Habits to avoid when writing your posts

Hey guys.

I just wanted to put together a few tips on avoiding certain habits when creating your posts. I myself am guilty of these traits and since I started to avoid them I have manged to create better content.

  1. Do all of your keyword research before you start your post. Don't be constantly flicking forward and back to Jaaxy trying to squeeze in a few extra keywords. This can lead to messy posts with more emphasis on the keywords rather than the vital content.
  2. Leave your images until the end, don't start looking for images or media as you feel you have found a relevant place to put them, this can distract you from your writing and can waste time also. You can also have these found before you write your post but never during.
  3. The same applies for affiliate links. Don't go looking for product links or start creating widgets until you are finished the post.
  4. Always proof read twice, a great tip is to do this before you get images and links and then again before you are ready to publish.
  5. Don't worry about font color, bold print, paragraph size to much until you finish writing. If you know what you want, fair enough go add it, but don't spend too long thinking about these things while writing you can always edit later.
  6. Don't write when you know there is going to be constant distraction, don't rush and don't write when you are too tired. You need a clear focused mind to create the best content. The content you will write may turn out ok with these stresses but will be far less valuable than when you are alert and focused.

So here is my guide to write a great post. Firstly have a clear mind and be in a place where you are not going to be constantly distracted. Then in this order do your post: Get your keywords, do all your writing, proof read, add your text only affiliate links, edit everything, add your images/media/tables, add the rest of your affiliate links/ widgets, add your Google adsense if needed, proof read again, look at preview, do your final fix then publish.

And don't be afraid to ask for feedback on your post here at WA.

This is my guide. If you want to add anything or have any questions feel free to leave a comment.

Jason :)

This sounds like a good flow. Definitely better to focus on one thing at a time. Thankfully I haven't fallen into any of the bad habits so far and now I've got a good framework to go by so I can continue that way - thanks for the post!

Your welcome. You are blessed you have none of these habits yet.

I would only add that after you think you're done, walk away and do something else before you come back, reread and post.

I agree it's good to get some distance away from it - you're more likely to spot mistakes when you return than if you go over it again straight away

Very true, I tend to go out to live chat or read around a few blogs or trainings before I go back to check.

Very clear and direct Jason, great post!

Thanks Ben.

Your welcome Jean :)

Good advice. Thank you.

Your welcome :)

Great info! I needed that for a reference.

Thank you, I'm so glad I could help :)

Great tips to follow, I do pretty much all of those with the exception of keywords...they mess me up with my writing so I add last and implement the changes with what I have already written down. Thanks for sharing. :))

Thanks. I feel a post should be built around a keyword, so many of us here tend to do the opposite.
