I've read about this plugin and it came highly recommended, so I obviously downloaded it to be able to control which of my links will do have a DoFollow, or a NoFollow accordin

If my memory serves me right Klye dealt with that issue in a Boot amp video on creating a hidden landing page.may have been in phase 5

Ah, I see. Thank you! Unfortunately, I haven't started Boot Camp yet, but I'll have a look and see what I'll find.

Thanks again :)

James

Good question. I have never used this type of plugin but will be interested in the responses from others.

Using DoFollow and NoFollow attributes helps with your SEO. I've just started using this option, but SEO gurus give it a great deal of importance with regards to the flow of "Link Juice", or Page Rank.

I will look into it. Thanks.

No problem, Steven.

Does anybody know if there is an option, in WordPress, where I can let somebody access my site's dashboard, but hasn't full access to it?

Like if I wish to ask a friend

You can add that person as a user. All the best.

Thank you, Elores. The problem is how much access will this 'user' have over my site.

I am not sure because they might do more than what you really want them to do. I don't know how to can put a limit on that.

I'll have to try some things out first before I appoint a person into my site. Thank you for your feedback.

They can come on as a user! With limitations.

Thanks, Luisa, but as I told Elores, I issue I have is how much access will an appointed 'user' have over my site.

I let someone have access to my site. You just need to add them and the level of access you want them to have...

Oh, J answered you already :)

Cheers, Steven.

Did you limit the person you added to have access to only certain functions?

Yes! They only have access as a writer/proofreader/editor on the wordpress comtent editor. The cannot access the backend of the site ex: plugins, appearance, etc.

I just added new user and it prompted me through there access limitations.

Hope this is helpful.

Steve

Hi, Steve...yes, that is indeed very helpful. I'll go for your advice when the time is ripe.

Many thanks, once more.

James

Your're quite welcome James,

I'm glad with what little experience I have thatI can of help.

Talk soon,

Steve

That's great...I appreciate that :)

James

According to the Wordpress Codex ( https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities ) the editor is the lowest access level with moderation rights to comments.

But the editor also has full access to posts and pages.

I see...so in other words, all my work will be accessible to this editor.

I'll have to re-think this a bit more before I make my decision, in view of the information you've just given me.

Thank you so much for your help :)

James

Look like you have this covered.
Have a great Sunday.
Steve

Yes, and no at the same time.

I copy that.
Steve

I'll try what was suggested here, and see what happens, Steve. Thank you for helping out :)

I would also like to know, because it is time to delegate! :)

What would you like to delegate Nick?
:)

You can try what suggested by Jorn below. I am not sure if can grant him partial access as I believe handling comments is only accessible to administrator and administrator can access to everything on the site.

I will to search if there is plugin can handle that.

:)
Joe

There are several plugins available when googling for 'wp user role editor'.
Some of them seem to be able to go quite deep into limiting access.

Thanks Jorn.
Kindly, can you name some of them here?
Appreciate it.

:)
Joe

I think one of them is simply called User Role Editor :)

Thanks, Joe. I guess I'll have to experiment a bit with this to see if I can find a happy medium along with way.

I wouldn't wish to have another person, although trusted, to be free to roam all over my site. That would make me feel somewhat uneasy, to say the least.

Thank you once more for your great feedback :)

James

That sounds quite interesting. I'll have a look at what plugins I can lay my hands on, particularly those which limit access.

Thank you...

You can go to add a new user in your wp admin section and add a user with editor or author rights.
There is training available somewhere in WA on how to do that.

I am not sure if that access will limit him to the comments only, but without administrator access, he can't mess up too much.

That's great. I'll see if I can find this training in WA. Yes, I don't wish this person to have administrator access, as I don't want the site to be messed about with.

Thanks for your help :)

James

That's also what I'm thinking.

I'm not sure myself, but I might can point you in the right direction.

When you log in to your back office, you will see an option for users. Click that and you'll see an option to create a new user.

From here, it might be a contributor? or an editor? But then you would put their name and email address, and maybe some other information. Create it.

Then, when you go back to your site manager, it would show the new user you created. You would have to synchronize the password for it to show, then personally give the person who you want to give access to that role, that password.

I'm not a 100% sure, but I think that's how it works.

I'm hope I'll have this same problem later on down the road. At least, I hope to grow into a well-developed website, enough to need someone to watch after my comments!! HAHA.

Hope this helps.

OH, and they should get an e-mail. It will send them an e-mail to the address you used to create their profile, giving the access to the back office, but of course will require them to login with that password it shows at your WA site manager.

From here, it will give them access to limited options in the back office of your website.

Thank you for all this information, Brandon. I'll have to take this slowly, as I don't wish to have my site totally 'exposed' to third parties, even though the person I have in mind is a trusted one.

I'll go through the suggestions you put down here, and see where that leads me.

Many thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

I was exploring my website to see if my SEO is as optimized as my knowledge can get it, and I found that I don't have a robots.txt file, but I can create one.

Question:

Every website needs it to function properly. There are advanced users that tweak it.

