What's affiliate marketing and how does it work?
For the uninitiated, I want to talk about what affiliate marketing is. So what's affiliate marketing and how does it work? There are many variations of the definition of affiliate marketing. Most people define it as the process of a company paying someone for referring customers to their products. But the best way I can explain the concept to someone who has never heard of it is with this analogy:
Have you ever had a friend ask you for a recommendation?
Maybe they are visiting your city and want to know the best steakhouse restaurant in town. So you tell them:
"Hey, there is this really awesome steak restaurant in downtown called _____"
They go to that restaurant and have an awesome time. Then they tell the owner that they heard of it because of you. Then the owner gives you a free dinner or a gift card or some other type of compensation. You are happy because you get something for your recommendation, the restaurant is happy because they have a new customer, and your friend is happy because they got a really satisfying steak dinner.
This is in essence the concept of what affiliate marketing is.
Why should everyone give affiliate marketing a try?
Whether we realize it or not, we give recommendations all the the time.
"Oh, this new brewery opened up in town and we have to try out their craft beers"
"If you want a smooth consistency with your smoothies, you should get a nutribullet"
"You should buy Nikes new running shoes, they have extra support for the soles of your feet"
If any variation of the above statements sound familiar to you and your friend actually takes your advice, that is the concept of affiliate marketing in play. The only key addition is that you are getting paid in order to recommend your friends products.
In fact, there are many companies out there that actually want to share their money with you.
Companies like Amazon, Target, Uber, NBA, and the list goes on and on.
So now I bet you are asking, why these giant companies and fortune 500 companies out there want to share their money with me? The answer,
the more business you can share with them, the more money they make. The more money they make, guess what, the more money they can share with you!
Now that I have gotten that I have covered that question, the only question then becomes, will you take them up on their offer of letting them share their money with you?
