Ugh, just had this whole thing typed and somehow lost it :(
Ok I was ranking with two different keyword phrases, then a week or two ago I just completely stopped ranking.
I am always at a loss when it comes to technical errors. Had a few myself, and always had to count on my good buddies here
Before addressing the "ranking" issue, let me ask if you have Webmaster Tools errors listed under "DNS, Server connectivity, and Robots.txt fetch?" or just URL Errors? The URL Errors are common crawl errors, it means Google crawl script has detected some irregularities with some of your URL or web pages. Just click on the highlighted errors and check the error details and try to fix them.
The above errors as i understood are normally not catastrophic or seriously impact your site ranking. The ranking topic has deeper implications, for now just make sure your GWT is happy with you - 1. Google recognises you as the owner (Google Authorship); 2. Google crawls and understands your website (with XML Sitemap). These must happen before Google can fetch and index your content correctly for due ranking. Hope this helps!
They are site errors, not URL. I have authorship established but didn't have the sitemap yet. Now I do. My main page is now ranking again, but nothing else is, and I still have the same site errors showing.
You have to wait for Google next crawl to see if those errors are resolved as they may be related to your Sitemap. You can test submitting your new Sitemap from GMT to check for any error. Crawl > Sitemap > Add Test Sitemap
Sorry I cannot help, I am not there yet, but i will be interested in knowing the answers. In the meantime, why not sending a private message with screenshots (I think private messages can go with attachments) to Carson, Kyle, or someone you think has the required knowledge? You will have to be very specific here.

Wish I knew what to tell you, jensong, but I'd be just as much in the dark as you. I'll be watching this discussion with much interest because I'd like to know the answers, too.

Thanks for the feedback! I read your blogs, definitely a lot to consider. My target audience would likely be upper middle class homeowners who want to decorate their home. Or business owners who want to decorate their home. I suppose professional interior designers would fall into that too.
I do art photography for decoration. I actually was a student at Brooks Institute of Photography for 3 years. I loved it there, but it was SO expensive, and honestly I wasn't a good student back then, and I didn't graduate. But I've had a passion for photography my whole life, which is a big part of why I got into that school.
I do have a photography website that my dad built for me years ago. I would like to completely redo one and likely get rid of that one. It generates no traffic and just isn't how I'd like it to be. But you can see the type of photography I do there: jennisphoto.com
Now I don't know what to use as a domain :/
Yes selling art is a tricky one. I do have some pictures on cafepress and I make some sales from that. I also sell my photos as greeting cards. You may want to look into that.
You also need to decide if you want to make money with affiliate programs or photography or both like I'm doing.
Thanks. I just know that with the sites I've done I ranked a lot earlier with the keywords in my domain than any content, which is why I asked this question. But I have kids climbing all over me so I'm probably not thinking clearly :P I think I'll just do artisticphotographyforsale.
It doesn't matter what your domain name is, your content is what gets you rankings. Don't go with something that doesn't make sense... like 'artistic photography for' .. for what? You don't need to get hung up on using a keyword in your domain itself, it can be whatever you want!

So I've been around here for a couple of months. Been taking it pretty slowly as my two young kids take up much of my time. Well it's looking like our financial need is going
Jensong, Decision will always be yours as have been expressed by others. But, one thing we must remember is that no decision is bad, provided you can stick to it, hold it, continue it and justify it. That requires courage, character, capacity and confidence. Do not dwindle. Ask your inner self. If it says, you need to do a job then ask him to give you strength to continue both the job and your online venture alongside for sometime till you can leave your job.
Only YOU (and hubby) can answer that question. I love your photography though. You take the same kind of photos as I do. LOVE the roses!!!! I just noticed you have a Canon. I have a Nikon. I think the link that "tea cup" provided was a good one to read. I wish you success in whatever you decide. Debbi
These are very serious decisions you have to make. I would sit down with the hubby to figure out the best way forward for the family.

Hi Jen, I love your photos. You really do have an artist's eye for things. I also think that your hair site has potential. No one can tell you what to do. You have to follow your heart with your head attached. This takes time but there are some who really buckled down and made it work pretty quickly. You're talking about the photo site, right? I'm actually probably just going to get rid of that one as it's one my dad controls and he has no time to do anything with it. I've got all my photos and info so I'll probably just start a new one. I want to redo it anyway, especially with all of the training I've learned here. I only shared it to show the type of photography I do.
