -- gratis (no relapsing, okay?) ....

... and glad that your high spirit is still sky-high like a floating balloon in the Universe 🎈

... 'don't worry, be happy! ... 🎵 ... '

keep well, go rest, doc's prescription! ..... will check in from time to time to ensure that you're still on the mend ...

cheerio ... 😊

enjoy a hot steaming bowl of soup ... 🍜 ... noodle soup ...

Thanks for keeping me on the mend K, with that piping hot bowl of chicken soup:))

Get better soon Kaju. The flu sucks. Come back stronger my friend.

It's improving now that the dosages were upped Mia. Thanks I appreciate it, I will be back 100% soon!

Had a feeling you were still fighting something because it's not like you to not be writing.
It is a fact that antibiotics kill bad and good bacteria, but in this case, it was necessary you take some. You don't want to get pneumonia!
It is hard to keep the social butterfly at home but you absolutely must allow your body to recover in its own time so that you feel better for Christmas.
Listen to your doctor and that lovely nurse and just relax.
So good to get an update from you. This platform is so much less
without you.
Sending you a big hug and wishes for a speedy recovery.
C & P

Aww, Thanks C & P, I really appreciate that, and I missed you both also on the last post I sent out. You are so right, and that's exactly what I've been doing. Even though I am feeling alot better today (and have a match tomorrow), I will take the more sensible route and skip that match. I just sent out a text and I have the coverage. The key is to get to 100% (or close ot it) by Christmas.

Sending you guys lotsa hugs back - but only e-Hugs- as I don;t want you to get sick!
