Pearl Harbor--December 7, 1941

Hello everyone. I was not alive when this tragic event occurred, but it has always intrigued me since I am a history buff of sorts,

This sneak attack by the Empire of Japan on the United States Navy's Battleship row in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, exacted a high cost in American lives, and was the driving factor for the US to enter World War 2.

We should never forget the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation in World War II.

There are several theories about why this happened, but we won't discuss those here! This is simply a tribute to the men and women who died in this attack.

Let's give them a moment of silence in honor of their sacrifices so that we might be Free!

Thanks for your time!

Jeff🙏

I have mentioned this here before, but paradoxically I owe my life to Pearl Harbor. When it happened, my father knew he would be going to fight. He and my mother decided to try to start a baby, in case he didn't come back. I was born 9 months and 2 weeks after Pearl Harbor. (And my father was lucky enough to come back after fighting.)

I have always loved this story about you, Rosana! Everything worked out well, in the end!

Jeff

Jeff,
We shall never forget what happened on that terrible tragic day. World WW1, WW2, on both occasions the USA came to the rescue!
I am not an American citizen, but I greatly admire the USA and its people for being at the forefront of Western Civilization.
May all the brave people of that remarkable generation be remembered with respect and thanks.
Many thanks for the above posting and for reminding us how privileged we are.

Here we all are enjoying the hard-fought-for freedom and absolute privilege to participate in the most outstanding online free market enterprise known to the human race... WA!

Take care................ Johan.

Thank you for the kind words, Johan! They were the Greatest Generation!

We are very lucky to all be joined here in WA for sure!

Hi Jeff,
We will remember all those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbour, a tragedy that shocked the world and changed the course of World War II. Japanese forces killed more than 2,400 people on that day. It was a devastating loss of life, and a stark reminder of the horrors of war. But amidst the devastation, there were stories of incredible courage as well as sacrifice. Soldiers risked their own lives to protect their comrades, and civilians rushed to help the wounded. It was an act of bravery that will never be forgotten. We will remember all those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbour and honour their courage and sacrifice. While we cannot bring back those who were lost, we can honour their memory and strive to make the world a better place.

But in saying this, look at the world today. PEOPLE NEVER LEARN!

That was an awesome tribute, Brian! Sadly, I agree with you--People never learn!

Jeff😪

Fact of life, which I don`t think will ever change. So sad things have to come to this.

It is very sad, indeed, Brian!

When my wife and I first visited Hawaii in 1981, we took a tour of that memorial. It was somber and thought-provoking. Kinda eerie seeing the funnels of the ship just underwater. All the names of the servicemen who sacrificed their lives were inscribed on that memorial wall.

Great job Jeff in writing this piece omn the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

Edwin

I still would like to get to that memorial one day, Edwin! I'll bet that was somber and solemn!

Jeff🙏

Jeff, I wasn't thought of until after that happened either, but boy did my granny live it/re-live it most of her life. She was a Rosey the riveter during that time and hated the Japanese. I grew up hearing the slur, lousy "Japs" from her all the time.

So sad to live that way but I wasn't around then to have an experienced opinion. We treated Japanese Americans pretty poorly after that. Those were certainly different times and now they are our number one Asian ally. Go figgyah.

With my wife being Chinese, I am sure she is rolling in her grave.

Those were definitely different times, David! Of course, I was always opposed to the US putting Japanese Americans into those interrment camps! That is a black mark on us, in my opinion!
