Day 8 - Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017
Hey there and a Big Welcome to Day 8 of Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017 – we’re ramping it up with content!
Just so you know, it’s Sunday here in New Zealand and it’s a gorgeously sunny day, today’s post will be short and sweet as it’s also Mother’s Day...
I’m not catching up with my beautiful girls until this afternoon so I have this morning to write a post here and do a bit of work on my website – Woohoo!
I did promise right at the beginning of this venture that I would post every day and I want to keep this momentum going until we get that first commission – Weekends or Not!
NOTE:
In order to see any of the previous day’s posts – check out My Posts blog roll on the bottom right hand side.
We completed Jays 4 Part Video Live Case Study yesterday which was pretty exciting and …
Here’s a recap on what I did yesterday – Day 7:
- Went through step by step on embedding a YouTube video on Home page
- Used embedresponsively dot com to make sure the video is responsive
- Created and posted my first blog post on my website
TODAY:
So, as said above I created and posted my first blog post on my website and today I want to take you through the process I go through in order to do that.
Also, I was searching through Jay’s other training and found this one on doing the SEO on an article which fits in perfectly with my post today:
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/lets-seo-an-article-live/play
As previously mentioned in my other posts, if you’re not a Wealthy Affiliate Premium member, you won’t be able to access Jays training unless you sign up as a Premium member here at WA, it’s $19 for the first month and $49 per month thereafter.
I’ve been in WA Premium for about 5 months and I’ve found the extra training to be invaluable to my online business. I’ve been on other training platforms before but I’ve found with WA, all the training I need is in one place, just search and you’ll find the information you need – my kinda training platform!
With that being said let’s get into the training…
Step 1: Coming up with Keyword Concepts
According to Jay when your blog is somewhat established on the internet and in Google's search engine you don’t have to rely on keyword research as much…
BUT…
Since that’s not the case with our brand new website, keyword research is a must.
Actually I really enjoy the process of doing keyword research so I think for every one of my blog posts I will most probably keep up with that.
We’re not going to cover the details of keyword research, as such in this post, as there’s a ton of training here on WA where you can access that.
What we will be covering is keyword concepts, so we already have our keyword and we know what sort of traffic it gets, how much competition there is etc,. and it’s now all about:
- How to get your keyword in Google
- How to get your keyword ranked
- What other keywords you can rank for inside of your content – as outlined below
So Jay wants to rank for “alternatives to amazon affiliate program” and when he typed that directly into Google’s search bar, including the quotation marks at each end, he come up with 4 results (he created this training about 3 months ago). Today I did the same and come up with 9 results, so what does this mean?
This means that Jay has 9 other posts that are in competition for that long tailed keyword, but in writing his post he wants to be able to rank for that particular keyword as well as other related keywords as a result of the content in his post.
As we follow through you will see how this comes into play.
Step 2: Writing & Formatting the Content
Whenever I’m writing content I usually use Notepad or Microsoft Word, Jay uses Google Doc, it’s just a matter of preference, AND I’m not familiar with Google Docs – hmmm maybe I ought to look into that!
So, when I’m writing I set everything out as I would want to see it in WordPress, I do this whole process first before even going to my Dashboard. So I’ve already:
- Written my content
- Indicated what my H1, H2 etc., Tags will be - The Heading Tags
- Created my screenshots and have them available in a specific folder
- Indicated where my screenshots will be placed
- Downloaded any images and have them available in a specific folder
- Indicated where my images will be placed
- Have my affiliate links ready whether they be as a text link, an image link or both
I have specific folders for each of my websites and inside of that folder I have different folders for content that’s already on my website, content that I’m in the middle of writing and another folder for all of my graphics – this just helps to keep everything organized and easy to find!
*** I would highly recommend creating a way to organize all of your content, it’s certainly helped me in the past.
Wow, I just realized what the time is…
It’s getting pretty close to the time that my girls are going to turn up so we can spend time together for Mother’s Day - I’m going to have to leave this here for today!
Tomorrow we’ll be on Day 9 of Learn how to build a website yourself in WordPress in 2017 where we will carry on from where we left off today!
Thanks so much for coming along, and again, you’re most welcome to leave a comment or ask a question below if you wish to do so, thanks and …
Cheers,
Jacqueline
