The Effects of Disaster
My house looked a little better than this photo but not by much. My heart goes out to the people in Florida who suffered through Hurrican Micheal. They have a long road ahead of them for recovery. Some of them lost everything they had, I feel blessed after witnessing the devastation they have gone through.
As I posted a few weeks back about what happened to my home, I have been given a physical and mental opportunity in my niche. I have been invited to grill 3 times a week for this one grocery store. This has been going very well until I let slip that I was using my own recipes for the spices for all the items I have been grilling. The Store Director decided that since I was making my own rubs that I surely had a signature barbecue sauce. Well, not only do I not have a signature sauce, I don't use sauces on any of the meat I grill. I love to taste the richness of grilled meat and not cover it up. I was given a special meal to prepare for this weekend that uses a barbecue sauce. Uh Oh!!! I went online in search of the right sauce for the dish and guess what there was not one that I would use. I then went to my trusty dusty brain and compiled all I had read and came up with one that I would use.
Looking at what I have done in the last 2 weeks, I have smoked the two best briskets of my 45 years of grilling, smoked 3 of the best pork butts for pulled pork, smoked 3 turkeys where the meat literally fell off the bone, developed 4 different rubs and 1 barbecue sauce from scratch that is superior to any I have tasted to date. It has been a very busy 2 weeks with 4 more weeks like it coming. You may be asking yourself how all of this can be utilized in my blog about grilling with all of the experience and research I have done. Very simply put, this allowed me to develop more as a person and as an expert in my chosen niche. The grocery store Vice President is there to help close the store and has eaten some of every item I have cooked and has made me an offer to BRAND all of my products as an exclusive item in the chain. We are still negotiating on prices.

I have been challenged by some of the grill masters in the area to beat them. That was a mistake on their part. I do customer research to find what is most important to them in taste, consistency and affordability. They lose..

Thanks. It has been a whirlwind the last 6 weeks since we had our little disaster. I have 4 more weeks of cooking for the store and now I am getting calls for smoked turkeys, hams and briskets for Thanksgiving. I may have to invest in more equipment to keep it going.

I do appreciate the Nurse in you. I have a brother and sister who are both Nurses. Imagine the weekly lectures that I get.

Oh, Jerry, I do feel for you, living around Nurses. I am a Nurse Practioner which makes that much worse. As we say "once a nurse always a Nurse". I still work for the American Red Cross, and I can be called out to disaster areas. You asked Samiwilliams at what cost? That is an excellent question. Do you want to be a chef on the road for a market chain? Do want to an at home chef taking orders of grilled meat. I know I would order from you. With the Holiday season fast approaching us, I see you being very busy! And most likely need more equipment, and help. I for one always order my turkey for Thanksgiving, and two Hams for Christmas. Or maybe a better way to go would be selling you meat rubs. Less work and you would be home with your family. You certainly have a lot to think about, and some magnificent, opportunity. First and foremost take care of my friend Jerry!
