I Can Still Write: 135 Posts, 212,500+ words

With the tragic and sudden passing of Mr. Peter Lin after a whirlwind trip to Asia, it’s been a rough go lately.

Sometimes we are so lost, there is nothing we can do except to bury ourselves in our writing.

Shortly I will be leaving NYC once more and traveling north above the border to Canada, where I will be part of another funeral.

Sadly, another funeral. Except this time, not of one historic 100 year old transformational figure, but of a dear loved one.

Until then, all I can do is write.

Our One Saving Grace: Writing

If there is ANY saving grace to all of this madness, I can still say that I CAN write.

Thankfully, I can still write.

I can write to distance myself from all of life’s insanity and sorrow, and channel these inner conflicted feelings in some kind of constructive way. This has to be my outlet, my only catharsis.

Somehow I am back on track with my writing again.

After not posting anything on my website from 10/10 – 10/21, I have once again resumed my previous pace of writing a post and publishing every day on my website since 10/22.

It’s amazing that despite the non-stop craziness from the historic trip, the side trip to Tokyo, riding atop motorcades, and ceremonies upon ceremonies, save this 11 day inactive period one thing has remained consistent: my writing.

So as of this moment, I can proudly say that today I completed my 135th post, with a total word count of 212,500+ words.

All of this is only since April 28.

Nothing left to do but to keep writing. And keep breathing.

I can still write.

Don’t Think, Just Write

So when mother adversity strikes out of nowhere and slams you like a tornado in the gut

Suck it up. Take a deep breath, and don’t think too much

Just keep writing.

Don’t think, just write.

It’s all that we have left until the storm clouds pass…..

And the bright sun shines over the horizon once again.

"Don't think just write" and take your mind off things. I like that. Thanks for sharing.

If we keep it that simple, it really can work for us Maggie. Thanks so much for your sentiments:)

Kaju

Yes. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, that's what Leonardo da Vinci would say. We both know the story behind the paralysis of the analysis, so writting is our safe haven, I agree.

There is great power and comfort in writing:) Thank You.

Kaju,

Sorry for the stuff you and your loved ones are going through.

I have been thinking about all the suffering we go through. These experiences are useful later, usually helping others who are going through what we have. Empathy, give us the opportunity to connect and share our thoughts. Maybe just a shoulder to lean on.

At least you have an avenue of releasing or occupy your time.

Best wishes,
David

Having an avenue of releasing and occupy your time in the name of writing has been a Godsend, David. So I will just keep writing.

Empathy toward others is essential for establishing real connections. It's so important to have a "shoulder to lean on".

Thank You for your very helpful thoughts here:)

Writing can indeed be a relief from the things happening around us...I am one that enjoys the written word, too many these days have forgotten the magic they bring to life...

I was raised to respect and honor words, stories, and the people that use them. There was not much in the line of entertainment when I was a young lad, and having a small home library helped while away the hours...

That early age exposure to books and the world they opened lent itself later to the love of writing stories for me. That ran in the family, I had an uncle that was a published author of poetry and science fiction, of all things...

That same uncle stopped in when I was a young soldier in Frankfurt, Germany to say hi, have a couple of beers with me, smoke a joint (this was back at the end of the Vietnam War days - I was 17 and did inhale), and then he was off to Russia.

He was a traveler and that may have inspired his imagination for the science fiction stories he wrote. He actually also inspired me to seek the mastering of the written word (still have not done that hehe) beyond that library...

Coming back around to your current state, I can relate very much with your attachment to words and writing. It can provide a means to let go of things that are hard to let go of in real life...I have done the same.

The only power that I feel can overshadow the written word is the power of speech. If you work that as hard as you do writing, you can win friends and influence a lot of people, albeit to a smaller size crowd (maybe - depends - I have spoken in front of some good size crowds and via SAT across continents to many people while in the Army)...

So there is indeed solace and comfort in the act of writing, as there is in speaking to people, in that you can bare your soul, forget that which is happening around you, and keep that thin thread of sanity in a seemingly insane world...

Write on, Kaju, write on...I'm with you brother...

Cheers!
Dave : )

Thank You for sharing your thoughts, feelings, and precious life experiences Dave. They mean a lot to me. I know I am not alone.

Thank You, my brother:)

So sorry to hear of your loss of a loved one, Kaju. Diverting your attention from the immediacy of your loss is a small comfort knowing only memories now remain. I am glad writing helps with processing your loss.

Thank You so much Glen, writing provides needed solace to get through the insanity that happens in life at times. If it helps processing my loss, I will simply keep writing, and seek comfort knowing my contributions will be cumulative.

Kaju

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
I am happy that you have writing to help you get through the tough times in life.
I want to say something to you that let's you know my heart felt feelings but I can't really find the words.
Thank you for being you.
Take care.
