Phase 2 Well Under Way

What happens next?

I realize some of you have been wondering where I have been lately. Ever since I had that limb fall through my roof that I have been able to spend at most an hour per day on WA. I had to get all of the debris cleaned up and the limb cut into pieces of firewood. It is harder than you would believe if you have never done it before.

I am in the beginning of Phase 2 which entails getting estimates on the actual repair of my home. The lowest estimate I have had to date is upwards of 15,000usd. The largest estimate I have had is 22,000usd. The low estimate does not include disposing of the waste. The larger estimate they dispose of the waste.

Unexpected Expense

When I was talking to one of the contractors about the roof repair, he pointed out there were still three limbs about the same size as the one that had fallen on my house all had cracks about two feet long and three inches across still over my house.

I thanked him of course for pointing this out to me. It took me off guard since it seems on the surface to be a healthy tree. I am taking no chances with the tree and have had arborists to come take a look. The removal of the limbs range from 100usd per limb to 1250 usd per limb. One takes the debris and the other leaves it. I will have to make a decision determining to the best overall cost.

Reaching New Heights

I am having to do 90% of the work myself. I am glad I took shop in high school 40+ years ago. I plan to reach new heights as result of all of this negative I have encountered in the last thirty days. I will have the Online courses done this weekend and at least three new posts to my site.

I have pulled a similarity between my situation and someone building a website.

  1. back to basics
  2. what is truly needed
  3. follow the steps in order
  4. have a plan in place
  5. use addons only when necessary
  6. review steps taken and look for improvements
  7. have a backup plan ready
  8. make plenty of time available to achieve desired results
  9. even when things are not going well make sure you are doing some work every day
  10. complete task at hand and ask an expert for advice.

These are all things you must do to be successful. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

I forgot to mention, there was a man in Australia, some years back, who applied to the local council to have a tree cut down on several occasions because of the danger. He was refused AND a few years later the tree went through his house and killed him. Sometimes things can be too green.

Can you get a chainsaw and chop it up and sell it or give it away as firewood after it is lopped?

Oh by the way, my mate is a roofer and I worked with him for 6 months until I put a skylight in a kitchen ...... with my body! LOL, although at the time I wasn't laughing.

Good to hear from you Jerry.
Sounds like that neighbor already knows he’s going to be on the hook for a portion of this. I’d have the contractor divide the bill in half and deliver the other bill directly to your neighbor!
Wish you all the best.
KyleAnn

They have been aware of this for 30 years and would not take action so they will get the full bill.
Jerry

Good for you!

Hi Jerry...glad you're moving on to the next phase....great analogy to WA. That's keeping a good attitude!
Debbie

I hope you get it all sorted out, Jerry. Shame on that neighbor. I believe you can take this a little further along.

All the best and please keep us updated.
David

Wow, Jerry, we are so glad to hear some news from you.
Just saw below that the tree belongs to your neighbor who is avoiding you. Hope you can pin them down to get some accountability.
Please take care.

We have small claims courts available.
Jerry

Hoping all is well with you. Sure miss you around here.

That's a big tree. Try not to work too hard. Love the pictures.

Sounds like whole lot of tree. You will have plenty of firewood and you could probably sell it if you don’t want it and make a little money back. Hope things work out for you.

All the best,
Marcus

Will have to split all that I can. I have no use for the wood except to sell it.
Jerry

I hear ya, but depending on the type of wood it is when it dries out it could be great for the smoker or chip it and use it for your landscaping.
Best,
Marcus

red oak

You can’t go wrong with that! Jackpot!
Best,
Marcus

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Jerry.

Into every life a little rain must fall. I use that rain to plant and nourish other parts of my life. Not always easy but brings better dividends than crying.
Jerry

What's the charge to remove the entire tree?

10,000usd. It is a very large tree. It is 15 feet at the base and almost 100 feet tall.

Belongs to my neighbor who is avoiding me.
