A Niche is Not a Niche

There has been so much other stuff going on in my life lately, I believe I failed to mention this my friends.

As you know, recently I started creating my new niche website.

Only a few short weeks ago, I found myself “sitting on the fence” regarding choosing my new niche.

Well, one thing that I definitely discovered in the process is that -

A niche is not a niche.

Sitting on a High Fence

I truly was torn between what I considered to be 2 “equally strong” passion niches for my new site.

  • One was in a field that I consider myself to be an “expert” in now
  • One was in a field that I was considered to be an authority in the past

BOTH were niches I have a very strong passion for, and both were in an area I am very good at.

Which niche do you choose?

A niche that is your passion, a niche where you are an expert, or a niche where you are an authority?

This dilemma became SO difficult, I agonized over my decision for more than one week. The week did feel much longer. It was causing lack of sleep and affecting me in other strange ways.

I had to take control over it!

When in Doubt, Do More Research

You may remember I posed a question (not coincidentally) a few weeks ago about how to make your ultimate choice between 2 equally attractive niches. Several interesting responses were given by the community, but none even alluded to a possible solution.

Well as usual in the end, I followed my own intuition and ended up taking my own advice.

After doing 2 solid days of research, my conclusion became quite apparent:

  • Not all “niches” are created equal, although future performance can never be guaranteed by past successes
  • There is a way that one can project whether one niche has a greater potential for success over another.

I’m not going to mention what my new chosen niche is at the moment, you ALL will certainly find out in due time.

All I can say is I was really excited about my choice and glad I took my own speculative advice.

However shortly after making my decision and picking my niche, My Own Worst Enemy (doubt) creeped in and even this soon felt like a double-edged sword.

Self-doubt is dangerous, and during a vulnerable moment can play tricks on the mind of anyone. Immediately it dawned on me this plan might not work. Due to the name.

In the process, I came up with a Great Name for my business branding, but I was all but certain this name for my branding would never be available.

Happy Feet!

Well, I’m happy to say that today my once impossible wish came to fruition!

The Big News today is to my outrageous shock, I was able to secure that EXACT Domain name!

The exact Domain name I had planned for and wanted all along.

Woo Hoo!! !

Life is good again, and I’m back to work!

The simple lesson here is never assume anything by allowing your temporary demons to get the best of you, always check FIRST!

Only time will tell, but I have Great confidence in my plan.

And my Plan will be executed with Great confidence!

Onward and upward Ladies and Gents!

More progress may be reported for tomorrow.

And more on my detailed findings from my research will in the near future.

Please feel free to ask any questions or make comments.

Cheers,

Kaju

Very interesting post, Kaju! I can definitely relate to this although I'm still far behind in making a decision.
I think the fact that your ideal domain name was still available, against all odds, is a clear sign that your decision is 100% right and what you picked is indeed YOUR niche. However, this might also mean that we will see less of you - when you are really passionate about your new niche, you will probably want to spend all your time working on it and filling your site with content.
But one thing is for sure: it will be a big success!

That's a GREAT point Sammy, that my ideal name is still available and I reserved it means I may be on to something in demand but less competitive!

No worries, you likely still will not see less of me, I always seem to "carve out a niche" of time during the day to post and answer all the comments of my friends.

Thanks my dear friend!

Kaju

Look forward to finding out more about your niche, Kaju.

Thanks Sammy, there is definitely more coming:)

You've learned a lot......something I learned a long, long time ago - RUN, don't walk from self doubt! It will eat you alive!

My best with your new domain.....

Laurel

Thanks so much Laurel, I would also say RUN with your ideas, don't waste too much time! The more you RUN with them, the less self-doubt you will ever have!

Good thought......I'll remember that!

Laurel

Glad to see you are leaning toward mobile Kaju!

Absolutely Mike," responsiveness" is the ONLY way to Go!

Great post

Thank You,, Victory is YOURS!:)

WOW, Kaju, very inspiring post my friend and one I can totally relate to completely.

I found myself in a similar boat, though not with the sleepless night and stuff. BUT...

