It's Almost Easter!

Hi my WA friends,

Yes. It's almost Easter. It's hard to believe, isn't it? It was just spitting some snow this morning in PA and isn't very warm at 37% F. At least Easter is a little later this year. It falls on Sunday, April 16th.

I changed my tree decorations from my Saint Patrick's Day Tree to my Easter Tree today. :)

If you would like to know more about my year round tree decorations, here is a link to a post I wrote about it.

What does Easter mean for you? Here are my thoughts.

First: I think of the sacrifice of Christ as payment for our sins; and His resurrection that we celebrate on Easter Sunday. Such love! To give up His perfect, sinless life, and suffer the brutal punishment in place of a sinner such as me. The sacrifice to end all sacrifices! This, to me, is the real reason to celebrate Easter.

Jesus Saves!

Second: I think of new life. Spring is the season of new growth. The grass is starting to return to green. The trees are sporting new green leaves in place of bare branches. The bulbs are pushing new shoots through the ground, after the long hard winter. The crocuses, daffodils, and hyacinths are starting to bloom. And new life reminds me again of the true reason for celebration. I think of the new life that Christ promises if we believe.

Third I think of family, Easter baskets, colored eggs, bows and ribbons, Easter bunnies, little yellow chicks and ducklings (The candy, I try not to think about; lest I should want some)

Easter used to be a time when everyone dressed up and went to church (even if they didn't go any other time of the year, except Christmas) I think our culture is moving away from this in the last few years. Sadly I fear they are moving away from the teachings in the Bible also.

What are your thoughts on Easter, and how do you celebrate? I would like to understand how it is celebrated in other countries, or any thoughts you might like to share.

I hope you have an awesome weekend and a very Happy Easter!

Jeannie

Happy Easter Jeannie! I will spend the time with my kids and grand kids so it will be all of us together!

Aaahhh. That sounds really nice Keith. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Hi Jean, I amtraveling back to Ireland next Tuesday for Easter. Looking forward to spending time with family and friends. Irv.

Wow! That's wonderful Irv. I hope you write a post. If you do; please pm me with the link because I have my notifications by email shut off. Sounds like a wonderful time. Have fun and relax. :)

Happy Easter, Jeannie.

Thank you Roger. Thanks for reading and commenting. :)

You're welcome, Jeannie.

We celebrate it first by having a family breakfast Italian style with all kinds of frittata's, pan dulce and different juices. Mind you there are about 15-20 to start. We give thanks and we start to have breakfast The spaghetti sauce already has been cooking since early morning.
We then have an awesome Easter egg hunt for all the kids. In the meantime some of us start are starting to roll the gnocchi ( all is home made). During this time more family shows up for dinner. We celebrate offering our gathering to our Savior who has allowed us to be together as a family along praying for those no longer with us. It's really beautiful to just see all the children enjoy themselves with each other some of them don't really get to see each other 2 or 3 times a year. We definitely look forward for all of these moments. They are moments of many memories.

Sounds like a wonderful family celebration. And the food sounds delicious. Thank you so much for such a lovely comment. Happy Easter! :)

Thank you so much for this absolutely beautiful post Jeannie. Easter is indeed a very special time for my family although my boys are all grown now. We still do put up a little Easter tree but not much else. Haven't been blessed yet with grandkids but we still have faith in the boys. Incidentally, I was in your neck of the woods last year around a July. My wife is from Williamsport and we spent 3 weeks visiting with family. Had a great time..

P.S. Really liked the link

Jerome

Thanks for reading and commenting Jerome. Yes, family is important. Being a grandparent is the greatest. You will love it. Wow. Williamsport is not that far from where I live. Small world. :)

We still have Easter candy and egg hunts for the grand kids now. Easter is greater that Christmas. His accomplished Victory as opposed to entry. The fulfillment of mission that brings permanent hope!

Thanks Mike. I don't have anything against Easter egg hunts or family fun stuff. I just want to remember why we are celebrating. Good points you made. We make more of him as a baby than the final victory in the resurrection. Happy Easter!

The best feelings to you jean in this season of resurrection1

Thanks Mike. Maybe we should say Happy Resurrection instead of Happy Easter?
