I have never really considered recommending online courses as an affiliate... I was always very focused on digital products, Amazon products, as well as subcription services.

But lately I discovered the world of online courses that are available on sites such as Udemy, for example.

I've added the first affiliate link to an old blog of mine around 2 weeks ago, and today I made a first sale from that single post.

After only 50 clicks, it made a first sale - that's an amazing conversion rate! Of course, it's still too early to draw definite conclusions and I'm excited to see how the conversion rate develops in the future.

Unfortunately, that blog doesn't get as much traffic anymore, and not all traffic even goes to that particular blog post. I'm tempted to go back and write more content now haha! But remember what Kyle said many times in his videos: Don't spread yourself thin, stick to one blog and go deep.

So I have to stay disciplined and continue working on my newest blog. (Can I stay strong and resist switching boats - I'm not gonna lie, it's tough!) But once traffic increases, and sales start happening on the new blog, I'll be sure to go back to that old blog and add more content for online courses - if everything goes perfectly well, hopefully by the beginning of next year.

Thank you for reading - and keep up the great work everyone!

EDIT:

Particularly for Udemy online courses, if you are using the Rakuten Linkshare program, check out my post here about when they suddenly de-activated my account recently:

I highly suggest using the Affiliate Programs page here on WA. Kyle and the team put a lot of effort into this to prevent such unnecessary complications. Check the comments on the link above, they were very helpful in my situation!

Well done!

Thanks Fleeky!

I love Udemy courses and I've actually been an affiliate before and sold several of them via social media. Unfortunately, one-day Udemy just canceled my affiliate account and I couldn't get approved again through Rakuten. I never got a good answer to my questions. They said I had not been an affiliate but I got paid several commissions from them.

What!! :O Shirley, I'm sorry to hear that. Thank you for informing me, so I won't bank on Udemy too much then. They don't seem to be very reliable, I've also had problems (see the EDIT part in my post above).

Have you tried signing up for Udemy again using the Affiliate Programs section here on WA? That's what I did and I got into their program.

Thank you for your comment Shirley, and let me know if you were able to re-join them.

This is interesting. I left a comment on a post somebody did on Udemy just yesterday via Site Comments, and I thought that it looked like a good affiliate programme to get into later on down the line as I branch out.
It may be better to join their affiliate programme via WA, as you say James, then by going directly to them.
Thanks for a very useful heads up, which I'll certainly try to remember nearer the time.
Well done on your sale, James - here's to many more.
Onwards and upwards!
Cheers
Rich :-)

I'm trying to rejoin via Awin today, we will see.

Rich, when Rakuten de-activated my account for no valid reason, and completely out of the blue, I was shook. And for the longest time, I thought Udemy was only available through Rakuten. Luckily, Kyle & Carson have set up the Affilaite Programs network here in WA, and now we have an alternative that we can trust. If it is available via WA, I highly suggest joining here. It's a mystery to me why Udemy wouldn't put more effort into their affiliate program. Maybe they're so well off, they don't need us :D

Yes, use Awin Shirley! And I've learned that there are also other platforms for online courses, for example SkillShare. I signed up for their affiliate programs, as well.

Hi James,
Great post and great potential in this area!
