So I have been working on this for about a day now. I have been trying to upload a pdf to my site. I tried just adding media in WP but I got the HTTP error. Then I tried using

Here is the File Zillla support line! https://filezilla-project.org/support.php

Thanks for this, Michael! I checked some of their forums for answers but haven't contacted their support so that will be my next step

It's probably the file name. Make sure that the name of the file contains only letters and numbers and no spaces or special characters. It's usually punctuation in file names (like an apostrophe) that prevents it being uploaded using Add Media.

I checked the filename and it is only letters with no spaces and I tried uploading it again and still got the HTTP error. I watched your training, as well, and tried everything you suggested and FileZilla still won't connect

I would covert the PDF doc to a text doc and then copy and paste to your post or page. You can Google conversion software if you don't have any. There should be free software available.

I have tried uploading the file as a text doc as well, with no luck :(

With it as a text document, you don't have to upload. Just copy from your PC and paste as text into a page or post on your site.

I believe that negative and positive comments are good. When replying to a negative comment I do it respectfully answering in a way that they would want to re read and take part again in my site. I reply in a way that they will see that what I offer can benefit them despite what they may think. I feel that replying positive (not arguemently)to a negative comment shows other visitors also that you want to help them.
But I believe that here in WA you can choose to disapprove or approve a comment end of the day it is your call.

Thanks Susan! I would be open to posting the comments, even if negative, but it's just clear from their comments that they didn't read my content. Unfortunately I had to disapprove them. I hope I don't have to do that again. Thanks for your advice, though! I agree that negative comments can be good for your site, they just have to be good quality comments :)

If your having doubts dont approve, especially dont approve just becuase you dont want to disaprove. If your gut instinct is saying its not right, then dont approve. That's the reason we have the choice to disaprove. Its your site in the end dont damage any of your hard work just.

Your right. I have disapproved the comments. I just couldn't put them on my site. They were related to the topic of my posts but I could tell that they didn't take the time to actually read my content. Oh well, I hope I have better luck next time. Thanks! :)

I would go with your instinct, we know what's best for our sites.

This is very true. I never follow my instinct, even though most of the times it's right... I won't make that mistake this time :)

When in doubt. Shut it out!

This is a good motto to go by when it comes to Site Comments! Thanks! :)

So I just switched themes for my one site and I love the new theme I chose. It just works so much better for my site and everything about it is great except for one thing... It

There are some free themes that do summaries on front page. Its just the one you have wants you to pay for it on there theme. There is loads play around with a few.

Boston, omega and twenty sixteen are three i know of straight way.

My old theme had the posts as summaries, but I really like the theme I have, lol! I tried twenty sixteen but it just didn't fit my site. I think I am pretty comitted to this theme so I might just pay the $25 for it, or use Marion's training to make a read more tag. I just feel like my theme is so great in every way except this lol! Thanks for the advice! :)

Its ok, anytime. Have a Merry Christmas! :)

Merry Christmas to you, too! Enjoy the day with your family :)

You could just use the read more tag

Awesome training! Thanks so much, Marion! :)

I had no idea that was even there! This is perfect! :)

Keep the theme and get a post shortening(abridging) plugin!

I considered that but I already have 11 plugins running! On my site feedback the other day someone told me my site was running a little sluggish so I don't want to add another plugin. As it is I already have to get rid of some. Thank you for the suggestion, though! :)

Hi,

are you 100% sure that this is really a premium feature?
Did you check all settings?

I would prefer a summary as well, to be honest.
$25 for a premium theme ist not that much, actually.
If you are in for the long run and think that this theme is perfect for you, then I would just get it.

Or keep on looking for other themes.

Cheers
Moritz

I did check and it is just a premium feature :( i like the look of a summary a lot better. I know it's not alot, it's just making a commitment to a theme. I like it alot, but I don't know if I want to be tied to it forever. I like having the flexibility to change themes if I want and not have paid money for one just to not use it. Thanks for the help, though :)

I know exactly how you are feeling.
Felt the same way, before I bought my first premium theme.
It just fit perfectly and I didn't regret my decision. Still using it after over a year.

If you love the theme, go get it. ;)

Wish you all the best. :)
Moritz

Alright I'm going to buy it! The fact that you are still using your theme over a year later definitely helps to make the decision. If I get at least a years use out of it then I will be happy. Thanks :)

So I am looking to buy a new computer and want everyone's take on whether I should get a Mac or a PC? I've been a PC user for so long and am worried about how I would transitio

Just wanted to update everyone on my decision... I got a Mac! Well, actually, my husband bought it for me for Christmas, lol! I have been talking about a new computer for a while now and how I was considering a Mac, and he made the decision for me and bought me an iMac! I guess now I don't have to choose a computer myself. I am just so grateful that he bought it for me in the first place, I would be happy no matter what brand it was :)

:) Merry Christmas. Congrats!

