Facebook for Non-Profits

On Friday morning, we were invited and attended a special Facebook Live event for non-profits called “Boost Your Cause” which was held in the Alexandria Science Center at Apella.

The beautiful event space where Facebook held this event had panoramic views of the East River, the Ed Koch Memorial Bridge, the Water Club, and the Kips Bay area of Manhattan.

Now as you may know, I am no big fan of Facebook, but apparently there are many non-profit organizations who raise considerable money for various causes on FB.

3 NYC Non-Profits

This conference focused on 3 New York City based successful non-profit organizations in three different niches who are using Facebook in conjunction with Facebook ads to raise major donations for their humanitarian causes.

These three (3) non-profit leaders were interviewed on stage by Facebook.

You can see here I was definitely "representin' my Tribe!

You can even see here further, I was so stoked I even made my major “magic marker statement” for WA on the Facebook Wall outside the conference room.

Hey Kyle, do I get 20% off my next annual renewal? Lol!

However, there was a Q & A where the REAL non-profit stars of the event all spoke:

Kindness.org

This is a non-profit organization that is going the extra mile to encourage people to commit random acts of kindness.

Kindness.org is only 2 years young and initially produced a You Tube video that went viral by generating 120 million+ views.

The video was of a man young man walking visiting various strangers and helping them with random acts of kindness.

Rising Tide Capital

Since 2004, Rising Tide Capital has had a vision is to build a replicable model for high-quality entrepreneurial development services on the local level to be adopted to low-income communities.

Their mission has been to assist struggling individuals and communities to build strong and successful businesses. They receive donations through Facebook ads.

The Adventure Project

This non-profit is truly amazing.

The Adventure Project creates a charity focused on businesses. They have created over 1800+new jobs for people living below the poverty line.

The Adventure Project works directly with on-the-ground partners to recruit and teach local people to become entrepreneurs.

Those people in turn learn how to sell products or services to their communities, earning commissions from every sale.

This organization has already raised $4.5 million dollars on Facebook all through $200 donations.

Facebook Tools for Raising Donations

The rest of the event was a video presentation of how to setup your Facebook Ads Manager account for non-profits, how to add and use the Facebook pixel to track donations, and how to use other valuable Facebook tools to run a non-profit funding campaign.

So yes, apparently there are still very good fund-raising opportunities for non-profits using Facebook.

This 2-hour event was certainly worth its while and quite informative.

Plus there was a very nice free breakfast buffet spread!

Cheers,

Kaju

Hi Kaju, thanks for posting this, it is really helpful to see 'behind the scenes' sometimes. I have never really been a fan of Facebook and now they are so huge the whole thing seems unwieldly and not managed nearly as well as it should be. I am glad to hear that they do 'pay it forward' and shall give them a bit more benefit of the doubt in future!

Haha! I hope Kyle spotted your post! Have a great week, Sue :)

Thanks Sue, I am not a fan of FB either and have not used it in years. (seriously). But these humanitariian causes seem genuine, so I give them some credit there:)

I however, DO NOT expect ANY credit for writing on that wall!

Worth a try! Sue :))

I agree :):)

Hi Kaju!
FB is really not my cup of tea, but we must recognize when there are good things happening and it was worth it. To help each other, even in somewhat dubious organizations like FB, is a good thing and this is done by good people. And the buffet looked very interesting!
You were right to go there, we must not close the door blindly even when we don't agree with certain actions of a person or a company, There is good things everywhere!

Have a wonderful day!!
Ingrid

Thank You for being open-minded Ingrid, we should always be. I am not a big fan of Facebook, and don't even use it anymore. But there are good things in these humanitarian efforts there:)

Kaju

Thank you for this information friend. These things are all good to know even if not using them right at the minute. I think Kaju should give you a full 50% of lol.

You mean to say, someone else was making the coffee instead of you. I hope you enjoyed someone else getting you a coffee for a change. xxxx

Oh, I definitely enjoyed someone else getting the coffee for once C...I couldn't walk tool far in my big red clown shoes!

Your image of the East River bought back memories of almost 26 years ago now. I ran along that bank early one morning as a warm down after the NYC Marathon the day before. It was so early, some of the "ladies of the night" were still operating along there.
I expect things have changed a lot since then!
Thanks for the memories,
Steve.

Things have changed big time since 1993, no more "ladies of the night there", the City has been "cleaned up" Steve!

Great info, hmm now to start a non profit organization. I did have one in mind for one of my siterubix sites as a non monetary webpage for the refugee women in our local community...thanks Kaju, you have given me more ideas.

Non-Profits for humanitarian causes will always be a good niche, Snazzy, I hope those ideas will grow into a great business for you!

Did the discussion include what advantage Facebook has over other Social Media?

Not really Jimmy, it focused only on Non-profit organizations

Raising funds to support ailing persons and emergency cases, there were plenty. Messenger is now taking the lead because of the free data even without wifi it can help advance the common causes of any group.

That's very good Jimmy, I wasn't aware of what Messenger was doing . Thanks!

I'm just being influenced by the youngsters, lol

That's a good things, many of the "youngsters" know more tech than we do!

Right.

Indeed!
