How to Get Paid on YouTube

There are different ways of making money online, of which YouTube is one. YouTubers can make extra income from the platform through a variety of methods. In this piece, I’ll show you how to get paid on YouTube.

Starting and growing a YouTube channel is the first approach towards earning on YouTube. And with consistency and hard work, you can grow your channel to an enviable height.

YouTube offers a variety of opportunities to earn, which include Paid Promotion, the YouTube partner program, and Monetizing Ads. We’ll discuss these methods in a bit, but you need to be familiarized with the potential of being a YouTuber.

How Much Do YouTubers Earn?

YouTube has lots of earning potentials, and there is no cap on how much a YouTuber can earn. More so, your revenue on YouTube has nothing to do with age or gender.

Did you know that the highest earner on YouTube between June 1, 2019, to June 1, 2020, was a 9-year old? Ryan Kaji had over 12 billion views on his videos, and he raked in over $29 million in 2020.

His channel has over 40 million subscribers; it mostly features DIY science experiments with some toys review.

Jimmy Donaldson is another guy with huge YouTube earnings. He’s typically known as MrBeast. He made $24 million with more than 47 million subscribers and over 3 billion views. He’s the second-highest earner on YouTube after Ryan Kaji.

Though the two YouTube’s highest earners represent a tiny minority, there are a lot of YouTubers that are moderately successful. So you too can make extra money with this Google platform (YouTube).

Choosing a Niche

This is the first step you need to consider if you want to monetize your channel. No doubts, not all niches perform the same. Some are more profitable than others. For example, some of the highly profitable genres include; gaming, humor or pranks, life hacks, how-to, and tutorials.

Others include kitchen tips, product unboxing (mostly kid’s toys), and food reviews. A list of some of the top genres includes celebrity gossips, videos, and animals.

While it’s good to focus on lucrative genres, also note that some of them are oversaturated. Avoid the oversaturated genres and look into those that do not have many competitions.

How to Earn From YouTube

YouTubers can make money from YouTube in several ways, such as YouTube partner programs and ad views. You need to have an insight into how these earning methods work to maximize earnings.

How to Make Money from Ad Views

The Ad Views program includes the CPM (Cost per thousand views) and the CPC (Cost per Click).

CPM Ads: The viewer must watch it for at least 30 seconds or half of the ad for short videos.

While the CPC ads require the viewer to click on the ad, skipped ads by viewers do not count, so it doesn’t receive any payment.

You can also open an AdSense account immediately after you start your channel. The minimum payout is $100. This means you won’t get paid until you reach the minimum payout. It can be challenging, especially for a newbie.

YouTube Partner Program

We’ve talked about ad view as a method of making money from YouTube. Another way of earning money with your YouTube channel is through the YouTube partner program.

This program gives YouTubers access to additional opportunities to make money once they are eligible. To be eligible for the YouTube partner program, your channel must meet the following criteria:

  • Have over 1,000 subscribers
  • Attain more than 4,000 valid watch hours for the past year (only public watch count; private and deleted videos don’t)
  • Adhere strictly to YouTube’s monetization policies
  • Be domiciled in a country where the YouTube partner program is existing
  • Have an AdSense account.

If a channel meets the above criteria, it would be further reviewed to check if it meets other additional policies.

Once you are accepted into the program, your channel doesn’t have to continue to meet the criteria every year.

Being part of the YouTube partner program gives you access to start earning from different features. Each feature has its distinct criteria, and subscribers count.

YouTubers on the YouTube partner program make money from:

  • Sales of branded items through merch shelf
  • Advertising income
  • Fans that paid for their message to be featured with super sticker and super chat
  • Channel membership subscription for perks
  • Videos watched by YouTube paid subscribers

Additional Ways to Earn From YouTube

YouTube has more earning opportunities beyond the methods that were discussed above.

Selling a Product/Service

Online business owners with a product or service to sell can use YouTube to market their business. With YouTube, you can promote your brand and refer potential buyers to your site. You can upload some helpful videos like tutorials and Q&A with links to your business site.

Paid Promotions

You can harness paid promotions such as sponsorship, product placements, endorsement, etc., to generate more income.

Some niches like the how-to-tutorials or review-type channel are fertile ground for paid promotions; for instance, affiliate marketing!

You can secure paid promotions by reaching out to brands with your proposal. You can also be approached by big brands if your channel becomes popular enough.

It is worthy of mentioning that YouTube shows a disclosure note on videos that have paid promotions. YouTubers and the business owners are solely responsible for any legal and local obligations.

In-Person Events

This earning method is ideal for channels with high engagement levels. A YouTuber with such a channel can make more revenue by selling tickets for in-person events.

Such events mostly involve live recordings or tours. A brand can boost its awareness and also experience an increase in sales by subscribing to this service.

Popular YouTubers can also sell branded merch, autographs, etc., and attend the convention to earn more.

Direct Support

Popular channels that have a dedicated fan base can thrive on crowdfunding sites. For instance, Kickstarter and GoFundMe make sense for a one-time project. Ko-Fi and Patreon, on the other hand, are good options for ongoing support. Funds can be contributed on a one-off or recurring basis to support a cause.

