Become Part of the Club

Your company culture is critical to your long-term success.

That’s what makes your employees and members want to become part of the club!

Great leaders who make themselves accessible and can communicate well drive your company culture.

They are honest and open to their staff and their employees, provide an open dialogue with regards to ideas and information exchanges, and they are great listeners.

Above all, they provide a work environment that makes their staff and employees feel safe and secure.

Such inspiring leaders drive their teams only leading by example.

After all, where would YOUR employees like to work?

A work environment with FUN, flexibility, an attitude of acceptance, and supportive supervisors make people look forward to coming to work every day.

Yet in the daily structured workplace, with boat loads of work and tight project deadlines, stress is an inevitable component of the work environment.

So take a moment and learn to figure out what things are stressing out your employees.

Brainstorm various things you can do immediately that can help alleviate the stress and implement them.

Here are some good examples:

  • Set up profit sharing for your employees
  • Say NO to micro-managing your employees
  • TED Talks, i.e., motivational weekly talks providing continual business education
  • Bi-Weekly Employee Day Outings with other employees
  • Merit Challenges i.e. Top Performer of the Month, Points for prizes, etc.
  • Team Building events i.e., Golf, Bowling Night, Pool, Movies, etc.
  • Recognition bonuses for meeting quarterly goals
  • Company Fantasy Sports. Winner wins cash.
  • Company Outings, i.e., Softball games, fishing trips
  • Company Happy Hour at the local bar 5-8pm

Can you think of some other examples that would apply here to relieve employee stress and boost overall job satisfaction in the workplace?

Get Creative. We would love to hear your ideas.

Cheers,

Kaju

Always make sure that your staff know they are appreciated and in the environment I work in, it is nice to be told when customers are praising you for making their day. Let them use their initiative and always ask staff nicely to do something as opposed to ordering them to do it.

Always make sure you communicate well, right from the Managers at the top to the staff at the bottom. Lack of communication can really affect staff moral. xxxx

The old saying is very true Cheryl, we "get more honey with sugar than we do with vinegar."

In general, treat people the way you want to be treated. Be nice and respectful to people. Communicate openly and listen to them, it will go miles toward your own job satisfaction as well as theirs.

Exactly Kaju, I don't always think that by giving staff outings and these sorts of things are going to help if there is unrest in the workplace. I think that if your staff morale is high in the workplace then everything will go like a well oiled machine. xxx

Oiled machine, true dat!!

Lol Kaju, yes it is very true. xxx

I work in State Government. We cannot get bonuses and at my level we are not eligible for overtime since we are salaried. So there are limits to the things managers can do to make us feel appreciated.

One of the things they can do is be flexible about scheduling and work hours. This is huge. For all the parents that have to deal with sick days (or those of us who need sick days ourselves) or have other appointments or obligations, having a flexible boss is the greatest perk you could ever have! Who needs anything more than time? If you can make up time, work a different day or work different hours to fit around your needs that is one of the biggest benefits an employer can offer!

I am so glad I have that! It is up to the individual bosses and chiefs though so many sections don't have this much flexibility. I feel very lucky!

In your line of work, that is very true. Time is the greatest reward, more time with your family, more time to work on your business, etc.. Lucky you that you have found it, Jessica!!

And I'm really happy that your husband that he finally found work too.

He has had a job this whole time he just needs to find something better. He has not yet. He got the permanent version of the temporary position he has been in.

We were afraid he would not have a job at all though (when the temporary job ended) and that has not happened, so there is that!

My Man Kaju! :D

You are accepted as a shareholder !!!:))))

The way I believe any Corporation should be build.

Building a team, working as a team, and reward everyone building with a participation in the Corporation, being a part of that Corporation.

Everyone has his her specific talents, finding those and use them to drive the Corporation forward is the goal.

In doing so, everyone earns bonuses in the profits being made, a win win for everyone.

Do what you like or what you are best at. Support in teaching each other, assist when we get stuck in our tasks.

The Corporation shall be like a family, a place you want to be and go.

It will be a lot of fun, we are going to enjoy in what we do.

For what else reason are we doing it for? Our time on this planet is limited, to enjoy, experience and give back to what our planet has to offer, this is the way how it can be done.

The workplace is a place you like to be, it is like your second home, you go with joy as you know you are being appreciated and respected for who you are and for what you create.

Together everything is possible!

Yes indeed, a winning plan! Profit sharing is a great start, and shows mutual respect to everyone by the leaders. Everyone needs to do what they are best at, and good leaders know how to recruit the right people for the right jobs.

The Corporation should definitely instill a familial culture, and within that culture FUN should be an imperative. And giving back to OUR planet, whether it be through GREEN systems i.e. eco-friendly recycling, care in not harming the natural environment through the emission of greenhouse gasses, unnecessary waste, is also part of the "caring" culture. Yes, together anything is possible.

And yes, as I would expect from you, and "Awesome, Amazing, and Astounding" comment!

Thank you Mike, I think there are many!

Interesting that you write this. Corporate Wellness and culture is at the forfront of my life right now. I am starting a venture in corporate wellness and in the meantime trying to look for a job that has a great culture. I agree with the examples you gave and have a few more ideas. Offer onsite gym or yoga class, mindfulness and have a cafe offering healthy food. Happy employees are more productive. Thank you for writing this!

This is GREAT and you definitely know what you are doing Elizabeth.

Offering onsite gym or yoga class, mindfulness and have a cafe offering healthy food are wonderful perks and it shows the company has a culture in place that deeply cares for their employees, and they should be very happy and productive at that company.

Good luck with your new business venture!

Dealing with people on the whole is an ongoing process that we have to keep tweaking. Would not want to be an employer. Thank you for sharing.

It s indeed a challenge to be an employer, or the leader of an organization or team. Many headaches, always tweaking, but I personally know its extremely rewarding when you get it right. Thanks for the comment!

Great post Kaju. This to me is Leadership with Passion - business and life driver.
