I would appreciate any help in going about fixing crawl errors in webmaster tools. I have a lot of 404's

Jeff

Hi all, I have a problem with Error 404 with some of my pages. I finally manage to be on page one : it's the one which has the problem. Can someone help me please?

Hi Jackie, this might be able to help you... found it for you: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/neil-little/blog/what-do-you-do-about-404-errors

Thank you Jenn will try tonight..

Anytime, Jackie. Just buzz me anytime. ;)

you could use a 404 redirect plug in in the meantime- which will put up something like "we are sorry that we cannot find the page you are looking for some of these might interest you" or some such..Andy

Hi

Thank so much for your reply. I will go with your suggestion

Jeff

Hi Andy, How do you do this? to redirect plug? Thanks

Hi Jeff, 404s mean that your pages/posts are not being found by the search engines. This happens because those pages have been either deleted or the URLs have changed. If you can provide a bit more information in line with the above, we can proceed from there.

Hi

Sincere thanks for your kind reply. I will go with the re-direct plugin as per nomda ploom's reply

I need to sell some domains, some with content and some with none. Also most have good age on them.

Any help would be deeply appreciated

Jeff

Have you checked out Flippa?

Yes - I did.

Jeff

Meant to also ask, what is the best way to initially value a domain to see if it's worth selling, without spending money on a valuation report.

Thank kindly for the information

Jeff

This article has a great foundation on how to go about it

I like how to links, I also regularly tap up wikihow and Yahoo answers on this kind of enquiry, good luck Jeff..

I just need clarification on a couple of questions as I used to buy backlinks etc.

a) What backlinks are the best over time

b) Is internal links still important

<

you can get plugins to do internal inking on the fly..back-links, avoid spammy bought ones...you used to be able to get links to pages/articles from link farms and be OK, but that seems like an age ago...similarly buying links, views and likes to videos and then passing some of the love to your pages will, I am sure go the same way. Read recently that well over 50% of all internet activity is from Bots. They walk among us. Don't poke them with a stick if you can help it. The best links are from people and sites in the same field/niche, and are genuine. They can be found from forums, articles, press releases (which you create) and more.

Hi nomda ploom

With regards to the point about Bots. Never knew this. Does that mean the more you post,, then the bots will visit your site much more

Jeff

no, just that they will find you out by and by..a ping list is a simple way to make content aggregators and search engines aware that you have some new content, but to tell the truth, rather than agonising about minute aspects it is better to get with simply creating great appropriately optimized content

Hey Jeff,
Since the latest Google update, we have learned that external backlinks from other sites are not as important as they used to be. They won't necessarily hurt but they probably aren't going to help much. So buying backlinks is probably a waste of money.

As autumn has stated, internal backlinks are really something you want to incorporate because it gives your readers more information which serves to keep them engaged and on your website.

Best Regards,

Hi Techhound

Thanks for the important point regarding Internal backlinks

Jeff

I think that internal linking throughout your site is very important because it shows that your content is related and it also helps keep visitors engaged longer on your site. In regards to backlinks, buying them by the thousands def. does not help you anymore but backlinks from related sites or well ranked authority sites can still help give your website some ranking juice.
I know a number of people who regularly visit blogs/sites related to their niche and leave comments that link back to their site. Keep in mind though that your comments on other websites should be quality comments that actually show you read the material or people may not approve the comment because it will look like you are simply trying to get backlinks.

I would appreciate advice on how one picks great titles for articles. I know that it's adviseable to keep the competition under 300. But I would like the structure and path on

I have a youtube video review at No 10 on page 1. What's the best way to get it up to 3. Deeply appreciated for any help Jeff

Kyle - Just to clarify, what is the best way to rank a video for the long term. As you have mentioned, link from your website and I presume from a street articles article.

You could get incoming links going to it from an authority site, but the best thing you can do is target low competition search terms with the title the same way you do content.

This is the best approach to get any type of content the maximal exposure and there is no sense focusing too much on ranking one video, you will end up wasting a considerable amount of time that could be dedicated to creating and ranking many more videos.

Thank you for all your valued replies

Sorry, didn't realize backlinks hurt now. I was just giving suggestions from a video tutorial on posting a video on youtube. I ranked a video using that information to do it, so I figured the backlinking was helping. It probably had a lot more to do with the fact that I ranked for a keyword that wasn't all that competitive. Another thing that helps is knowing whether or not the term you're ranking for has a lot of competition. If you are targeting long tail keywords then you should be fine. With time you'll naturally rank well if you develop a presence with youtube.

I can't seem to reply directly jeff2011, forgive me - I did join this site today though. :)

A tip, in your video description, at the end, add your video title followed by the video URL. This is because, as blogs and websites crawl the internet, they will copy the video description too. So, having a link to the video will help Google ranking a bit.

I cannot help with backlinking methods as I have yet to backlink myself. (I'm new at this myself.) I know some people that create review articles and such linking to their YouTube URL. They say it helps ranking. There's a lot of information if you Google it though.

Sorry for not being much help. Good luck.

Yeah, get backlinks if you haven't already. You may be competing against sites that have more backlinks or just more of an established presence on the search engines for whatever keyword you are targeting in your review. Maybe add more content in your description of the video if you don't already have a lot. I've noticed putting the title as the first thing in the description of a youtube video helps it rank a bit. Having a bunch of videos that relate to the same subject matter might also boost your ratings up.

A general or mass backlinking campaign will actually work against you these days, so if you are still implementing backlinking techniques these days, they will do more harm than good. I recommend that you link to your video from your site, but video rankings tend tok be a result of your pull within your YT channel along with the choice in title and description as you mention.

BTW, great to have you here Malik. :)

Backlinking helps I think. Create more blogs/articles and embed your videos. I'm no guru, mind.

Thank for the replies. Can you tell me the best way to get backlinks for videos
