Use these tools above to submit your URLs to Google and Yahoo/Bing

Of course, the request indexing is there which eventually does the same thing as submit URL...

Thank you David.

I agree with JeannineC, don't change the URL. There are some training courses here about updating old content. I hope this helps.

Thank you Steve.

I wouldn't change the permalink, but anything else can be changed. Google usually looks at this like you are updating the content, and they like updated content.

Thank you

Hello, here we are again at an instance that I am having to ask a question that will probably be covered at a later training level, however I am forced to figure this out now,

Don't touch the CSS file. Changing things in there without being sure what you're doing can turn the looks of your site into a mess.

thanks for the helpful tip

Hi Cam!
You are confusing a few things there.
That's your CSS file...

The easiest way to do this is to install the header & footer plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/insert-headers-and-footers/

Use that to paste the code in there (footer).
That way if the theme is updated, you wouldn't lose the modifications.

David

Thanks bud, David to the rescue! one thing tho, should I worry about those exclamation points in my CSS file?

minor errors but I wouldn't worry about this. Just recommendations for doing it better.

If you would be so kind as to answer this.
i have the latest version of WordPress 4.9.1 I think it is.

The plugin you recommended says up to 4.8.4.
Should I use it?

Yes. There should be no problem. it's usually just the readme file that wasn't updated.
Create a test environment for your site going forward for testing before second guessing with your production site.

Use a siterubix domain with your same theme etc.
David

good idea, I didn't think of this, thank you

I typed setting up a test environment in the search box and not much is available, this may be a good training for you to create. anyway can you please let me know some MUST DO things when doing this? I get the basic Idea but is there anything I should be sure to do to hide the site from the web and also do I need to post all my same articles or can I just post the one article I need to test links on, also If I wanted to use this test site for testing another website, would I just erase all content and then install the theme?
Any information for me?

after a little more patient searching and altering the phrase I found this. In my humble opinion, this information should be covered early on in the 1st stage of training. I switched themes multiple times, installed, reinstalled, messed with stuff. It may seem like a obvious thing, but it never occurred to me to do this until DEversley mentioned it. Thanks David

some of us like to learn and learn more by experimenting and this is a very good way to mess around with things without breaking all your hard work.

I'm thinking about skipping adding these links for now, maybe I am getting in over my head at the moment.

You are getting confused. Forget rhe test environment for now. I had only suggested that as a future project for testing plugins etc.
Usually it's just a dummy site. You wouldn't put any valid articles in there. Why would you want to? There is a lot dummy text around or you could just create a post and type anything if you wanted to.

Getting back to your original question...
Have you installed the header and footer plugin and pasted the code for Apple affiliate program?

No sir, I got side tracked looking for information about creating a test site, I really like that Idea of having a wreck site. But I will go ahead and install the plugin and paste the code from apple.

Could someone please explain or link me to training on the difference between these 4 links.

Main link

Premium promo

Create account

siterubix

Hello Cam,

Right click on each of them and then choose "Open in an Incognito Window" my Friend and you will see the difference. If the right click doesn't give you the "Open in an Incognito Window" choice then choose "Copy" and then paste each link into an "Incognito" window Cam.

Let me know if this helps you to see the difference my Friend,

Tony

Hi, the main link takes your customer to the main sign-up page, the premium promo link takes your customer to the promotional page which offers them the discount on their membership. The create account link speaks for itself! The site rubix link takes your customer to the 'build your own website with site rubix page.

You can use any or all of those links in your promotions.

I hope this helps?

Merry Christmas : )

Maybe I am missing something or misunderstanding but I thought that previously, when visiting my site it had the green lock logo. Now it doesn't. It just has an info button and

Try whynopadlock.com
You will get a pretty accurate report of what's wrong

The biggest cause of the dreaded "Red Stripe" that I have seen is that the header file is calling a google font over http rather than https.

Use an ftp client to locate your header file and check for a google font being called over http. If it's there, just edit the google font call to use https.

Thanks for the reply Chris, Site support got me lined out and I'm back to secure now.

Please check this training

Ok thank you. I will look at it and if I have any more questions I will post here.

You're most welcome:)

When researching keywords it is most wise to search questions and then provide the answer. I am finding that a lot of the questions I am searching are missing a preposition. Th

Yes you would - providing your result is relevant to what the user is searching it will show up, it doesn’t have to be an exact match.

Always make sure your posts make make sense to visitors, don’t add nonsense keywords for the sake of ranking as this will have an adverse effect (its what’s known as ‘keyword stuffing’ and search engines are wise to those tricks).

Thanks for the informative answer Dale, I agree with you also about key word stuffing. In the past, before I knew anything about this I have read some articles that were obviously doing that and it left a bad taste in my mouth reading their article, and I'm pretty sure that I didn't read it all the way through.

I am curious about one thing though, some articles I have read were very well written but at the bottom of the post were a bunch of keywords that were stuffed into one paragraph that made no sense, it was just keywords. Is this frowned upon as well or is this legitimate?

If to describe it you need to include the 2 words "keywords" and "stuffed" the chances are it's a dodgy tactic ;)

It was possibly what's known as a "tag cloud". This was a functionality of WordPress (possibly still is) through which you could add a widget which would list your most frequently used post tags in a "cloud" format. I'd avoid using it.

If it doesn't add value or help the visitor, don't bother. Never build a site with search engines as the main focus - build it with the user in mind instead. These days search engines are clever enough to understand things more as a human than a robot & genuine engagement is one of the biggest factors contributing towards your rankings :)

Thank you Dale.
