I've been battling depression for over 30 years, so this post definitely resonated with me, Janet.

Although it's not with us 24/7, it has that nasty habit of rearing it's ugly head completely at random when we least expect it and when it does it can knock us flat for days or even weeks.

I've experienced it this past month and as a result have barely got started with Month 2 of the SAC, which finishes on 10th July.

Even when we've been in that place so many times already and we know there are things we can do to distract ourselves from it, the actual doing is far from easy as it requires the motivation and willpower that we are severely lacking at that particular moment in time. Hence it creates a vicious circle.

Often the best way is not to actually try to fight it, as it just gives energy to the problem rather than the solution. It's often better to just surrender to the feelings and let them pass in time, which they do.

I wrote a blog post some time back about 2 excellent self-development books I've read by a lady called Melody Beattie, who has been through it all far worse than most. Here's the link to it. Cheers

Rich :-)

Depression is something some of us are having a constant battle with Janet.

It suddenly hits you like a bombshell and you just have to work through it as best you can.

What brings on depression, is it something outside of the person or is it his thoughts?

well first i must say thanks for your comment
depression can cause from lots of things
(1) one is abuse from home in a relationship (2) two it can also be from losing your job bills to pay and so on
but whatever the case maybe, if we adressed it early we can save a life

Great article. It definitely is a battle, and most don't make it out without medications. It is also a cliche in the Afro community, it's like the problem is pacified rather than acknowledged to get to the root of the problem and find a proper treatment, or resolution.
