I am fighting the same battle... I have been wrestling with SiteSupport on this topic of PHP upgrade since last September, when I realized that some of my plugins would only work with PHP 7.2
At first it was marginal issue and I found a replacement plugin that worked PHP 5.6, but still I was annoyed that even if the end of life for PHP 5.6 was approaching in 3 months, nobody at site support was really working on it, the rather expected that the plugin provider should fix the issue on their side.
Later,in November, since I had a couple of plugins that I purchased to be the backbone of my dropshipping site that were stopping support to PHP 5.6, I asked again about PHP 7.2.
And I was offered to be placed on the beta platform... beginning of a nightmare.
I thought that it would take a day but they kept on telling me that they were working on it for a couple of months.
When they finally made the switch I started experiencing a lot of issues,
-I had my email down for more than a week
-webmail did not work (and stiil doesn't)
-At least once a day (but often more than once) the server goes down.
- for more than a whole week I was not able to upload images on the media library and site support didnt care much because i am on a beta platform.
-FTP wasn't working
Now after more than 3 months on the beta platform still they aren't able to tell me if/when this will be moved to production...
Francesco, Oh Man, am really Sorry to hear about your woes wit the BETA - your are DEFINITELY worse than mine! But I now feel some of your pain, my friend.
They expected that the BETA would be in working order by now, but I can tell they are still "grasping for straws" and are working the kinks out.
Let's see how this gets resolved, I am really concerned.

Hi Kaju, sorry to hear about your issues it can be so frustrating when we encounter obstacles like that.
I know that certain 3rd party plugins won't work with the hosting here inside of WA I believe if you contact site support they will make an exception to the rule.
Just loaded the Child Theme Configurator version 2.4.4 on a new site and it is going ok it works with PHP 5.6.36 or higher, I realize that you are too far down the track at the moment, so this won't be much help for you.
There seems to be some incompatibility with Word Press .org, and WA hosting, if you download the plugin into your local environment and then upload it from your download folder it should go good as gold, worked for me.
Hope that you and site support get it sorted so that you can continue with your development.
PS. I got the same message when I tried to upload the plugin from the WordPress dashboard.
Alex, I've never had a problem uploading the Child Theme Configurator before, even with PHP 5.6. This is a new problem, but all my plugins are up to date.
Carson even admitted that Child Theme Configurator no longer works with the current WA PHP 5.6 environment, so he recommended I try the BETA (PHP 7.2), which I did.
But as you can see, there are still many problems with the BETA on the new servers. I am sure WA will resolve these issues, but it is going to take some time.

Hi, Kaju I hear what you are saying, I will just stick with down, loading plugins from word press.org and then uploading, works for me. no problems. WA hosting is one of the attractions of being here. Not picking, and I have a lot of respect for you, but you could have handled this situation with a little bit of diplomacy, it is portraying WA in a very bad light, and it is very underserved.
I would be really curious to see what premium plugins are being affected with this issue, I understand if you are not comfortable sharing.
If we approach site support we can all get in on this new beta program? would be keen to check it out.
Thanks Alex, I don't believe I am portraying WA in a bad light at all, I am offering direct and honest feedback and also being helpful by apprising the community of this situation. Apparently, many people here know of this already anyway.
I still think WA s Great, fantastic platform for learning and with the 25 free domains and 25 subdomains, an incomparable value. When they get this sorted out, it will be even a better value with the up to date PHP 7.2.

Nightmare friend, that is dreadful though. Why haven't site support been updating as PHP has been updating and keeping doing it. Surely they could have avoided all this carry on.

I saw Kyle in chat the other day, they are working on it but anyone who needs the PHP 7.0 just ask SiteSupport and they will change it for you before they release it to everyone.
There are a number of WA members who have it, he said if someone needs it sooner than the main release, just ask

The problem is I DID change it over to PHP 7.2 (the BETA version) upon WA's recommendation - yet after the change there are STILL major problems with the new BETA.
Read the details in the post, you will see what I mean.
No it is ok John, mine is ok at the minute so will just leave it as it is. All working ok so not you know the saying - not broken, then don't fix it. Until everything is ok and I need to move I will stay put. Thank you very much though. xxx

I'm sorry that this happened to your website.
Did you have to re-enter the Meta Title & Description when it comes to SEO for all posts, or was it still there.
And what about the pretty links, do you have to re-create them?!

Hi Amjad, Thank You and I can't believe aI missed your comment. It's a good one.
Luckily, the site is new and virtually a clean slate. I normally enter my meta title and description through Yoast SEO, but did not get to do that on this site as of yet. And I did not have any links as of yet.
I was finally able to setup my child theme now that I was able to install the Child Theme Configurator in the BETA version they have me using.
What is most important is that I don't want these 41 warnings and errors present as I am building out my site.

You have been through a mare there. Tech can cause so much problems and you wish to go to simpler times.
This is why I will never use beta versions, cause more problems than they solve.
Think about Windows ME, the worst version of windows in history.
I am truly sorry as it is a totally unnecessary heartache. This is why backing up is so important.

Thanks Antonio, I got all the backups on my other sites. The problem is the PHP of WA is not up to date. Something WA should have. Fortunately this is a new site and a clean slate.
The old version would have been even worse than trying the BETA, on the old version I couldn't even install my reliable Child Theme Configurator. I never work on any of my websites unless I have a child theme installed.
Thanks for that, it be interesting to see what happens when they have to transform everybody to the new platform, site support will be very busy.