This file is something which I've never had any encounter with, and it's only because I have an issue with duplicate content that I'm going to have it activated.

Thank you very much for your input...

James

YES

The all in one seo provides one.

For mysterious ghosty reasons it jeoparsizes
on most of my sites.
With the help of site support, all fixed

Yes, AIO does, but I'm not using that, I'm using another plugin, called Yoast. Bo says it has the same features, but I can't find them yet.

I'm glad Support have managed to fix your problems.

Yes yoast is excellent.

I like to work with the wpmudev plugins and themes.
Up to date, made by wordpress people for wordpress... and... i noticed they go well With wa.... no conflicts,so far, if not blocked... good team... hope wa wIll pick it up

Good question James!
I was wondering myself about this as I heard Bo talk about it in the latest training.
I'll have a look at the interesting links you have received from David and Cindy.
:-)

Thanks, Pernilla. I'm afraid I am a bit stuck on this issue, so far anyway, as I'm not using the AOI SEO plugin, but Yoast, and the information I'm looking for seems to be eluding me.

My problem is with my website, where a page is linking back to itself, creating double content. I have no idea how this happened, but SEMrush spotted this as a critical error and I would like to have this problem sorted out before I move on.

Yes, David and Cindy have been very helpful with all the links and the information forwarded. I hope I can sort this out quickly.

Many thanks for your involvement,Pernilla.

:-)

If I were you I would ask a question again, and explain just like you did to me now.

Or perhaps send a PM directly to leoemery or alanhocking asking them what to do.

Hope you‘ll soon find a solution.
:-)

I'm still stuck, but it's partly my fault as I was working on something different. I'll try again as I don't wish to bother anyone if I can manage to find a solution to this problem myself, but otherwise, I'll take your advice, Pernilla...thank you.

Good to have you around James!

Sometimes it is good to step back from a problem and a bit later, without expecting it, the solution is right before your eyes.

I'm still working on the theme change, but I have solved a lot of problems and I'm moving onwards. Look forward to the moment it is finished so I can go on and catch up with all thee "GoGetter" tasks I have not yet done

Wish you a fantastic new week!
:-)

Yes, I did actually find that timing-out over a problem, and then tackling it at a later date does really work wonders. I then tend to approach a difficult situation from a difficult angle which helps with its elimination.

I hope you manage to solve your new theme issues soon so you'll get back on track with Bo's training.

Wishing you a fantastic new week too, Pernilla.

While analyzing my site, I found a backlink which has absolutely nothing to do with my site, and I don't wish it there any more.

Is there a way how to remove this 'unwan

Hi James,

Did you resolve this backlink issue? I have some backlinks to my site that I would like to get rid of. Someone here at WA has linked to my site a lot. It's not from comments either. Just curious how this ended up for you.

Hi there.

I had contacted the webmaster and asked him to have these unwanted backlinks to my site removed. After a few days, they were gone.

Hello James!
Hope you have been able to solve this issue.
Strange, with this "unwanted guest".
:-o

Hi, Pernilla. I think it's still there but can't be sure since I haven't checked within these last couple of hours. It would have been great had Wikipedia backlinked on to my site instead.

How are you doing?

James

I‘m fine, thank you.
Working like crazy on the new theme!! It just has to work. Can’t think about anything else for the moment.

Yes, Wikipedia linked to your site, that would be the greatest thing!!

See you soon again!
:-)

I'm fine too if it wasn't for my brain melting LOL...

You take it easy...if possible.

See you soon, and take care :)

James

That was my thought, do you host at WA. I would try to contact your hosting. I have had a lot of assistance from my hosting in various issues. Good luck - wow, I would not have thought someone would do that.

Yes, my sites are hosted here and this is the first time I've actually encountered something like this. I'm still waiting for the 'intruding' site's Webmaster to answer my email from yesterday. No luck yet.

My next port of call would be to contact Support and see if they can help me out.

As an alternative, should Support not be able to help, I can always inform Google to bypass this link if the worst comes to the worst. So far, it doesn't look like I've got any trouble, but it's very uncomfortable having this sort of thing happen.

Is the backlink on your website? Is it in your comment area perhaps?

Hi, Loes...it's not a comment no. While checking out the stats on my site, I found this backlink from a very dubious site...

Attached to a plugin or script?

I don't know. How will I know which is which? I have a feeling it's a script, but I can't be sure. I've contacted the Webmaster and asked him to remove it. From what I can understand, a Webmaster might not even answer my email, let alone bother to remove the backlink.

Would support be able to locatie it?

I haven't attempted to contact support yet. Let me PM you...

This one explains pretty well

https://blog.monitorbacklinks.com/seo/identify-remove-backlinks-hurt-rankings/

Some hosting compnies have seo extra that removes...

Thanks for the link. I'll have a look and see if it does what I wish doing...

I've contacted the site's Webmaster, and asked for this backlink to be removed from my site.

If that doesn't work, then I will have to disavow it.

Many thanks for your help :)
