Site Speed Issues! What Do YOU Think About My Solution?

Aloha Guys!

I recentlly requested your support with my site's speed issues and received lots of help and good ideas, especially Kaju's training that is really profound, and I really see Kaju's point there.

However, only to think about the image documentation in the excel sheets kills my motivation to start.

Therefore I looked for a better way (for me) and I think I have found one.

My solution

First Step: I will use the first step from Kaju's training, and change the settings for images. I tried to change the AdSense setting, unfortunaltelly without success. Here I need to dig little bit more. I think the Google adds contribute to a lot of loadwork and make the website going slow.

Second Step: I will erase ALL images and check the speed. I noticed that my still image-free new posts load as slow or slower as the posts with images.

What - maybe - indicates another additional issue.

Therefore, Third Step: Ask SiteSupport for help if they find something I cannot see.

Fourth Step: Wisely implement images to the posts and pages.

I know that Google Analytics and the Google Search Console are the part of the training in level 5. But I would recommend to newbies to implement both of them in the very beginning of your website development!!! So you can see what your site is doing!! Especially, if you have issues with indexing. This may be indicator for errors and speed issues why google may ignore your website.

So guys, what do you think about my solution??

Each advice much appreciated!!

Thank you for reading and commenting!! I appreciate your time and effort!

Have an awesome weekend!

Sending love and light to everyone!!

Aloha, Jenna

UPDATE My results:

Shutting down the Google AdSense Ads all posts gained up to 25 points in speed computer and up to 20 points for mobile devices.

Just got the advice from Andre (apache1) to change the SiteSpeed from Accelerate to Extreme. This brought ... oh see yourself

First image after shutting down AdSense. Before desktop was orange and mobile red in low thirties or lower

After changing the SiteSpeed to extreme all mobile except three went up in high sixties and better. Thank you Andre!!! HAPPY!!!!! I'm already supper happy with that result. But I do the images too!

Thank you for your support!!

Again, Aloha to all of you!

Good Morning Jenna,

What a bore and I am suffering the same. Google Ads are limited to 2 in the sidebar and 1 in the footer. I will check again today.
Posts that were all nice and green turned red and I thought it was because of adding Amazon books etc. As I told you before my photos are all standard and big so that should not be a problem.
It has started to rain here after more than 1 month without a drop.

Have a nice Sunday, Taetske

Good morning, Taetske! Aloha!

Wow, three ... They put SEVEN on every of my posts, and two of them are duplicated twice. Such a waste! I didn't find any settings for the number of ads you allow to be on your website, so I turned then off and gained about 30 points of speed. And then I changed SiteSpeed from Accelerated to Extreme and this gave me up to 100 for desktop and high 60s/70s by mobile!

So turn the ads first and check out the speed and then turn on Extreme and check it. Enjoy turning green!

We got serious rain last night. Very very nice. Filled up the catchment too.
But the rain situation is strange, for over three weeks no serious rain, only few drops here and there.
Sending many higs to Costa del Sol!!
Aloha Taetske!

Jenna

Good evening Jenna,

In the beginning, I gave Google Adsense carte blanche and they put their ads all over the place. Even interrupting comments. It was awful so we said no way. Then we logged in and there is a place where you can decide where they are allowed to appear. Cannot explain that better as Michael did it, was not too easy.

I checked and I am on extreme.

I am highly irritated, will give you some examples.

26 March, 89-89 today 73-34
16 October 76-80 today 71-35
and now it comes! Privacy Policy, that one I have not touched!
26 March 94-87 today 89-55

I am p...off and am going to bed.

Higs, Taetske

Tomorrow, turn off the ads and try the speed again!

Sleep well!!
Many higs to Costa del Sol!
Aloha, Jenna

Aloha Jenna!
It’s great that you have found solutions. Let’s wait and see the results.
Meanwhile I’m just curious about your plugins, what does your Sitemap say about them?

Thank you, Jane!
I turned off three plug ins but this didn't make a difference for the site-speed.
Turning off the google ads brought the speed up for about 30 points!

Aloha, Jenna

That’s a start. But you need Google ads to be on!

Thank you, Jane!
Aloha, Jenna

Welcome Jenna!

:-)))

Did you check out the "smush" plugin for compressing images? I think it's great.

Thank you, Fran!
Andre (apache1) recommended it to me! Will check it out on Monday. I have a huge improvement after I have changed only the two parameters ...

Thank you for your support!
Aloha, Jenna

See you have been busy, what is optimum that should be on Mobile Jenna, I see you have improved a lot. Site support did help me when I needed it. and where do you go to see site speed.
Linda

Yeah! Lots of thinking ... I knew I cannot do the excel sheets! No way! I was blocked by it. Then I created a nice little plan starting with checking certain things and I only followed up with my results ... was cool to find out, to get all that information and advises.

