Honor Your Mother

Exodus 20:12 - Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

It's almost Mother's Day. What better time to honor the one who brought you into the world, nurtured you, and taught you how to be you.

If your mother is still alive; show her you love her. She would love a card, flowers, or if she has a sweet tooth, maybe a box of candy. At least call her and tell her Happy Mother's Day, and that you love her.

My mother is in Heaven and I can't do any of those things. Do them while you still have your mother. She won't always be here.

I have been thinking about my mother these last couple weeks before Mother's Day. I wrote her a poem and a song. I sang the song in church on Sunday. It is called, "Happy Mother's Day in Heaven".

I would like to share the poem with you.

My Mother Still Lives

My mother still lives
In my heart and my mind.
She's not forgotten.
I think of her much of the time.

She lives in the photographs
That hang on my wall;
And in the remembrances
I kept, after all.

She lives in the perennials
Grown from bulbs from her bed.
And in the sweet memories
That dance in my head.

She lives in the faces
Of all of her kin.
A certain look, or a smile
And the memories creep in.

9 month old Isabella visits the great, great grandparents she never got to meet.

She lives in my words;
For she said them before.
I repeat them from habit,
And she's at the core.

She lives in virtually
All that I do;
In my thoughts, my experiences,
And in my dreams, too.

Someday I'll join her
In her home in the sky.
What a great reunion
In the sweet by and by!

Until then, I'll settle
For reminders, it's true.
But you still live, Dear Mother
For I'm part of you!

Very touching poem. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thank you so much Eric. My pleasure.

Very beautiful post, Jeannie, thank you, great reminder, my mother is her in 70s, I need to give her many hugs, she is precious!:)

Thank you sweet sparkling Jewel. Give her one for me too. :)

What a beautiful sentiment, Jean. My mother is also in heaven, and I plan to pray and visit her burial. Thank you for this gem!

Thank you Kaju, for such a lovely reply. They still live in our hearts. Wish you could hear the song. Jeannie

Thanks you, this is a very heartwarming ode to all mothers in the sky, my mother is still around and will become 90, hopefully. A mother's departure is always too soon.

Thank you Loes. I'm glad you still have your mother. Treat her good this Mother's Day and give her a hug from me too. :) Jeannie

I don't need a mothers day for that:) I have daily contact and visit every week:))

Wonderful!!

That is beautiful! Your Mom is beaming, I am certain of that.

Thank you Susan. I miss her. :)

A beautiful post. Jeannie. Mine lived to the good age of 96 and was smiling to the moment of departure!

Thanks Mike. Mine lived to be 97; but she had dementia and had lost most of her hearing and sight. I had a bad time with this post too. I think I might quit putting pictures in. I wish there were a way for us to manually save our draft. I lost most of it twice. I'm thinking maybe it has to do with my Windows Vista that I haven't replaced yet. :( Jeannie

This is so cute, nice to see this kind of post! and you're right we need to keep in mind that our mothers are going to be with us in every moment. In our heart even if they are not alive, we should appreciate the moment we have in earth with them. Because without them we will not the person we are nowadays! :)

Thanks for reading and commenting. Yes. I miss my mother and dad. It isn't the same without them. Jeannie

I know is hard can't image how life is without your parents. But their souls are with you in every moment :)

Thanks. You are right. :)
