How many keywords, key phrases do you all recommend using for any given post or page?

I learned something

I would say one no more than two...

One only, this is everywhere in lessons.

what tricks do you guys use for your meta descriptions to get people to click on your content??

Im getting some decent impressions over the course of the past 1.5 weeks

If you are getting impressions I would say it isn't your meta data. Your meta description is what appears in Google and gets people to visit the site in the first place.
Do you know things like your bounce rate so you can see how long visitors stay on site etc. Then you can begin to work out more about what they do.
Content is more likely to be the issue - they don't find it interesting or it doesn't tell them whats in it for them to read further.

Well according to google as of right now I've only received 8 visitors... out of the 200+ impressions only 8 clicks which are likely mostly my own clicks lol. Not worried about content. Worried about people passing over my meta description as you mentioned is what people will see in google search.

My understanding of google search console is that impressions are when you appear on somebody's search. Clicks represents when somebody clicks into your site and position represents on a high average where exactly you ranked on particular keywords. My break is between the impressions and clicks. Meaning people see my page but pass over it. So I assume my meta description is not appealing to those that are reaching my site via keywords...
hope that better describes my situation.

I misunderstood what you were saying.
The other thing it could be is your headline - there is no way of telling without doing some split testing.

Make sure both give a prospective reader a reason to want to click through - the whats in it for them stuff.

Try changing one element and see if that improves things if does great if not change something else.

That sounds logical. It's kind of a fine dance isn't it. Mixing keywords and phrases into an appropriate manner that not only makes sense but entices an audience.
That is my current struggle.

I really appreciate the tip!
I'll try changing my headlines on a couple of reviews that are getting some decent impressions/rankings and see how that affects my ctr ratio.

I hadn't considered the impact of my headline as much as the description so hopefully you are correct.

What do you find works best for you as a headline? Bold and direct like a news headline or friendly and social?
My content is hobby based with aspects of science
So I try to incorporate both pending what keyword/phrase I'm targeting...

Thanks again!

I really appreciate your insight.
