Last Update: May 26, 2019

Hi Everyone

Just received this email from Canva with regards to changing my password with them.

I want to let those that are not aware of why I was asked to change my password with Canva.

I am sharing this to make you aware of the challenges that Canva is having and that they are dealing with the situation.

Have You receved an email like this?

I am sure that they have this uncontrol but it is our own best interest to change our passwords immediately and to change it regularly.

Jennifer

PS: I have noticed a lot of concerns with regards to changing passwords through the links within the email from Canva.

I would recommend going to Canva and there you will see the notice about the breech and how to change your password.

I haven't recieved an email from Canva... but just a heads up to he careful with any emails like this.

The concern is that they are providing you a 'link' to change your password. What they should be telling you is to open a new browser and log into your account on your own, then change your password.

Phishing scams send out emails like this (I'm not saying this is one) whether it's from supposedly from Apple, Fed Ex, PayPal, your bank or wherever and claim their is a problem with your account (or a shipment)... or they may say something like your payment went through when in fact you didn't buy anything.

Then they put a link in the email to check your account, report problems, update your login information or whatever... but that link takes you to a site that looks identical to the real one (but it's not) and when you think you're logging into your account you're really just giving them your login credentials and other information.

Again... I'm not saying that's the case here, it's just bad practice for them to include the login link in their email rather than just saying to go to your account and change your password.

Thanks for the heads up this though, I'll make sure to change my password as well 😊

Good point Jay. Both my bank and Pay Pal have sent me the same alert about never clicking in to your account from a provided link in an email.

Phishing scammers are getting more creative every day.

I understand your concerns and thank you for your comment much appreciated.

I get those emails also and report them back to Paypal and or my Bank for them to deal with it.

But this notice was also displayed in Canva Home Page.

Thank you for your comment and feedback much appreciated.

I get your concerns about emails and links but this is a real situation which was also displayed on Canva's home page.

I would always double check and make sure that it is a real threat before posting here at Wealthy Affiliate.

I wished I screen shot Canva's home page it may have helped.

Have a great day

I just went directly to Canava's site.

There is a notice on the home page. There was a security breach that affects people that use their email to log onto site. They also have a copy of the note your received on their web page.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I am glad that you can confirm this information. I still think that it is good practice to change your password anyway.

Yes, I received an email too but I tend to be rather cautious when someone asks me to change a password and I haven't had time to check that the email is genuine. I am afraid that it may be the hackers sending out the email. Though why they would hack Canva I have no idea.
Reply

Yes I was too, but there is a notice on their website as well.

Hi Jennifer.

Please be careful. The link you posted is not secure (it is http not https). This is a **red flag!**

Do not click any link which isn't https and even when it is, still exercise extreme caution.

1. Copy links into a browser in which you have disabled Javascript. I recommend, Brave.
2. Paste the link into the browser's address bar and press Enter.
3. Click on the padlock next to the protocol—https—and make sure you see "Certificate (valid)"

Even when all these check are passed, I would still do some research before using your **ORIGINAL** link (where you first registered) to change your password.

Always treat the Internet and emails like con artists trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Good luck.

Thank you Tayo, for bringing up the difference between http and https. Very important indeed.

You have a valid point there Tayo, it might just be someone phishing for emails and passwords. I did not get the email and I haven't heard anything from Canva. I would treat it as a very suspicious email...

.
That's okay too. But it could be someone trying to take advantage of the breach. If not, sending non-secure links, it is apparent why Canva was hacked. lololol

I have seen this happen too, Tayo. There is an actual breach that is real and then a follow up by the 'dark side' that takes advantage of it.

I have been a victim of it in the Crypto Currency World.

Play safe out there.

Kindest regards,
Paul.

This stuff is everywhere.

I think it is a good idea to use the same password for everything just so I remember how to get into each different account 😆

Then this stuff happens and I am like,
Okay so maybe its not a good 💡 and that is when I decide to keep a log with the separate passwords saved just incase I forget.

Changing password now
Thank you Jennifer

There's big scams going around at the minute, be warry of emails that seem trusty and look like that, they may give u a link to sort your password but will usually bring you to a static page that looks legit so they can access your emails and passwords by watching u enter them, be very cautious online especially with the newer hackers on the rise

in this case, I think it is a legit warning from Canva - there is a note about it when you go to their site as well.
Reply

Yea no I don't doubt it bró, but I once got an email from my bank, I thought It was legit, all looked proper n all, except my user I'd was wrong and if I didn't spot that I would've been hacked n robbed, I'm just putting the warning out there tho. Gotta be cautious.

You are definitely right about that - in these situations, you cannot be too careful. I try to avoid clicking any links in emails like that even if they look legit.
