Hi Jessica. Genesis framework is it?
Go to their website, they should have a lot of theme specific instructions for people with their themes.
I'm sure your answer will be there.
Failing that, have a looksy on Youtube for Genesis related stuff.
And failing that, try asking Jay, I know he uses (or did use) Genesis on some of his sites. He likes Genesis.
I noticed his trainings on genesis i will send him a message. I found one tut online but it was very confusing wanting you to mess with PHP and im not that advanced! If it comes to it i might switch themes.

When I first started at WA and built my first site, I went through HUNDREDS of themes (free ones) then about 5 premium ones. I finally found the one worth sticking with. So will you, I'm sure.

Is it better to choose a few products that you are loyal to, or to promote many products as long as there in your niche? More affiliate programs or limited?
The more products you promote within your niche the greater the chance of you being able to earn a commission.
However saying that, if you are in a specialised niche that is very specific, you can still do well by selling a handful of items.
Personally, I began with Amazon. As I'm now becoming more experienced, I find ways to monetize my site through other affiliate programs.
I see that you have started this journey about a week ago. Best to start with one or two Affiliate programs, promoting as many products you care too otherwise you can easily become overwhelmed
