Living in my niche
A Day in the Park
Yesterday literally was a day in the Park for me. I had some siblings who live out of town come in for a visit. They had texted me a couple of weeks ago requesting that I cook a special meal for them since my niche is grilling. I looked through my extensive list of recipes and what happens nothing appeals to me. I started the process of designing another recipe but nothing was going the way I wanted. Either it was too sweet, too salty, too much fennel, not enough pepper or something along that line. I was explaining my dilemma to my wife and she asked about using a bottle of dry red wine that we had chilling in the fridge.
Enjoying Family
This was the first time in several years that we had to the occasion to sit and enjoy a meal. It was fantastic. The brisket has turned out to perfection. At the park, I grilled some corn on the cob, one sister had prepared our mother's recipe for baked beans, another sister had prepared cole slaw and potato salad. We had all contributed to the meal in our own special way. The camaraderie was the best that I remembered. Ordinarily our meal would have lasted about an hour, today our meal lasted almost three hours. We apparently were having a good time because runners, walkers and just passersby in general would stop by and contributer to whatever conversation we were having. This just enhanced what we were experiencing as a family. We invited people to join us since they were having as good of a time as we were. Before you knew it we had around 50 people gathered, the only ones that we knew were family. I will never forget the day because of the love that we all showed each other. This was one of those days where only love was allowed to be present.
Saying Goodbye
We were at the park for almost 6 hours and had expected to be there for just 2 or three hours. You could see the unwillingness on the faces of all present the reluctance of leaving. How often does anyone experience this in their lifetime to have such a blessed day. I have been to several amazing events in my life but this one exceeded all of them.In closing
In closing, I feel that our picnic was a blessed event, not because it was ours but because of the outpouring of love. I have never regretted choosing my niche of grilling since it gives me the opportunity to do for others. I hope that you all have you DAY IN THE PARK.

What an amazing family you have because you exude quality characteristics that attracted the 50 odd people that joined you that day
We have no idea what brought the others to us. The love and peace we all felt came from somewhere higher.

Lovely! Thanks for sharing Jerry!
Time flies by so quickly - and these lovely times with family happens too little. Cherish the beautiful memories!

Sharlee, our experience at the park went so far beyond family that I do not have the words to describe it.
Jerry
Yes, I read it and I thought to myself "WOW - what an experience for ALL of you!" But it started off with the family, which is also special. I'm so happy for you!

Hi! Jerry,
Thank you for sharing such a lovable family event, which is surely the making of years, if not decades, to nurture that lasting-longer-than-expected gathering. But, glad to see you return to WA community to extend your helping hands.
Much appreciated,
James
Thank you for the read. The family event turned into a social event for all to participate in. I have not been on WA as much as I would like since I am also responsible for getting a fundraiser together.

Wonderful getting together with family is always a fun and blessed event.Families are so split apart today with distance and or activities.
That is the case with our family. We are split apart by distance and old wounds. This day was brought about by something larger that ourselves. The love and peace we all felt can't be described.

Wonderful and irreplaceable (been there I understand).