You go to the SiteManager and then view details of your website.
When on details scroll down to SiteSpeed-Insight
Refresh and maybe click on G Google Analyse of certain posts.
Hope this helps!! Important stuff, Linda!!

Sending higs!!
Jenna

I'm happy being in orange. My posts ran in 20s, 30s.
Would think 80ish ..

Big hig!
Aloha, Jenna

sounds good, will do. thank my friend. many higs

Hi Jenna

There can be many issues affecting your site speed most often it can be the images are not optimized as well as they can be.
Adsense could be another issue itself

As you have hosting here that I believe is fine and as you mentioned you have the site speed activated perhaps try the extreme if you haven't already.

I agree with others, themes can make a whole difference as some are not as well coded compared to others.

Personally, I use Iconic one for both my sites and I have found in the past when trying other themes they get worse but when I change back to Iconic One I have great speeds for both desktop and mobile.

With plugins add this plugin P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler) activate it and it will show you what plugins may be slowing your website down as again like themes are as well coded and can greatly affect your speed to the point you may need to take them off
Sent you a PM re the images

We will get it sorted soon and if you sent Site support a ticket they too will help you out more as well.

Namaste Jenna

Aloha

Andre

I wrote back to your PM already, Andre!
Thank you very much for your assistance!!
After turning off the AdSense ads and changing the SiteSpeed to extreme my desktop went up in high nineties or 100 and mobile in high sixties, seventies. Wonderful!!!

I will do the plug in on Monday and check out your theme recommendation. I use Toothpaste. I found it simple and clear.

Thank you so much for your support!!
Sending love and light!
Namaste Andre :-)))))))))))
Aloha back to you!
Jenna

Yes thank Jenna got you PM much appreciated as well.

Great that the speed got up high most likely it is the Adsense that caused most of the speed issues in this case.

I don't use them anymore as I did initially have speed issue before and that was before WA created all these boosts to our website.

I am sure you will resolve many further issues but that is a great start already. Well done.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and you know where to find me

SendIng LOVE and LIght to you

May you continue to shine in the light and have an awesome weekend

Namaste Jenna

aloha back to you as well

Hi Jenna,

There are a number of things that impact the speed at which your site pages load:

- Hosting:

The quality of the hosting your site is on has the biggest impact on the speed with which the site pages load. Hosting is the foundation on which every site is built, and it will play a huge part in defining page load speed, security, stability and consistency.

- Your theme

After hosting, your theme probably has the biggest impact. This is because the quality of the coding in your theme will define how quickly the browser is able to parse and render it. The coding of your theme also has a major impact on the SEO effectiveness of your site, because it impacts how easily the search engine crawlers are able to access and index your content.

- The number of resources you're loading from other servers

The number of resources your page is calling (defined as HTTP requests) is driven by your theme and plugins, but also by the number of external resources you manually place on your site. Examples are tracking code snippets, Amazon ads, other ads, and any other scripts where you're loading the content from *their* server not yours. Wherever possible, load stuff from your server. Where you're loading JavaScript tracking tags they should be asynchronous (Google Analytics/Search Console tags are asynchronous)

- Images that are not optimised

This is a well known drag on speed and you should always make sure your images are optimised as far as possible to the smallest file size, but consistent with an acceptable quality.

- The quality of the plugins you're using

Contrary to popular opinion, the *quality* of the plugins you use has more impact on page load speed than the number of plugins on your site. While you should always keep the number of plugins as low as possible, and remove any that you're not using, be sure to use well coded plugins.

If you take each of those areas in turn, and optimise them as far as possible, you will speed up your page load times. There are no silver bullets, I'm afraid - you just need to work through the process. You also need to keep an eye out, because as you change things on your site over time you can start impacting page load speed.

Let me know if I need to clarify anything,

Cheers,

Martin.

Big Mahalo, Martin for the AWESOME information!!

Hosting should be fine. The speed tool is on.
The theme could be an issue.
I don't use so much resources from other servers, here and there a Youtube video, links and affiliate links.
I'm working on my images.
Plug ins should be fine. I followed Trish's advice and erased three of them. I have nine plug ins running, which are recommended in training, or by other experienced guys here. The quality should be fine.

So will go step-by-step through this jungle.
Thank you for your support and I will let you know!

Have an awesome weekend!
Aloha, Jenna

Hi Jenna, I think your processes of screening out the root cause is great.

I'd like to add that some themes are not well coded, or not optimized for speed. If after going through your processes you still have the issue, you probably need to ask someone who has more experience to look into the codes in the theme. In the live training sessions, Jay mentioned he always look into some reviews and the codes before selecting themes.

Another possible cause is the compatibility of the plugins. You can try deactivating one at a time to see if that improves the speed.

Hope this helps.

Hugh

Thank you very much, Hugh for your opinion!!! I didn't include the theme yet.
I see the point!!
Thank you very much for your support!!
Have an awesome weekend!
Aloha, Jenna
