Smile Is Therapeutic!

Did you know that smiling is not only the most beautiful expressions of our face making us enjoying more and communicate better? The smile also has a huge therapeutic impact! To smile can easily lift up your mood in no time.

I often discovered the Smile exercising Yoga. We always started our Yoga class with a greeting and a Smile posture: While we were lying relaxed on the mat and breathing in and out consciously, we were maintaining a slight smile. In this smile we were enclosing every person in the room, our environment, the entire world, the entire Universe and ourselves.

I did it many times, but it really blew my mind when I incidentally discovered for the very first time that when I smile I cannot think any negative, frustrating or sad thoughts or hold on to be upset with something or somebody.

I remember the first time using the smile therapeutically. I was going on the trip to visit a girlfriend but needed to deal with a huge frustration I experienced a day before. I don't remember what it was. :-) But I remember sitting in my car and barely being able to think about anything else than that annoying event.

And suddenly a smile occurred in my face and the negative thoughts were gone!!

I practiced the smile on the entire trip of four hours. First off to get rid of all negative thoughts, and after they were gone I smiled because it felt good!

Did you know that you use over 17 muscles in your face when you smile?

Scientists claim that it takes about 17 muscles to produce a smile. That is already quite bit! Some studies claim that there are even 26 facial muscles involved to bring your face and your entire body to emanate your light!

When we make a certain facial expression as for example a smile, we are instantly channeling a bundle of information that is addressed to ourselves and to others. They may receive it, read, interpret and respond to it or not.

By contracting or expanding of our facial muscles in different combinations, we can create different messages about our emotional state, our feelings, our mood, our physical health, our mental state, our immediate environment, etc.

Altogether, we possess about 43 muscles in our face. Most of these muscles are controlled by so-called cranial nerve that is also known as the facial nerve.
The facial nerve exits the cerebral cortex, come out of the skull in front of the ears, and then it splits into five primary branches which stretch out into different areas of the face causing contractions of muscles and allowing the face to show various expressions. These expressions allow us to communicate with the outer world. But these expressions are also the basis for a permanent dialog with ourselves.

A smile is an expression of being content, joyful and happy created in the cooperation between the brain and the muscles. When you smile your message to yourself and your body is: I feel good, I'm good! I'm happy! I'm creative! Everything is good!

So please, tell yourself your feel good, and you will!

This blog post is a draft version of my new blog post on my website.

I used this smile exercise this morning, and it made my day!

Thank you very much for taking time and reading. I enjoy every comment so please leave plenty of them below! MAHALO!

And could you give me a Smile, please?

Aloha, Jenna

I couldn't agree more! No matter how silly I feel or how angry I am, I always smile. I know that part of the reason I've gotten into the habit of smiling when I'm upset is because I worked a lot of years in retail, but it's a habit I've always kept and customers used to say that I worked so well under pressure. If only they knew that the only thing keeping me in such a good mood that I didn't flip out on people (seriously, people are so petty sometimes!) was because I smiled.

This is wonderful, Aria! Thank you very much!
Send to you my most beautiful smile :-)))

Wish you an awesome day!

Nice post, and a great reminder to us that we can change our inner world by changing the outer one. Smiling eases all that inner discomfort. Good advice, Jenna.

Thank you very much, Fran!

I love it.
I hate looking at the fashion parades. None of the women in a fashion parade smile and I say they look ugly. After a show, one was interviewed and smiled. She looked pretty.
My quote, "Smile and show the World Your Inner Beauty." Tom Short.
Smiling is very healthy.
My wife is proof of it. We live in Australia.
This is what I wrote to a friend in the US, "My wife laughs off her health problems and many of her doctors cannot understand what is keeping her alive. 13 years ago she was told she had a very invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer.
The nurse who drove her to the Tamworth hospital 300 miles from here was so upset that my wife Robyn laughed at her and said she would drive home. Laughter is a great medicine."
She has many others problems. Bad heart failure etc.
Smile and laugh your life away and we all will join you.
Tom.
