Where do you host your ebooks?

Ok , I hate asking questions on the blog area but I cant find the best answer to this question.

I want my sign up readers (subscribers) to be able to download my ebook/s but I don't actually know the best place for them to fetch them from. At the start I sent them a copy directly... but, there are too many coming in to do this anymore.

I know amazon hosts ebooks. But is this the best place to put them if you want to make them a free item to download for your subscribers?

And what about if you want to to sell the ebook ? where is the best place to have it 'hosted' so it can be accessed by your customers?

Is there anywhere on WA that this can be done? for example where we store our photos and videos on WA (MEDIA) is it possible to have a location for ebooks to be stored where they can be downloaded ?

I am working on some ebooks at the moment but Im not sure of the logistics of how to market them.

I know so of our clever WA members do this already (because I have downloaded your ebooks :-) ).

Thanks in anticipation.

James

Hi James, I would just host my ebooks on my site here at WA if they are connected to my website here. What I would do is FTP into my WA site, create a separate folder "ebooks" in the httpdocs folder , and then upload the ebooks into that folder. Then you could make a page in your WA website listing all your ebooks with a link to each. For instance a link would look like this: htttp://www.whatyourdomainis.com/ebooks/nameofebook.pdf
When the subscriber clicks on it the ebook comes up and they can either read it right there or download it to their computer. If you didn't want all the ebooks on one page then you could make individual pages or send the link to them in an email.
Thanks
Joe

Thanks Joe, nice suggestion. Ill be checking this out.

If anyone is considering Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing platform, make sure you read and fully understand their publisher terms. I can't post the link here because it has a question mark in the URL, but here's one bit of it.

"When you enroll a book in KDP Select, you're committing to making the digital format of that book available exclusively through KDP while it's enrolled in the program. All content enrolled in KDP Select must remain for sale through the Kindle Store only. If the digital version of your book appears to be available for pre-order, for sale, or for free elsewhere (such as on your website or blog, or a third party’s website), then it is not eligible for KDP Select."

Yep I have read the terms and conditions of this and is one of the reasons I am looking around for other options. I seem to just be getting directed to the KDP area when ever I enquire about ebooks on amazon.

Hi James, I understand that when somebody fills in the information on your opt-in page you whant to send a free ebook. This is done through your autoresponder such as Awber. Irv.

I have done 3 iBooks /which you are not allowed to call so) for Apple iBooks store. I chose that, because I could insert videos which was not possible on Amazon, maybe still is not.

The publishing process was a roller coaster, I really don't know if I will do it again - although the third time I already knew better what to do and what not to do.

Thank s Heidi. I use a Macbook for my website work but i hd not thought of using ibooks .. worth a look as well. I can imagine, like most things Apple, it will be complicated.

It looks easy at first and it is fun to create the book, but there are so many things they don't tell you beforehand and which you have to re-do, and this means to do the publication process from scratch. DO KEEP all your screenshots, descriptions and other info by screenshot or document, because they all disappear when you redo the upload.....
You can ask me when you have questions!

I don't have a lot of experience. but I have found that Amazon makes this the easiest. I am not great with the technical end of things so using them allowed for easy sign up and distribution.

I am in exactly the same situation James and was about to ask the question. I like the Google solution suggested by Kev and will be seriously looking at that.
Best wishes
Terry

I have been trying Kev's Google Drive idea a go this afternoon. But my internet speeds are so slow I can't get the file transferred .. will keep trying.
I'm also checking Amazon out again as well. I think it might be the the best for ebook sales.

Hi James, I host them on my Google drive. Google love Google so to improve ranking I do everything I can with them.
Hope this helps
Cheers Kev

Ok .. I hadn't thought of that one... Ill be looking into that one. thanks

It's very easy and free (to a limit)
Yoy are welcome James
Cheers Kev

Maybe this can help you.

You could put them in media, but you will quickly run out of bandwidth. I recommend Amazon hosting for ebooks.

If you want to give your book to subscribers this can be done with an autoresponder like mailchimp or aweber, or even SumoMe.

Thanks Barry .. I use MailChimp at the moment but not the paid version ... might have a look at this option. cheers
