Leaving My Comfort Zone! (I Started A YouTube Channel)
Okay so I did the jump and started a YouTube channel.
This is way out of my comfort zone, I have never seen myself as someone talking to people on camera. (I don't even Skype using the camera if I can avoid it!)
Anyways, the point is: I did it. As you can imagine, I have mixed feelings about it:
- On the one hand, I'm so far outside of my comfort zone that it feels like a huge mistake!
- On the other hand, I realize that I need to do this to grow on a personal level.
And that's really the reason why I've done it!
For many people, starting a blog is also way outside their comfort zone. But I've been creating websites, blogs, and have programmed applications for so many years now... even though it still gets me super excited, I'm not outside of my comfort zone anymore.
I read about how important it is to constantly push yourself, to keep growing on a personal level.
So I thought about it: What scares me the most? Being on camera, for anyone to see, that scares the heck out of me!
Here I am now, talking into a camera, feeling very awkard haha!
I've watched and read tutorials of course, and they all said that the first 10+ videos are usually very bad. And there's no way around that, we all go through this process.
When I think about blogging, it's exactly the same thing!
The first few blog posts are usually very bad. And never once have I judged someone badly for starting a blog for the first time, and not having perfect articles. I am actually always inspired when I see other people go through that process!
So that's how I see myself now: Going through a new process :) I told myself I will do 30 videos this year, and then review if I should continue.
Whatever you are doing right now to grow your affiliate marketing business, don't be afraid to go outside your comfort zone! If an introvered programmer can talk on camera... then you can do anything :D
Thank you for reading, and keep up the great work!
EDIT 1:
David @dave07 left a super helpful comment below. I want to embed it here for everyone to see:
"I think at the start you also try to make it perfect which puts you under extra pressure.
We need to remember it just needs to be good enough - not Hollywood quality ๐"
And the more I think about what he said, the more it makes sense to me: People don't come on YouTube to watch a "movie" - that's why we have Netflix etc. On YouTube, we want to see something personal and homemade. I need to keep this in mind going forward.

Well done on making the video.
Iโm just starting to make videos myself and itโs a steep learning curve but I think it will be worth it.
Videos are so hard!! I think they are so difficult because we have no choice but to expose our personality. Something internally needs to shift before it looks better on camera. Does it feel the same for you?
I think it feels unnatural at this stage because we are both not used to doing it. Hopefully after we have a few done it will seem less daunting and we will come across more naturally.

"It just needs to be good enough - not Hollywood quality" I love that! That hit the spot for me, thank you David! I've added your comment to the blog post above, I think everyone should hear it (check EDIT 1).

That's why WA is such an amazing platform :D If you want, send me the link to your YT channel!
I agree about WA being an amazing platform - I'm always amazed at how quickly I get help when needed.

David, I love the "Rookie Entrepreneur" intro, super cool! You've got yourself a new subscriber :D
Eventually I will get to that point too. Makes it easier to contemplate as its true what you said about the blogging. When I started that was way out of my comfort zone too, now I love it.
Congratulations on taking the scary step forward James.
