How To Become Successful at Affiliate Marketing? Go Bowling!

Yes, I'm literally referring to the Sport - Bowling.

I know this sounds a bit weird and it doesn't seem to have any link between the two. But during a leisure bowling game with my family today, there are some thoughts that suddenly popped up in my mind.

So, let me share with you what bowling can teach us and how it can be applied to our online business. There are three learning points I want to share and let's get straight to the points...

3 Mindset Tips To Become Successful at Affiliate Marketing

(P.S. If you're not familiar with Bowling and its rules, you should check out the guide below first, if not you will be confused at what I'll be saying later: https://www.thoughtco.com/bowl...)

#1 Consistency Is The Key To Success!

Basically, a bowling game has 10 frames. You have 2 chances to take down 10 bowling pins in each frame, except the 10th frame which has an opportunity for the extra throw.

So if you do the math, you'll see that theoretically the max score you can have in one game is 120. (9 frames of 10 pins each and 10th frame has a maximum of three strikes.)

However, in reality, the maximum score you can get in one game is 300.

This is because you're actually "Rewarded for your CONSISTENCY".

If you're not familiar with bowling, the link above has more detailed explanation. The basic concept is that if you can consistently take down 10 pins in each frame, you'll be rewarded - the scores will be higher.

But if you cannot do it consistently, meaning that you get a few strikes here and there without consistency, your score will be lower than people who can consistently get a spare.

(A spare is a term used in bowling to indicate that all of the pins have been knocked down after the second throw of a frame.)

And this concept can definitely be applied in our affiliate marketing business. If you want to be successful, you need to consistently put in the effort to provide content, engage with your audience, generate more traffic, etc.

If you can't do it consistently and stop at the small victories along the way (like you stop putting in effort when you earn a few commissions), you'll definitely fail.

All those who succeed in affiliate marketing are those who persist and consistently put in effort.

(By the way, you not only need to consistently put efforts into your business, but you also need to consistently invest in your own development to improve yourselves, especially the mind. That's how to become really successful in time to come.)

#2 There Are A Lot Of Ways To Succeed. You Just Have To Practice and Find Your Way.

In bowling, there are many approaches you can get a strike or a spare (e.g. straight ball, hook ball, etc, from different angles.) but you just have to stick to one or two and keep practicing until you are very good at it.

Similarly, there are really tons of ways and opportunities for you to succeed in affiliate marketing. There are many different tools, platforms, strategies.

For most affiliate marketers, having a website is a must for affiliate marketing. But there are also many who are successful at affiliate marketing who don't have any websites. They simply do affiliate marketing through media like Facebook Ads and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) and are still making tons of sales.

Looking at an even bigger picture, affiliate marketing is just one of the ways to make money online. There are tons and tons of ways to make money online. I totally believe the Internet has the place for everyone to turn their passion into their money-making machine online.

So, if you're a beginner in this online business, I would suggest you to do your own research, invest in some programs/platform until you find the most suitable one for you and stick to it.

Once you've found a suitable platform/path for you, don't fall into the "shiny object syndrome". Avoid all the other attractive opportunities. Back to point number one, be CONSISTENT in your choice!

(P.S. Affiliate marketing is not everything. Wealthy Affiliate is not everything. Although they are powerful and we can definitely succeed with WA, we can't deny the fact that there are a lot more opportunities out there which may be a better fit for you. Who knows...)

#3 Aiming & Going Towards The Right Target is Very Important.

The 10 bowling pins are arranged in a triangular shape as shown below:

You need to hit the first pin to have a higher chance of striking. So, if you can't hit the first pin, it's very very hard for you to get a strike at one throw.

My point is this:

If you want to succeed, you need to have ONE clear goal, make plans and take massive actions towards achieving the goal. There's always one goal that when you achieve it, it will trigger the next and the next. As long as you aim at the right target and stick to it, your achievement will be bigger and bigger, just like how the bowling pins fall when you hit at the right spot with the right angle.

Conclusion

These are the things I observe and learn during today's family bowling time. I hope this makes sense to you and help you in one way or another.

Let me know what you think about these mindsets and whether you agree with me. If you could also share some of your success tips with us, that will be awesome!

Let's grow together, learn from one another and succeed together :)

I wish you great success in whatever endeavors you're pursuing.

Super valuable lessons!

Thank you Jerry :)

You're welcome Midhun!

Great analogy Jerry.

I haven't bowled in years. In fact the last time I did was on a date with a young lady who eventually became my wife. We have been married for 54 years.

On about our 3rd date I ask my future wife what she would like to do. She said let's go bowling. I had never bowled, but was a good athlete in high school (football, basketball, baseball).

She explained the game (and did the scoring). I spent a few minutes watching the other bowlers. Then we started our first game. My best game for the evening was a score of 240. My date was pretty impressed, but I really didn't appreciate what I had done.

Of course I thought it was pretty cool that my date was impressed.

Wow, that’s really awesome! You’re definitely a very good sportsman!

Nice analogy Jerry!

Thank you!

It’s not about hitting a strike, it about hitting a strike each an every time you go down the lane. It take practice to attain this consistency. Thanks for using the game as it relates to what we are doing here at WA Jerry. Consistency is indeed the key.
