Success Vs Health: Which One Matters Most To You?

Hello WA Family,

I hope everyone is doing well,

And I mean really well.

We are all here because of one reason - we all want to build sustainable business and attain success.

That means we need to invest an aweful lot of time doing this and that. Great, no problem. You cannot achieve success by sitting around, right?

oh wait! what?

I don’t know about you but I tend to sit more while working. This in itself is unhealthy.

I do try standing up and stretching every now and then.

Bottom line, there’s a lot of sitting going on!

Sleep Deprivation and Electronic Insomnia

Ideally an adult needs 8 hours of sleep?

Yeah, do you get all that or you find yourself burning through the night trying to meet your deadlines?

I personally have a big problem with electronic insomia. I can begin my evening feeling like all I need is my soft bed.

And then I make the mistkate too often, stare into my phone, you know just to answer a few emails. There goes my sleep...

The next day I struggle to wake up and stay awake

Coffee, get me my coffee!

Caffeinated and red-eyed I push through.

While it’s great to push ourselves for many more hours, skimping on sleep has some nasty consequences. I wouldn’t dare try to mention them all here

  • Irritability
  • Fatigue
  • Headache etc.

With all these, there’s so much real work you can do. And, so the cycle continues, goals unfulfilled, deadlines not reached, anxiety and stress.

I must work harder!

Diet

Ever find yourself oozing with massive amounts of energy, you know that feeling you get, like you can move mountains if they dared you?

You are unstoppable, all you want is clink and clank away at your work. Not even lunch can stop you. You got that 2000 word post to complete!

"No, drinking water can wait..."

"I won't waste time with exercise"

And I won’t even listen to nature’s call….unless of course it’s too loud to ignore!

Now here's is my question to you lovely people

How do you maintain a balance to make sure that you achieve success and stay healthy so that you will live to enjoy your success?

I struggle with that on a daily basis. However, by baby steps I have made some changes and progress.

Continue follow through to get to my goals in that area.

Sitting a computer for as long as I do, I frequently have neck issue from looking down a bit.

I have notice when I get my massage that my right side is higher than my left side.

Now I am not sure if that is because I sleep on right side or what.

But taking care of myself is a must but it is hard. Thank you.

Be Blessed.

Hey Cherry,
Try and balance your sides ok?
I know how hard it can be but we must try.
Health matters more so that we can continue crushing 'em goals!
Thanks for taking your time here
Jane

Your right. Thank you.

Honestly right now, success. I guess because I am still young and haven't felt the distress of bad health yet I can say that. I'm sure if the tables were turned I would say differently. I sit at my computer about 10 hours a day until my eyes and head hurt and sometimes I just put my glasses on and keep pushing until I feel nausea from staring at the screen for too long. But I get up the next morning and do it again. A vicious cycle of business and online college. But I know it will pay off one day so I push myself to my limits.

Thanks for sharing. :)

I hear you, dear Jeanette,
But please try and let yourself rest a little, in any case, I love how our bodies self regulate.
When it wants to shut down, it does!
All the best to you
Jane

Aaww yes i have done everything you have said..not good.
Often i turn the laptop on right before bed just to check on something or to do a little writing...next thing i know it is 2 am.
During the day not as bad..having my pup helps as she knows when i need a break. Lol lol

Hey, Cathy, I can totally relate,
like right now I had promised myself that I will be in bed, away from electronics.
Here I still am!

Great post and I can totally relate. Sleep has become a luxury for me. Most of the time I fall asleep at my desk while working on my page. Site support have been an incredible help. Thanks to them I have been able to make it to my bed. My gosh pillows feel so darn good. Thank you for the share Jane,
Michael

Hey Michael,
LOL! and don't you just hate it when day breaks! I do.
But, we honestly need to modify our sleeping habits.
Thanks for your time
Jane

I only need approx 5 hours sleep, I wake naturally, haven`t used alarm clocks in years.
I discovered that it`s best to have a wind down period after working online. Watch 30 minutes to an hour of something you enjoy. I find comedy he is great relaxer. Either that or read for half an hour or so, just stay away from the computer and phone.
I always keep water beside me or green tea while I work. I stop to eat a healthy meal otherwise I get hungry and eat rubbish.
I like to walk for exercise, fresh air and stretching the muscles.
You do have to be strict with yourself though. But there`s no point getting to the stage of earning mega bucks if you are too unwell to enjoy it.

Great plan Linda!
I too try to keep fit, drink water and eat well.
My only problem is irregular sleeping habits, really bad.
But I plan to change it

Good that you plan on doing something about the sleep issue. If you don`t get enough sleep over a period of time it becomes hard to concentrate, not what you want.

We exercise daily, drink water 💦 and take care of each other.
We have learned this over the 30 years we have been married and had businesses together.

It did not come overnight. We have had years to work on this. Taking care of yourself requires discipline and commitment too.

We all want to enjoy the fruits of our labor in the future.

Best of luck and thanks for your important post!
Colette & Philip

Power couple 🤗
I’m so happy to hear that you’re taking care of yourselves.
Please continue like that!
Best wishes
Jane

Balance is very important, and I have to watch that I don't get too far off to one side or the other. I think a written schedule helps most. Sometimes I have one written and sometimes I just get up and start doing stuff. Scheduling it is better, 'cause then I make sure that everything gets done.

I agree, it helps to have something to work towards.
Thanks Fran

I follow my biorhythms, that I realized many years ago. I am an early riser and need about 5-6 hrs of sleep. Usually, I get very tired at about 2 pm, if I do not eat correctly at lunch. No Carbs or heavy sugar, and the right fruits and protein helps me through the afternoon. Some carbs at dinner, but never after 8 pm. After 8 pm light no carb snack. I know I write the best in the morning hours and retain more while training. The afternoon I can chat and answer emails and comments. Just the consistency in my schedule helps me feel and stay productive.
This may not work for others, but that's mine.

You seem to have a great plan going on! What’s important is to be productive and healthy at the same time. Thanks for your input

Hello Jane, our bodies were designed by nature in a certain way. This means that, yes, in general it needs around 8 hours of sleep a day.
It was also designed to move - that's why we have muscles all over the place. They are there to be used. When they are, the heart works as it's supposed to in order to supply the blood along with the oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and all parts of the body efficiently.

We have to be in tune how our bodies work and how they were designed. Remember it took nature millions of years to design our bodies to work the way they do. Civilization has only existed for a few hundred years - our way of life can't just replace what nature has been doing for eons.

We should respect and work with nature, that way we will have a greater time living on this earth.

Thank you for your thought provoking post!

Jose

Hey Jose,
You have put it so well. Nature was there long before civilization! I couldn't agree more.
There are so many things we can try and control nature but we won't always succeed.
Work with nature!
Thank you for your time

Jane, you have described my life too well at the moment.

As I am trying to get a little extra caffeine in my system, I am trying to remind myself that TODAY, will be the day that I make myself exercise for 30 minutes at least.

Today, I will try to drink 3 glasses of water also.

(Granted, I have made that my goal every day this week. I've gotten in 10 minutes of exercise and a glass and a half of water.)

Best wishes as you work to overcome the bad habits that can be acquired in this business.

Tough lives we live Sondra!
Thank you.
I wish you more balance and success
