Stand Out From The Crowd - Be The Expert Teach
Maybe it’s the “old teacher” in me but I see distinct similarity between the online niche/affiliate world and the teaching and learning pedagogies in education.

The process of developing a great profitable and sustainable online business is why we are here. But what makes you different to every other website offering the same ideas and products in your niche?
Are you 1 in 100 or just Number 1?
When we start online and research our niche we quickly see there are hundreds and thousands of other competitors out there in our niche. No matter how narrow we define our niche there will still be hundreds of competitors. So what is going to make people find you, like you, follow you and buy from you? What will make you Number 1…rather than just another number.
Education….
If you look at the most successful niche or affiliate marketing websites they have 1 key thing in common.
They educate!
The best websites, the best affiliate sites, the most successful online businesses spend time offering education and quality content.
When we go online to search for something it is because we need some information. It’s always that we seek to know something we don’t currently know (even if it’s a phone number or address). We go online to get answers…to educate ourselves…we want to know the address, the best price of a product, the best product for a job, the best way to make money, how to build websites, how to use google search console…our online searching time is spent gathering knowledge we don’t already have.
Think of any search you have done recently…was it to find information? Did you want or need to know something?
Be the Expert
What will make you stand out is being the expert.
You are an expert if:
- You know your niche and you love it….your passion will shine through
- You offer depth…I’m talking proper content…content that has depth, detail and specifics…I’m talking OVER 2000 word content. LOOK at the very best and most successful bloggers, affiliate marketers, online businesses – I guarantee nearly ALL their content is OVER 2000 words. This signifies to Google and the world that these guys are experts, they know their stuff and have a lot to share.
- You don’t offer 300 word posts with 10 affiliate links. You will be more successful adding 1 X 2000 post compared to 5 x 300 word posts. 300 words, 400 words, 700 words is NOT enough to give expert knowledge and quality content advice. People will only come back to you and your website if you are offering them quality.
- TEACH – your content MUST be educational….we already know that’s why people are online…they are seeking an answer for a question they have or to gather more information on an interest they have. Make sure every post you publish has meaning and teaches your reader something. Make it quality. Go into detail. Relate it to experiences. Make it real.
- Ensure each post –
- oIntroduces a concept or “learning outcome” – what will your readers know when they finish reading your post. What is it that you want to teach people? BE CLEAR
- oCONNECT your learning – how does your current post and teaching link to what has gone before…how does your new post fit within your website? What links can you make to relate the learning – ALWAYS internally link your content to other posts within your website…this shows you have confidence in your own information…don’t always send the reader outside for the answers.
- oOffer your information in bite size pieces. Link these pieces with real life experiences…people learn and understand better if you contextualise things…when you were at school and your teacher offered new learning how did you understand it…usually by doing it or practicing it…or understanding how the concept fits into the real world. Linking with real life and offering readers your experience confirms your expertise and makes the new concepts much easier to understand and recall.
- oGive opportunities for people to practice and develop their skills…set people a task...give steps and instructions…when they leave your post what will they be able to do or practice or apply …if you have given them a new skill and understanding of a concept they will return to you for more!
- oIf you have just given them basic information, a product, a price and a buy it here…they will leave and go find the information they require elsewhere.
People will follow teachers and leaders and experts. Be an expert. Teach your readers something. Give them depth. Give them detail. Offer quality.
Real life example…I am now writing at least 2500 words per post…and I rank page 1 just about everytime…AND within an hour of posting…rather than a few days or weeks. I am being rewarded by Google for educating and offering depth and quality (modest huh?). My conversions have doubled. My email list has tripled. And my cheques (thank you Amazon) have an extra 0 at the end…
Why am I telling you this? Because I see far too often people posting lots of short superficial content and then wondering why they haven’t made any money. The only way to make money is by placing yourself as the expert and living up to it. If you went to a seminar from your favorite motivational speaker and then he/she stood up and spoke for 3 minutes I think you’d probably find another…but if he/she stands up and speaks for an hour, with anecdotes, evidence, saying, quotes, proof of success then you carry on booking his/her seminars and buying his/her books and following him/her.

I have been researching on and searching the WWW for insight and quality sites in my intended niche. Just as you said, the sites and blogs that caused me to pause, and which felt more trustworthy were those with a desire to impart meaningful knowledge.
I tend to want to share more info rather than less to minimize misunderstandings. You have helped to alleviate some anxiety that I was having about a need to be more lengthy in my content than I thought might be ideal.
Your tip about including a task or two to do, that is tied to the content, really resonates with me. When I am asked to apply the knowledge immediately, it gives me the opportunity to take action while the info is fresh. Thus, my mind/body connection is at its most efficient.
