My Siblings

I come from a family of four brothers and five sisters. I was number eight in line with only one younger brother and one younger sister. The rest of my siblings were up thirteen years older than myself so there was always an age difference in our perspective on life.

Three of my older brothers and one of my older sisters and one of my younger sisters have already died. Their passing was an intense shock to the family each time it occurred. We all dealt with it in our own way. I decided that if I could help any of them that I would.

The Disease

In February of this year, I was called upon by my sister who is four years my senior to take her to the doctor. She was told that she had colon cancer and would have to have one third of her colon removed. She went to the hospital on the day she was scheduled for surgery. They did the required blood work for the surgery and found that her blood was almost normal with the exception of her diabetes. They did an MRI to determine where to start with the surgery and found only a small tumor. They did more testing and found she could be treated without surgery. This was one of those drop to your knees and thank God for his goodness types of days.

One month later, my sister who is six years older than myself called and asked if I could give her a ride to the doctor since she was ill. I agreed to take her and she found that she had cancer. I cannot pronounce the name of it but it was a very private cancer. She was told that she needed surgery. The day of the surgery we went in to have her prepped for surgery and they did the requisite blood work and could find no evidence of cancer. Her doctor wanted to go ahead and at least do a biopsy on the lymph nodes in the area to be certain that there was nothing for my sister to fear in the future. My sister agreed to the surgery and the biopsy came back normal.

At the beginning of this month, my younger brother called and asked for my help to take him to the doctor. I agreed. I had to be in Houston on June 18 in order to take him to the hospital to have a biopsy done on the lower lobe of his right lung. From all the testing he had been through, the doctors were certain that he had a rare lung disease that would require surgery within two weeks. He went in for his biopsy and you guessed it, the tumors were so small that there was no way to get a biopsy except for major surgery. The doctors and my brother both agreed that it would not be in my brother's best interest to do the surgery.

How does all of this concern Wealthy Affiliate? Lessons Learned

You may ask yourself: How does all of this concern Wealthy Affiliate?

The answers are unbelievable. All of my siblings, who were ill did an amazing amount of research on their particular illness. They wanted to know the symptoms, the treatment and the side effects of the surgery and possible therapies used to help the process of eradication of their particular disease. This sounds like keyword research to me.

When they had the opportunity to give up, they dug their heels in and would not give up but kept looking for a solution. This sounds like our certification classes.

When they had run out of ideas on where to look for more information, they sought advice from other sources. This sounds like the Community.

In conclusion, I would tell every member of Wealthy Affiliate that no matter how hard the class seems, how much you may not understand the answers are there. If you can't find the answer then ask. For those of us who have been here for a while, do not be rude to those who are new for once we were there as well. There is one thing not covered by any lesson here at WA and that is faith in yourself and for me faith in God. He makes it all possible.

Holy Molly Jerry, this has got to be for me a life changing moment.

Jerry, thank for sharing such a touching story. Blessing to you and your family
Sandy

Good message. Many blessings to you.
Trevor

Very touching story. Sorry to hear about your family. Great Post.
To your success.

They are all doing well and are cancer free. The doctors have no explanation. My siblings and I say that it was God trying to get their attention. It worked and all of them are now believers.
Jerry

That is wonderful to hear and a proud believer.

Thank you, Jerry for sharing; I enjoyed every minute of it. Glad your siblings are doing well and cancer free. BTW, I live in Houston and love me some Pappasitos, and, of course, you can't forget Los Cucos!

I live in Texarkana, Texas. I have not had the opportunity to go to Los Cucos. My niche is grilling so I always look for grilled foods.
Jerry

That's awesome; Grilling is such a great niche. Thanks again for the share.

nice post and if I'm ever told I need surgery I'm calling you to take me to the doctor. lol

or maybe I'll come to Houston andthen we can go to Mama Ninfas on Navigation. :))

Found another place you might like as well. Pappasitos. I am in the process of writing a blog about my experience there. It was absolutely amazing. They used some of the ways of grilling that I blogged about from Mexico. Blog should be ready tomorrow evening.
Jerry

I look forward to reading it. I have been to one or two Pappasitos. The Mexican restaurant not the burger or seafood places.

You're so right!
I know more about adenoid cystic carcinoma (stage 3 that came from nowhere) than my oncologist, my surgeon and my hematologist put together. I know what drugs I need (from the docs) and what supplements to take when and in what amounts after hours of my research. I only fight with the docs a little, they usually let me get my way because of the amount of research I hand them.
After 7 years I'm still not cancer free - it started in my parotid gland (salivary gland that runs north inside your cheek) and was considered "gone". It's now moved to my lungs which makes it Stage 4....I was warned it might so we caught it early.
Now here's the kicker, I walk either 4 or 7 miles every day rain, shine, hell or high water depending on the amount of time I have. Oh and by the way, these are 15 minute miles.
Everytime I go in to see whatever doc is next up on the list, they always ask a bunch of what I consider dumb questions. One in particular.......Am I depressed or had suicidal thoughts? Hell no, I'm too busy living my life...............
You should be very proud of your family, they obviously know How to LIVE theirs!

My best,

Laurel

Laurel,
You are an inspiration to me. My siblings would be proud of you and what you have accomplished. The more information you have the better you can handle whatever comes your way. I admire your spirit and attitude. If you do not mind I will pray for you.
Jerry

Thanks much!

I've found there's never too many people praying for you in this life!

My best to you and your family,

Laurel

The parallel and moral of this story cuts through like a knife. Thanks for that Jerry.

God Bless, Brad
