How Small Changes Make a Big Difference

Recently I came home from a lovely dinner and received this surprise message from Kyle:

I just noticed you made your first affiliate sale Kaju, that is freakin’ awesome. Congrats!Your first sale is just the start and I wanted to emphasize the fact that if you can make 1 sale, you can make 10 sales, you can make 100’s...you can make 1,000’s. In fact, I KNOW that you can create a full time business promoting WA and I want to help you get there.

So that's how I made my first sale. Certainly not expecting it.

Now I’ve been here over one year, and to tell you the truth I never concentrated on making sales in the WA Affiliate program. Meaning any referrals that I would sign up I would basically ignore them and do nothing.

My main focus has been in building my websites, increasing my traffic, promoting my brick and mortar businesses, e-commerce selling, and closing sales for my brick and mortar businesses. That’s where the lion’s share of my income has been coming from.

Not the WA Affiliate Program.

Lately for the past month for whatever reason I’ve seen a high stream of referrals coming in, and I was wondering how this was so. After all, I have not been proactive in any way trying to drive referrals to WA, and I haven’t been posting very much either.

So when I noticed this unusually high stream coming in, I decided THIS TIME let me do something about it.

Why I Haven’t Focused on the WA Affiliate Program…Until Now

Over the past year, I’ve been receiving steady referrals who have signed up for free memberships as many of you have. Truth be told, other than responding to new invitations and recording the minimum number of automated messages, in general I’ve been ignoring them.

I remembered quite a while ago near the beginning, I setup my Automated Messages– you know, the ones that your new referrals receive when they first sign up for a FREE membership - but at the time I only setup 3 of them.

Did you know that having “Messages” set up can impact your conversions drastically? Well, yes I DID know (in theory), but since I set them up initially haven’t been paying attention to them. Not even giving them a passing glance.

On occasion, I have asked the burning question rather curiously to some of the Super Affiliates here who I know already have achieved success converting their referrals to premium, what is their greatest contributing ACTION that is creating conversions for them – yet either most whom never responded or would not share anything concrete.

Another contributor was witnessing first-hand the multitude of members over the past year who have been “spinning their wheels” - even one ambitious former member here who had written in several posts that he had accumulated over 130 WA referrals, and continually followed Kyle’s training and worked SO HARD trying to get sales, but NOT ONE of them had converted to premium. That person is currently no longer with WA.

So you might be able understand why this aspect of WA has not been the primary focus of my business and activity. Until I noticed the slew of referrals accepting my “automated” invitation the past two weeks.

With this in mind, I had about ½ hour of free time earlier that day from working on my websites and businesses.

Shortly after making one small change that same day, here's what happened.


The One Big Difference


What do I believe caused a change for me?

I’m sure some of the members here who have become frustrated who have been working hard on their referrals but not getting conversions might want to know.

You want to know, don’t you?

Okay, I will tell you.

Here is the only thing that I did DIFFERENTLY.

Well, it was rather simple really. As I already mentioned, it only took ½ hour of my downtime today.

Here is what I did:

  • I completed the final 3 of 6 missing automated messages
  • I reviewed the previous 3 automated messages I recorded and changed some of the wording


That’s it.

That’s all I did differently and for doing something differently I was rewarded with my first sale.

In closing, here are (2) questions I would like to pose:

  • Can / will any of the great members here explain in the following comments what you feel is the SINGLE most contributing ACTION that is responsible to converting your referrals to premium?
  • What did YOU do DIFFERENTLY to make your FIRST sale?

When you're writing about Wealthy Affiliate tell them how they will benefit from the premium training instead of pushing "free, free, free".

Excellent question, Kaju! And one I've started asking the more experienced members lately as well. Especially as I also only have 1 referral who has gone Premium so far (and she's my Mom). Hehe. I have many more referrals but they are just not upgrading. I also went back a few months ago and completed my past 3 automated messages. I also try get a rapport going with referrals who take the time to fill out their profiles but I suspect I need to be saying something different in my reviews. Kyle mentioned something in this months SWAG training that really got me thinking. He adds steps in his reviews that people need to follow so they know what's expected of them once they join WA.

Thanks for stopping by Lauren. I think one of the keys is to continue experimenting with changing your wording in your 6 automated messages.

As I mentioned, I did this and Hoila!! withing 3 hours my first referral went premium (a total stranger!).

But Kyle is right, and I will expand on that. We need to try MANY permutations in our communications, blog posts, and in other social ways to motivate our referrals to go premium.