Conclusion

Making money on YouTube doesn’t come easy, especially for beginners because of the few subscribers they have. But with patience and dedication, you will grow your channel and key into the financial benefits of being a YouTuber.

That's it for today! My beloved WA family. I hope you'll like this post. I know most of you are there already on YouTube. But newbies like me and other newcomers here in Wealthy Affiliate might help them.

Do You Have " Bad or Good " Experiences on YOUTUBE? would you like to share it here so others will know it and be aware...

I Love You All,

Thanks,

Joyce

Great Info! I have started my YouTube and I enjoy it immensely!
It was a hard work for me as I had to teach myself how to use an editing program. Reviewed 3 programs and decided on Shotcut. I am still learning the program. Also a great opportunity for improvement in doing it.

Cheers,
Evelyn

Thank you so much, Evelyn!
For your kind and sharing your experience on youtube. Yes, many of you here are enjoying there already; that's great news. Me, I am starting but many to prepare and the topic.

Thank you so much for your time and for stopping by. I appreciate you very much.

Kind regards,
Joyce

Evelyn,

I have decided on ShotCut also.

While still learning, it does seem to be easy to use and also provides a lot of room as I develop.

Wishing you the best.

Cassi

Yes, Cassi, it is easy to use and I really like it. Do you use a separate device to save your video files? I had to move some of my previous clips to a thumb drive because it is taking so much memory space on my laptop?

I know I will have to do that eventually, Evelyn.

For now, I am using my:

- cellphone to capture videos,
- Blue microphone for voice recording,
- Canva to create Thumbnails and notation boards,
- ShotCut to edit and,
- OBS (just started today) to quickly bring it all together.

It's fun!

Cassi

Hi Jeff,
I have been watching what You Tubers do for the past months. It helped me decide how I will do my YT channel. So basically, I wanted to help my audience with information, at the same time advertise my website. I bought a 4K Ultra HD 3840x2160. I really don’t know what the numbers mean but it does the job! It has remote control which is so convenient to use. I create my script and do bullets as my talking points. I used canva to do the intro and the end part. Canva is a great tool! So really think of what you want to be your niche. I learned everything from YouTube. I learned how to add music with the intro and end of my video. I have to improve my speaking skills and learn more about shortcut editing.

I hope the above helped you. Everything you can think of is on YT.

Cheers,
Evelyn

Thank you, Cassi. I am so used to using my laptop, so I basically use it for articles and laying out on WordPress. I use my iphone sometimes to start an article. The phone is so great for podcasting!

Thank you, Cassi! :-)

Thank you, Evelyn! :-)

Thank you, Jeff! :-)

Excellent article, Joyce, as I'm still getting started and trying to figure out which direction to go with YouTube. It's good to see the different ways of monetizing on Youtube, although I must confess that I'm at the top of the list of viewers who quickly click on the "Skip Ad" button whenever I'm only interested in simply watching a Video.

Appreciate the post!
Isaiah 😊

Thank you, Isaiah!
I'm glad you're there already, and more good luck!
Thanks for reading and for stopping by.
All the best and Be Blessed!
Thanks,
Joyce

Thanks Joyce. I love reading your posts because it is very obvious that you put a ton of research into your posts and you sharing it saves any WA lots of the research time (that most would never do). So thanks.

I expect you to make lots of money on YouTube soon also!!!

Thank you so much for reading them, friend, Steve!
I also discovered many things, ideas that possible to do shortly on YouTube. And it is worth sharing them here in WA; so many newbies like me to benefit from it. Time only is too tight; I can not do or have them all in one move.

Hehe, I wish to earn from that soon, my friend. At least there is the list ready to be followed when the time comes.

Thank you so much for your precious time and for stopping by.

Kind regards,
Joyce

My 'precious time' is always well spent reading your posts! It save my time researching it on my own. You're awesome and the WA is blessed to have you as a main part of its members!

Be blessed!

Hello my friend, Steve!

Thanks for all the kind words, my friend.
I love to share what I have to help my beloved WA family. And I'm happy about doing that, my friend.

Rain or shine, you're there for me; I didn't forget that.
Thank you also for standing by when time gets hard, and thanks for making me laugh when I didn't even want to smile; remember those days? I didn't forget that too. Thank you so very much!

I wish you all the best always and Be Blessed!
Kind regards,

Joyce

You say I'm there for you rain or shine... well since I live in Montana USA you have to add snow. But yes... I am here any time if you need anything. So glad to be your friend.
Steve

Aww, lovely! Ok, I add snow, Steve. Look, my friends here in WA are living in a different part of the world! Montana USA, You're just on the right side, and I'm on the left side of the world map. I'm happy about that. I like snow but can't be stayed long, but it's ok.

Thank you, my friend, Steve! I'm so glad to be your friend, too, the same with you. I am just here for you, my friend; anytime you need someone to talk to, I'm here to listen. I'm also glad to be connected with you at WA.

Thank you so much, and Be Blessed!
Your friend,
Joyce