Lol, thanks! I guess no PC after all and I will be learning to use a Mac now, but like I said, I'm just grateful to my husband for a new computer :)

You seem really happy about it and your husband did that for you, so really that's the important thing. The rest is just noise. :)

My mom works from home and can not afford to use a PC because of all of the time lost from viruses and problems. She buys a Mac and never has a problem with it for years and years until it literally wears out and she needs a new one.

That is what appeals to me most about Macs is that they are attacked less often. My husband had a ransomware virus on his pc and lost all his school files so security is definitely a big part of my decision

I would never go to PC - even more since I hear my husband on PC complaining all the time about things I don't have encountered ever. Mac costs more, but is MUCH better

Yes each has their own issues, PCs moreso, I feel, but Macs do cost more, which is their big downfall. Cost is one factor that makes the decision very difficult

I know, but I would always wait, save the money and buy Mac. It is just not worth while to be bothered with so many things.
As an example: I bought electric bikes 4 years ago and didn't want to spend too much money. I have regretted it a lot, as they cost quite a bit, anyway, and they are so limited because the battery takes 8 hours to load. If I had spent 1k more, I would have got a battery which reloads in 1-2 hours. So we could go for a bike ride, have lunch somewhere while loading the batteries and then come home. Now, with the cheaper version, we can go only for a certain distance and always fear to run out of juice. Never try to save money on the wrong place, is my learning.

Apple has a good financing program for their products which I was considering that way I don't have to pay it all up front. That is a good anecdote and it is true you get what you pay for. Cheap PCs are just that... Cheap. I know I have to spend money either way to get something good and worthwhile. Thanks for sharing! :)

Once you go Mac, you never go back!

That's true! I feel that way about my iPhone lol

What would you call a laptop?

I'm not sure I understand your question... Could you elaborate? :)

I have used Macs for years and they are simply the best hands down, no question at all.
The operating system is simple once you get used to it.
It is a very rare occasion you will ever find a problem or fault with a Mac and they are in no way complicated whatsoever.
Save your money and buy one, you will never regret the investment.
Cheers and all the best, Tosh :)

I think I just might. It's just a hard transition going from what you are so accustomed to and switching to something unfamiliar. Honestly, what I will miss most about PCs is the shortcuts. I know that sounds silly but it will be years of muscle memory out the window. I guess I will just have to relearn my keyboard a bit but it's a small price to pay for a better computer and OS

Great news indeed :)
You have one or two options on keyboards with Mac too :)
You will pick it up in no-time at all.
I will never go back to PC, I threw my last one out into the snow, put it that way! Lol
Cheers, Tosh :)

Lol I wish I could throw mine at the wall sometimes! I will have to look into keyboard options and see what fits well for me. Thanks! :)

Don't listen to the negative thinkers, lol
You will never turn back to a PC when you go to Mac :)

That's what everyone tells me, lol!

I know people swear by Macs, but they really aren't the best especially if you're used to a PC. I have to fix other people's Macs occasionally and I can never find anything. Nothing works the same. That's not why they're not the best, but it will be a frustrating problem for you.

I've used both. Macs used to be great for a lot of things that PCs weren't like web design and video editing, but that's not true any more. You're now paying at least 3 times as much for a brand name that when really put to the test provides inferior results. I literally work on computers all day. I have a Mac PC that I bought purely for mobile app design and now collects dust. Everything I do, video editing, web design, gaming, everything that puts a computer to the test I do on PCs.

I could go on all day about why Macs aren't better, but since I met plenty of perfectly nice people on here that unfortunately use them like the comments you already received, I won't pile on. :) Just really do yourself a favor and don't do it.

Good point Numerous, Macs are not good for people that want to edit apps or stuff like that, because it doesn't give you access to much stuff, Mac is more powerful and 200 times more secure than Windows PCs.

Jasmine wants a computer for blogging and studies; Mac is the best, Jay, Kyle and Carson use it too.

It's more expensive, but it's a very good computer.

Good points. I have PC ingrained in me, they are what I have been using my whole life... I don't want to switch but at the same time I want to change. Maybe I should try a new brand? I've been stuck on HP for about 10 years now. I have an ASUS table collecting dust... I might pull that out and see how I like that brand

Now THAT'S a brand, LOL

That depends on the purse, a Mac is the best, but it almost triples the price of a window PC

Yeah Macs are outrageously expensive, but they do have good financing options. I haven't looked into whether or not PCs do... Might be something to check out

MAC is the best, if you can afford a Mac go for it, I currently use a Windows PC, but Macs are the best, some of my friends have it and they are very happy with it.

I have heard so many good things, too. I think I might be ready for a change

I would too.

The one thing about Macs is their price... but at the same time if I got a cheap PC you get what you pay for.. poor quality. Mac is looking better and better

Absolutely :)