I came here with a niche, one that I definitely liked and knew a lot about

HOWEVER, much like you, I found myself, looking at the stats on the content I was writing about and ALL of them pointed in a direction I hadn't even considered, but knew something, well more than something about : )

That plus reading my zodiac star sign book, which always seems to help me in times I need it and THAT gave me the biggest HINT of the lot

Like you I have now evolved into my new niche, its fun, totally compelling and absolutely no chance of saturation at all with it

There is no writers block, tons of new ideas and developments, plus just like you have found, I have the exact domain I wanted, I had an alternative with BlueHost ( another story entirely) but not the one I wanted

SO, the point of this reply is to say, good luck, with your chosen new niche, you sound contented, settled and looking forward to enjoying the ride, which knowing you from the writing here will be a great and joyful one. I'm looking forward to reading all about it

I love the Zodiac part in the decision-making Dave. That's so simply awesome!

Yep, you are right D, I feel it will be a joyful (and hopefully profitable) ride with this new niche. I'm really looking forward to it!

Thanks for the encourgement!:)

Your welcome, you will make a success of it, thats for sure

Thanks Dave, I am surely looking forward to it!:)

Dear Kaju
Here is my comment
To have Two Niches close to you is a blessing Both will be able to be used One now and the other one later So write up both Niches both positive and negative and all data and you would have one Really Resonate with you now as has happened The second one you keep adding information as it flows in so when Number one is up and running your Number two will be ready to be set up with relative ease with all the collective data..
Thanks for sharing
David

This is Great Advice David, thank you. I love the idea of collecting data on the 2nd niche, and I know I can handle it! :)

Hi Kaju
Because both are your passion you will be so glad to not Abandon the second one so it will not be considered Work but more Like a hobby
David
Ps That was a rapid response to my comment !!!!

You are Awesome David:)!

Hi Kaju

You have obviously put a lot of thought into this niche and I am sure your hard work with pay off. Will be very interesting to see what the subject is -we are all waiting with bated breath!

Best Wishes
Hazel

Ha! Thank You Hazel, the wait hopefully will not be too long, but it will be all worth it for the sake of entertainment!:)

Hey, Kaju
I am happy for you. You found a direction. Sometimes that is the biggest stumbling block of all. My stumbling block is the theme creation. I get stuck in the mechanics of WordPress. But I am slowly learning. I have to laugh at myself; I can perform minor surgery on the human body but stumble all over myself in WordPress. There has to be some irony there somewhere. My husband took a turn for the worst and went to ICU tonight. I am not sure if he will come home this time. It is going to be a long night.
your friend Sandy

I am SO very sorry to hear about your husband Sandy, I will pray that he will recover. Stay in contact with loved ones if possible, and if not you have ME and the community here for you.

It's quite strange how we can perform certain very difficult specialized tasks with complete competency, yet get stumped over something much more pedestrian, isn't it?

But when we persevere and apply all of our wisdom and effort, we usually can beat the odds of those challenges. Just as I pray your husband will beat the odds and come home once again.

Bless you my friend,
Kaju

Thoughts are with you and your husband Sandy.

Best Wishes
Hazel

:):)

Why my friend are up so early? I have an excuse. I am sitting outside the ICU. They kicked me out. I was trying to run the show. The staff did appreciate my expertise. Too many cooks in the kitchen. But I know my husband, and how to handle his dialysis, better than they do. Old story new tune. My son is my family. He is only fourteen and went deep six tonight. He is not ready to lose his DAD. No child is. I knew this was coming so I had our Bishop on standby. He came and took Jaden to the chapel. So I know he is in the right the right hand.
your true friend Sandy

It is so hard to lose a parent at any age but fourteen is very young. I lost a parent at 18 and know how it can affect you. It is good to have the Bishop as support for your son. Take care of yourself as well as it easy to neglect your own needs.

Best Wishes
Hazel

I've not been to sleep, so sorry you are going through this experience. I am glad you are there for him, you know better than those nurses, and having been a caregiver several times, I personally know firsthand how difficult this is on you and your son.

Stay close with your son and by your husband's side.
My this day Bless You All and Keep you Safe.

Your true friend,
Kaju

Yes and I myself also at a young age.

Dear Kaju thank for all the support. Now you try and get some sleep. It does not do well to burn The candles at both ins.
A true friend Sandy

Decision making can be our biggest headache, I have had a pressing passion that I have pushed aside for sometime cause I really did not think it would be one to work so well as some others, but like you I did a bit of digging and test trial, so I will be getting on with that one.. I will be very interested to see what niche you have come up with and I wish you every success with it

Thanks Katie, it was really a tough decision, but I am comfortable with it and see great possibilities. No doubt tt will be very interesting when it is exposed in the future!!

Good Luck with your niche, and much success!

Kaju
